One way that you can classify quadrilaterals is by the position
of their sides, side length, and angle measure.
Slide 5
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral where opposite sides are
parallel (hence, the name) and congruent. This is a more general
term for a quadrilateral. PARALLELOGRAM
Slide 6
The following shapes are all specifically named
parallelograms.
Slide 7
A rhombus is a quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides. A rhombus
is a type of parallelogram. PARALLELOGRAM RHOMBUS Notice the
similarities between the parallelogram and the rhombus. Although a
parallelogram may look very similar to a rhombus, remember the key
to being a rhombus is the congruent sides.
Slide 8
A rectangle is another type of parallelogram. A rectangle is a
parallelogram that also incorporates 4 right angles. PARALLELOGRAM
Although the rectangle shown may not look much like the
parallelogram, a rectangle is still a parallelogram. Remember that
a parallelogram only has to have opposite parallel and congruent
sides. A rectangle fits that description, so hence, it is a
parallelogram. RECTANGLE
Slide 9
A square is a very special quadrilateral, since it incorporates
the features of a parallelogram, rhombus, and rectangle all in one
little shape. Notice the similarities between the shapes.

Slide 10
Is a square really a quadrilateral, parallelogram, rhombus, and
a rectangle? Lets find out!
Slide 11
A quadrilateral is a polygon with 4 sides. Does a Square fit
that description? Yes, a square fits that description! SQUARE A
square is a polygon And it has 4 sides
Slide 12
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral where opposite sides are
parallel and congruent. Does a Square fit that description? Yes, a
square fits that description perfectly. SQUARE These two opposite
sides are parallel and congruent... And so are these two
sides!
Slide 13
A rhombus is a quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides. A rhombus
is a type of parallelogram. Does a Square fit that description?
Yes, a square fits that description perfectly also. SQUARE We
already know that a square is a parallelogram. And all the sides
are congruent
Slide 14
A rectangle is a parallelogram that incorporates 4 right
angles. Does a Square fit that description? Yes, a square fits that
description perfectly also. SQUARE We already know that a square is
a parallelogram. And all the angles are right angles (90)
Slide 15
As we just saw, a square is indeed a Quadrilateral
Parallelogram Rhombus and Rectangle ALL IN ONE!
Slide 16
But there are quadrilaterals that arent parallelograms. Next,
well look at those
Slide 17
A trapezoid is a quadrilateral that has ONLY 1 pair of parallel
sides. Unlike the other quadrilaterals, a trapezoid isnt a
parallelogram. Its just a trapezoid and, of course, a
quadrilateral. TRAPEZOID
Slide 18
A trapezium is quadrilateral with no pairs of parallel sides. A
