2016 HOMECOMING COMPETITION General Rules
ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL. This includes bringing or using alcohol at an event or attending an
event under the influence of alcohol. This rule also applies to any other intoxicant. Intoxicants will not
be tolerated at any Homecoming events and activities including practices, rehearsals, and preparations
for any Homecoming related activities. Any member of your group violating this rule during
Homecoming events and activities will cause your entire group to be disqualified from all Homecoming
competitions. All groups must adhere to the Joint Interfraternity/Panhellenic Council event responsibility
policy. Failure to comply may result in disqualification and judicial review by the Office of Fraternity and
Sorority Life.
In all competitions, the decision of the judges is final. Questions or concerns regarding the Homecoming competition should be addressed to the Alumni Association. Questions regarding the
event responsibility policy should be directed to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
The Homecoming Committee reserves the right to deduct points from a pairing/organization’s event
score for any reason it deems necessary. Reasons for point deductions include, but are not limited to:
false expense reports, failure to follow rules, and failure to turn in required documents. In most cases,
the committee will deduct five points from an event total, but that remains at the discretion of the
committee.
o For example: If the Homecoming Committee determined an aspect of your float was excluded from the
expense report. Your pairing may have placed third with a score of 88, but the five point deduction
would make your float score 83. The fifth place group finished with a score of 84. Your pairing would
still receive participation points, but your group would have lost its placing and the points for placing.
Please help control misunderstandings and rumors during the week; if you have questions or need clarification on any part of the competition please the Alumni Association

K-STATE STUDENT AMBASSADORS Two K-State Student Ambassadors represent the student body at Alumni Association events throughout the
state and at University activities. Ambassadors are elected by the student body at Homecoming each year and
serve until new Ambassadors are elected.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The K-State Student Ambassadors' duties include the following:
Visit with prospective students and alumni at Alumni Association events throughout the state of Kansas.
The ambassador should be prepared to give a short presentation about current student life at K-State at
any time during their tenure. Ambassadors are encouraged to work together to compile a short outline
that either Ambassador can use individually or that they can use for a presentation together.
Attending Student Alumni Board and Homecoming Committee meetings and activities.
Alumni Association programming on campus – i.e. reunions, Alumni Fellows, and other special events.
Assist the President's Office as needed.
EVENT EXPENSES: All expenses associated with Alumni Association activities will be covered for the ambassadors, including
transportation to off campus events. Ambassadors are responsible for travel expenses if they choose to travel
separately to events.
EVENT ATTENDANCE: The Alumni Association shall act as the clearinghouse when requests for appearances are made specifically
to the Ambassadors, with the exception of the President's Office. This is strictly to protect the
Ambassadors from requests that they may be unable to fulfill. All requests should be directed to the adviser.
Many events are scheduled during the summer months and Ambassadors are required to be present for
these events. The Ambassadors should feel free to turn down any events requesting their attendance if
there are conflicts because of academic reasons, upon consulting the adviser.
The Ambassadors will meet periodically with the adviser to coordinate their events calendar. Because the events the Ambassadors will attend vary in location and purpose, the adviser will give guidance on dress.
The Ambassadors are expected to be punctual for all event departures and/or listed event times.
SELECTION PROCESS: The Student Ambassador selection process consists of the following and will be gradually reduced following
each step of the process:
Application review (see pg. 12)
Interview with a student panel
Interview with a faculty/staff panel, where each candidate is asked to give a 2-4 minute presentation on
the Homecoming theme “Growing Up Purple”
Voting by the student body during Homecoming week
