Dual rush prepares chapter for semest
Te conclusion o all andwinter quarters marks thecompletion o our chapter’sgoal to successully completea dual rushinitiating one
pledge class in Novemberand another in March.Tis project was put intoaction due to the large sizeo recent pledge classes andthe upcoming switch tosemesters.
Our chapter initiatedapproximately 100 newbrothers all quarter and willactivate another 100 at theend o winter quarter.
Carly Wiita, a sophomore atOhio University who pledgedWinter 2009, expressedconcern about the amount o people pledging, but believed
that the dual rush conceptwas a necessary step or ourchapter.“I think it’s helpul to startthe dual rush this year so thatwhen we get to semesters,we’ll know how to handle it,”she said.
Junior Emily Zarack alsodiscussed her opinions onthe matter.
“Dual rush isn’t necessarily
a bad thing, but we dona lot o time to get toour brothers, let alonespecically, when we two pledge classes ba

THURSDAYAPhiO brother Jill Carlson presented a “How tobe a Sustainable Bro” workshop. I kept taking on leadership positions withRelay or Lie and Membership. I also knewa lot about the organization and how itunctioned. I saw a need or change andI wanted to make them. I love taking onleadership positions in this organization soit was just the next step.”What was your biggest challenge as
President?
“Implementing the risk managementpolicy has denitely been the most dicultthing so ar. It’s something other chaptersand organizations have and have to do.We never had a solid policy, and our
organization is so large that I ound itnecessary to have one. Dealing with others’opinions and dislikes o the policy was alsovery hard. “
What was your favorite thing about being
President? “I would say being able to implement
change and being able to take an objectivelook on the chapter as a whole has beenreally great. I like being able to see whatwe need to do and being the one to x it.Getting to know everyone in the chapterhas been really great too. As president youhave more exposure to everyone in thechapter rather than just a committee.”What do you want APhiO to remember you
for? “I just want to be remembered as a president
who was involved and available and willingto help people. We’ve had presidents in thepast that didn’t really ulll the shoes thatthey needed to ll. I want people to see thatI did ever ything I could or our chapter.”

When one considers the three tenants o Alpha PhiOmega – leadership, riendship, and service- who are therst brothers that come to mind? For me, one o thesebrothers is exiting senior Jayna Pappas. As a co-ellowshipchair, Janya is an extraordinary brother. Jayna was amember o the Winter 2009 pledge class.
Jayna’s avorite service moment was helping ACOmembers make a sympathy card or another ACO
member whose amily member had passed away.“It was touching how they were so compassionate,”
Jayna remembers. oJayna, being a leadermeans being able to guideher brothers in positive
ways toward common goals. Her advice to new pledges isto step up and take a leadership position in the raternity because it can make you eel empowered.
For rising seniors, her advice is to make a ootprint withinAPhiO. Being an active brother is important, trying to turnsomething into a legacy will really help you to make yourmark. Jayna will graduate with a degree in English witha communications minor. Afer graduation, she is hoping
to work at a summer camp in New HampshirSpain to teach. Jayna says that she will missto work withall the greatp e o p l ea r o u n dAthens and,o course, my brothers!”
One o Jayna’s littles,C h e l s e a
Wylie, said,“Jayna hasbeen oneo the bestparts o my exp er ien cein APhiO.I eel like Ican trust her with anything and she is so muaround!”
“Jayna has been oneof the best parts of
my experience inAPhiO.”
