AROUND THE CHAIN OF HONOR
CHAMPIONS ON THE FIELD ... AND THE SIDELINES?When it comes to sports, some say to leave it to the professionals, but many Sig Taus around the country don’t buy that. It’s the lacing up of the worn-out shoes or cleats they’ve had since age 14 or the squeak of the gym floors of a student recreation center. It’s the games that come down to the last second, the coaches sporting pin-attire on the court, the rowdy fans, and the championship shirts that make the whole season worth it. No, it’s not just intramurals to Sig Tau – it’s a way of life.
The Epsilon Rho Chapter at Salisbury takes athletics to the next level with play-by-play sideline reporters who have designated themselves “The Ocho,” in reference to the obscure fictional sports network in the movie Dodgeball. But there is nothing fictional about the dedication of the Epsilon Rho men at Salisbury, Tre Dukes, Luciano Giorgilli, and Harrison Wolfe.
Salisbury Sig Taus are no strangers to success, with an ample number of athletic wins, as well as earning a first-place finish in 5 out of 7 events that helped them clinch gold in Greek Week. This success sparked the need to announce their accomplishments.
“The Ocho” was born when extreme athletic ability met social media and video . The Ocho team of Tre, Luciano, and Harrison describe themselves as “a team of professional sideline reporters that represents our Sig Tau Brothers and makes sure to capture every play and spectacular victory our boys pull out. With lead anchors Tre and Luciano assisted [by] their sideline on-the-spot reporter Harrison and cameraman Jack Alt, we can cover any game at any game.”
“This means post-game interviews, reporting player suspension, trade rumors, and halftime game analysis,” Tre Dukes explained. “We here at The Ocho are far from ‘just fans.’ We have put in years of following sports so obscure, so weird, so dangerous, that they can only be seen on one network, our network – Chapter Meeting. It’s the long hours spent at night analyzing every known play and the grit it takes to talk directly into a camera that you know in reality is just an inside-out box. Here at The Ocho, we are family.”

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
WHO IS BUFF DOMEIER? Q: How did you get to where you are today?
A: My career started right out of college in 1993 when I graduated. I took on different roles with a variety of different companies; I took an interest in the technical side of the market. So a lot of what I do is managing and advising affluent families and [providing] instructions with planning and investing money.
Q: What are some moments from your career that make you proud?
A: In 2007, I won the Charles H. Dow Award, which is the top award in Technical Analysis. That was the pinnacle achievement of my career. At this point I was the only person with the role of “financial advisor” to have won this award. In 2013, The Technical Analysis named a book I authored Technical Analysis Book of the Year. And recently, Forbes Magazine awarded me with the Top Wealth Advisor for the State of Indiana. I consider it all an honor and [am] so glad I get to share it with my brothers.
Tell me more about your Sig Tau experience and how it still applies to you today.
Looking back, the Principles of Sig Tau stand out from a lot of other fraternities, and I strive to work them into my career. I want my clients to feel like we are a part of something bigger and something important, that we are connected, more than just in business, but as in a fraternal family-like relationship. That is something I learned in Sig Tau and try to instill in my life and relationships today.
Another thing I look back at in my fraternal experience is that we are all diverse and come from different backgrounds, and we need to work together to make things happen when working in groups. Having that experience in college in a group-atmosphere, as opposed to having to do that in the professional world, was great and unique.
Q: What advice would you offer your undergraduate Sig Tau brothers?
A: Have a plan and develop a vision. Know what you want and plan it out and figure out how you’re going to get there. And if you don’t know yet, take the time to figure it out.
Buff Dormeier is a distinguished alumnus of the Delta Tau Chapter at Indiana State University. As a Chartered Market Technician (CMT), his roles include Managing Director of Investments and Senior PIM Portfolio Manager for Wells Fargo Advisors.
