Brooks Lake Lodge& Spa
“Among the pines glistened a lake. . . what a sight! Tracks of elk and bear.
Where I sat on my horse stretched a broad, peaceful valley. I stood closer
that day to nature’s heart than ever before.”
Bryant B. Brooks, discoverer of Brooks Lake in 1889
“...a high-end wilderness experience that marries the refinements of
civilization with a reverence for nature. . . .”
David Brooks, Travel & Leisure
“Brooks Lake Lodge is one of the ten best adventure lodges in America.”
Dina Mishev, Outside
Brooks Lake Lodge has a colorful history, rich in the
tradition of the Great Western Lodge, which began with the
grand built-into-nature structures of nearby Yellowstone
National Park. In the 1920’s, what began as a stop-over for
weary travellers soon evolved into a destination resort
named the Diamond G Ranch. It operated as a dude ranch
where wealthy Easterners would come to get their hands
dirty and experience the spirit of the “true West.” With
renewed interest in rustic vacations during the 80’s, the
lodge underwent a major restoration. Soon it became
nationally recognized for both its unique allure as a
wilderness getaway and its rich cultural history. The lodge
has recently been restored again and the current owners are
dedicated to continuing the tradition of the Great Western
Ranch and preserving the Western Craftsman style.

spirit. With dozens of trails to choose from, you will find
your path to adventure regardless of age, physical ability or
experience. Take an exhilarating climb to the summit of
Austin’s Peak, scramble atop the Pinnacles or follow a trail
through lush forest to the pristine Sublette Meadows.
Whether you go with one of our experienced guides or set
out on your own, we will keep you fueled with a hearty
pack lunch, plenty of snacks and fresh drinking water.
Follow one of our guides down the trail and learn about the
natural and cultural history of this unique area,
its diverse wildlife and the names of the native flowers.
At the end of a day on the trail, you will feel a sense of
accomplishment having witnessed a part of the natural
world only accessible by horseback or foot.
Hiking
Venture into the wilderness astride a trusty, mountain-bred
trail horse. Our horses are accustomed to the high altitude
terrain and know the area well. All of our rides are trail
rides led by our expert wranglers to allow you to enjoy a
safe, relaxing journey along dozens of awe-inspiring trails.
Ride through fields of wildflowers in Sublette Meadows,
meander down the rugged Bonneville trail, or wander
along the quiet shores of Upper Brooks Lake. Choose a
morning, afternoon or all-day ride, however long it takes
to rediscover the cowboy or cowgirl in you. If your skills are
just a little rusty, our wranglers will give you proper
instruction before you hit the trail. If it’s your first time on
a horse, lessons can be given in our arena before riding the
mountain trails. Whether you’re an experienced rider or a
beginner, our trail rides will fill you with the beauty and
wonder of this special area.
Horseback Riding
If you have travelled this far to experience the stunning,
majestic beauty of the mountain West and to immerse
yourself in the wonder of nature, it is imperative that you
join in one of our custom pack trips venturing far into the
wilderness. Travel north on a three-hour leisurely trail
ride to Cub Creek, where a full camp is set up and waiting
for you. Ride or hike above the camp to take in the breath-
taking views of the valley and surrounding mountain
peaks. Then return to camp where, although you are in a
rustic setting reminiscent of the pioneers of the Old West,
you will still enjoy a delicious hot meal served on fine china.
After a long day of riding and a great meal, tumble into
your well appointed tent with a down-filled sleeping bag on
a cot set beside the bubbling creek, where the sound of the
soft, rhythmic flow will lull you to sleep.
Pack Trips
When you bring your children to Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa,
it may be the beginning of an important appreciation of the
natural world and, before you know it, they may be hooked
on the outdoors for the rest of their lives. A children’s
coordinator can take your kids on a half or full-day trail
walk to learn about plants, bugs and wildlife and, most
importantly, have fun! With horseback riding, canoe trips,
fishing lessons and arts and crafts, your children will never
have a dull moment. After dinner, movies are played to
help the young adventurers unwind, or everyone can gather
around a campfire under the starry sky and enjoy games,
storytelling and treats. Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa is the
ideal place to have a family vacation that your children will
remember long enough to tell their own children.
