Message from Fr. Pergjini- "The Risen Lord does not show himself in a great public spectacle before the masses. That is certainly not the way of perception that could come closer to Him. He shows himself to witnesses who accompanied him on a part of his path to death. In accompanying them, one can encounter the Truth. This path has various stages and ways." ("Images of Hope" of Pope Benedict XVI.) Yes indeed, Easter needs witnesses who do accompany Christ to the end without End. And one of them, a humble and faithful one is Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. On April 16, 1927, 90 years ago, early in the morning, in a small town in Bavaria, Germany, Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, was born. His parents after four hours of his birth went to their parish church to baptize the little new born baby. It was Holy Saturday at 8:30am. His parents told him it was a stormy day with a lot of snow. Today, on this glorious Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 we rejoice to celebrate Easter, the victory of Christ over death, and also we thank Almighty Father for the gift of the 90 years of life of this genius and faithful servant of our Catholic Church. He was and still is as he has been called "the philosopher of God" and also the great theologian explaining, illuminating, and reconciling humanity with Christ. I personally cannot find the right words to express my deep gratitude for this genius man in whom I find rest spiritually and mentally. Today, on this special day, I feel his presence, his powerful writings, his inspiring preaching, and his deep and profound faith, his humble and saintly face when he celebrated Holy Mass. A long time ago, when I was in my early twenties, he had been my powerful and intellectual hero so that I have been able to see and penetrate better into the depth of the face of Christ. With great loving joy and interest I bought almost all his books. I read and reread them many times. His amazing works are like a mine where you never reach the bottom. Reading his books, I discovered the depth of his soul and his ability to search for face of Christ and leading others toward the mystery of our salvation. Many times I found refuge in his powerful writings. They engage my whole being into the depth of the inspiring and engaging theology and the inspiring and rewarding spirituality.

My joy and my love for him became greater at his election as our Vicar of Christ in 2005. I can never forget that moment being in the house of some friends when we heard the news. I had tears of joy realizing the great blessing to have him as our Pope, as the most eloquent voice of God in the world and leading the Catholic Church toward the Truth of Christ. And how wonderful again when he came to New York at St. Patrick Cathedral celebrating the Holy sacrifice of the Mass only for priests and religious communities, it happened, I think my good luck because of my love for this man, that as he was processing into cathedral and was going to the main aisle he passed near me. I took the courage to say to him: "What a joy Holy Father to have you here.” I could not say more but I stretched my hand to kiss his ring. I was pushed by one of the Swiss guards but still I could manage to reach his hand. He smiled with his deep and penetrating look and willing to satisfy my deep desire, stretched out his hand toward me. I kissed, with love and admiration, his papal ring on that beautiful spring day of April. In those few seconds my whole being, in the silence of my heart and soul, thanked him for what he has done for me personally.

After 90 years as I look back on his gigantic work that has inspired and led many people like myself to see better the face of the Risen Christ and to be faithful to His Truth. Pope Benedict XVI is the powerful witness that he often spoke and wrote of, who continues to accompany the Risen Christ and is able to encounter the Truth. In his last book published recently (which I highly recommend) as his "Last Testament in his own words with Peter Seewald." he reminds us that our whole life is ascending in an encounter with God, with the Risen Christ, the flame of his eternal longing is very powerful. I personally feel to penetrate in his soul, who through his powerful, humble words, invites all of us to imitate him on this journey of Easter. As I think of his birth, it was not a coincidence to be born on Holy Saturday, April 16, 1927, on a stormy day and after few hours to be baptized on the Easter Vigil, the most powerful feast of our faith. Almighty Father wanted to have this humble and saintly man to be born on Easter Vigil and be the one to proclaim with courage and hope the Divine Truth of Christ. Pope Benedict XVI is a great Easter gift to all humanity for being able to dedicate all his life, the 90 beautiful and fruitful years for the Glory of the Risen Christ and salvation of our souls. In that spirit of the Risen Christ, I thank Almighty Father for the gift of this great man for our Catholic church and all humanity! We love you, we thank you and God bless you dear Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI! Happy Birthday, my dear Hero! "The Risen Lord does not show himself in a great public spectacle before the masses. That is certainly not the way of perception that could come closer to Him. He shows himself to witnesses who accompanied him on a part of his path to death.
