Rationale: To upgrade the existing Computer Programming option to reflect the current
demands of business and to better prepare our students with the necessary conceptual
background and skill sets for advancement in the field. These revisions include
concentration on developing expertise in a server-based programming language,
introduction to the UNIX operating system, and utilizing database management as an
integrative tool. The creation of two new courses (Advanced JAVA Programming and UNIX
Fundamentals) will serve to reinforce this curricula change.

Rationale: The rapid expansion of graphic design into every area of digital technology from
print publication to multimedia, animation and motion graphics calls for a degree program
title that is reflective of that change. Digital Arts, the proposed new name for the revised
curriculum offered by the Art and Music Department, represents a degree program that
seeks to remain relevant into the 21st
century and serve an industry in a constant state of
change and flux.
This curriculum seeks to prepare students for the rapidly developing and changing field of
digital art by providing a basic career-oriented education. Through intensive training in visual
foundation arts and in state-of-the-art technology, students gain aesthetic awareness,
problem solving skills and the technical proficiencies necessary to pursue an entry-level
position in the visual communication design industry. The Graphic Design Option focuses on
print and web media design. The Interactive Multimedia option focuses on motion based,
interactive multimedia and animation.

or minor in Spanish. The inclusion of an extensive range of liberal arts courses, as well as
specific courses in Spanish, will facilitate a seamless transfer to a four-year college that
offers majors/minors in Spanish.
An articulation agreement between Bronx Community College and Lehman College ensures
that students who complete Bronx Community College’s A.A. in Liberal Arts and Sciences,
Spanish Option, will be able to enter the B.A. Program at Lehman College with advanced
standing, and further, all of their credits will be transferred to Lehman College’s Bachelor of
Arts degree.
A student in the Spanish Option who will later major/minor in Spanish at a four-year college
will receive a solid foundation in Spanish and may look forward to a career in many areas of
business, industry, government service, and mass communication as well as in teaching at
all levels from K-12.
A student in the Spanish Option at BCC will take four upper-level courses (15 credits) in
Spanish which will provide him/her with a good knowledge of the language, literature,
culture, and history of Spain and Latin America. These courses will also enhance the
student’s writing, reading and speaking skills in Spanish.

Rationale: Students who consistently obtain B grades and above in their prerequisite
courses, especially science and mathematics, have a greater chance of completing the
challenging specialization courses. The new admission requirement gives our students
greater possibility to complete their program of study successfully.

to the program first with no ranking
based on credits on campus.
2. Students with a 3.01 to a 3.49
pre-clinical GPA will be ranked
according to their pre-sequence
average. If two students have the
same average, a student who has

according to the number of credits
on campus.
D. Students transferring from another
college must submit an official
transcript. For Anatomy &

Explanation 3D computer graphics animation is one of the most rapidly
expanding areas of creative endeavor and technical
development in the digital arts. 3D graphics play an important
role in computer animation, but are also a major tool for
architecture design, space planning, and products
visualization, etc. This introductory course provides students
with a basic understanding of how to design in 3 dimensions,
and a foundational knowledge of the possibilities of this new
technology. In this class, students will not only enrich the
content and artistic style in their own interactive multimedia
design, but also gain an understanding for knowledgeable
decision-making in future career choices.
