Innovative water-based insecticide for space spray

Aqua K-Othrine® is a space spray concentrate containing 2% deltamethrin.Deltamethrin is a highly active pyrethroid insecticide which will effectively flush insects out of their hidingplaces and kill through direct contact. Patented Aqua technology

Aqua K-Othrine® formulation is based on water andthis highlitghts the specific benefits of the formulation.The Film Forming Aqueous Spray Technology (FFAST)is a unique patented formulation system which allowsthe use of water as the diluent without the normaldrawbacks of evaporation.The principle behind FFAST is simple yet extremely

effective. As each droplet is formed, long chain alcoholmolecules rapidly migrate to the surface where theyalign to form a protective skin. This gives a sealedpackage of water-based insecticide, thereby retardingevaporation and greatly extending the effective rangeof the spray.The key result of this is that Aqua K-Othrine® provideslong-lasting effective droplets in all climatic conditionsand is as effective as oil/diesel diluted space sprayconcentrates when sprayed at equivalent active ingre-dient rates.

Aqua K-Othrine® is easy to use, a user friendlyconcentrate producing a space spray that minimisesflammability, smell, staining, paintwork damage,toxicological risk and pollution.

Water – the natural diluent

Water is the natural choice for the diluent of spacesprays, particularly in the light of increased concernabout the use of diesel. However, water-dilutableemulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulations may givepoorer insecticidal performance in comparison withdiesel or oil-diluted products. This is due to evapora-

tion of water (which is more volatile than diesel) fromthe spray, leaving droplets which are too small forefficient impaction on the insect.

By using water as the main solvent, as well as thediluent, Aqua K-Othrine® can offer a number of specificbenefits to the user. Aqua K-Othrine® is clean, easy tohandle concentrate which is completely acceptable inuse since it has virtually no odour.The water-based formulation eliminates the risk of fire,as well as reducing paint spotting and staining.Water is the natural choice for the diluent because it isreadily available and offers genuine cost savings to theuser compared with oil or diesel diluents.

Impact on the environment

Aqua K-Othrine® significantly reduces environmentalpollution because the formulation is water-based andwater-diluted. The active ingredient deltamethrin israpidly degraded in the natural environment and thelow dosage rates of 0.5 to 1.0 g/ha again contribute toa reduction in environmental contamination.

Method of use

Aqua K-Othrine® is multi-functional in terms of applica-tion. Primarily, it has been designed for Ultra LowVolume (ULV) use but is also ideal for thermal foggingAqua K-Othrine® can be used for large scale conven-tional outdoor spraying as well as for indoor use.For outdoor ULV spraying Aqua K-Othrine® should bediluted with water and applied using any ULV machinecapable of producing droplets with a volume mediandiameter (VMD) in the range of 15-25 microns. The product may also be applied through hand heldthermal foggers for control of mosquitoes.In case of indoor treatments, remove all pets andfoodstuffs from the room and cover all surfaces used

• Prepare only the amount of product required forimmediate usage. Do not store diluted material.• Do not dispose of any excess diluted product andrinsings of dip containers into waterways, ponds,streams etc. Can be landfilled or incinerated incompliance with local regulations.

Soil• Persistence and degradationDeltamethrin is rapidly degraded in most soils withDT50 values of approximately 3 weeks.• Mobility:Deltamethrin is absorbed onto soil particles veryrapidly and with high adsorption constants. Thedesorption is very low, therefore the risk of leaching ofthe parent compound into deep soil layers can be excluded.

Safety Advice

• Wear suitable protective clothing when handling theproduct (e.g. coveralls, eye protection (faceshield), andgloves and when applying the product (e.g. coveralls,gloves, goggles and spray mask).• Avoid working in spray mist or wear a spray maskand suitable protective clothing.• Wash hands and exposed parts before eating, drinkingor smoking and after work.• When spraying indoors exclude persons and animalsduring treatment, and ventilate treated areas thoroughlyafter treatment.• Wash splashes from skin or eyes immediately withplenty of water.• Mechanical sprayers can be noisy. The use of ear protec-tion is recommended when spraying indoors or in otherenclosed places.• Do not spray the moving parts of any machinery, electricmotors and switchgear.• Do not apply light oil based sprays in the presence of nakedflames, hot surfaces or unprotected electrical equipment.• Remove heavily contaminated clothing immediately andwash before re-use.• The user should obtain hazard information on thediluent (e.g. diesel oil) and take necessary precautions.• Do not apply directly to surfaces on which food is stored,prepared or eaten.• Protect food, food-preparing equipment and eatingutensils from contamination during application.• Toxic to fish and aquatic life. Do not contaminateponds, waterways or ditches with chemical or usedcontainer.• Keep out of reach of children.• Keep only in original container, tightly closed, in a safe place.• Wash out used container thoroughly and dispose of safely.

Contact with skin:Carefully remove contaminatedclothes and shoes. Wash with soapand water. Apply Vitamin E creamor simple lotion. When symptomspersist or in all cases of doubt,seek medical advice immediately.

Contact with eyes:Rinse immediately with plenty ofwater for at least 15 minutes.In case of persistent inflammation,seek advice from an ophthalmologist.

In case of inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Keep patient atrest. If symptoms persist, call aphysician.

In case of ingestion:Wash out mouth with water. Do notinduce vomiting. Keep patient atrest. Seek medical advice immedia-tely.

Local treatment:Initial treatment should be sympto-matic and supportive. After eyecontact: instillation of local anaes-thetic drops e.g. 1% AmethocaineHydrochloride eye drops. Giveanalgesics as necessary.

Systemic treatment:

Endotracheal intubation should bedone and gastric lavage performed,followed by administration ofcharcoal.Monitoring of respiratory andcardiac functions ECG - monitoring(Electrocardiogram)Check for pulmonary oedema inevent of inhalation.Keep airway clear, administer artifi-cial respiration if necessary. Againstconvulsions: Give diazepam: foradults 5-10 mg intravenously asnecessary until fully sedated ; forchildren 2.5 mg i.v.There is no antidote.Contraindication: atropineContraindication: derivatives ofadrenalineRecovery: Spontaneous.
