‘The challenge of change’

Who would have ever imagined that

Travel agent federation of India would have ever organised its annual convention in

Jerusalem, Israel. But such is the enormous power of change,

that what earlier seemed impossible, has today become a reality.

The Travel agents federation of India has always believed in being a path breaker and it is under this guiding principle that it has scheduled its annual convention, february 22-25, 2015 in Jerusalem, which has for long been a historical, spiritual and cultural international hub. Religious tourism is very significant to Israel because of its immense importance as a holy site for three religions, christianity, Judaism and Islam.

and though Indians, have in the past, travelled in fewer numbers to Israel, for TafI, sincerely it is a destination waiting to be explored by Indians, because it has such diverse attractions and charm. admittedly also it is common to find some Indians who have moved to Israel and made it their permanent home. It is a small country but at the same time it is in international limelight.

Talking about the theme of the convention, ‘The challenge of change’, we have to accept that change is the only constant in life. our industry is facing changes on a regular basis and therefore it is of utmost importance that we develop a mechanism for coping with these swinging changes. TafI has lined up eminent speakers for its convention to decode these wild swings for its membership in order to enable them to stay ahead of the competition. Because this is indeed the key to survival.

Be that as it may, the people of Israel are warm, sincere and friendly. TafI has received letters of endorsement and support from the Israel tourist board, the Mayor of Jerusalem, the Indian ambassador to Israel, assuring us and promising a heartfelt welcome.

The Israeli authorities have also put together a comprehensive pre and post tours programme, so that delegates can explore its exotic and diverse charms. The dead sea,

which is the lowest point on the earth’s surface at 1300 feet below sea level, and therefore famous for its health, wellness and recuperative powers, haifa and the multi-faceted Jerusalem, besides the international gateway city of Tel aviv are some of the destinations lined up for Indian travellers. In addition, several day tours to local attractions are on offer for Jerusalem itself.

as regards the Visas, Israeli authorities have sanctioned group Visas and member delegates have to submit their passport copies to TafI for processing of the same. Individual submissions will not be entertained by them, under this scheme.

Due to the limited flights to Israel, TafI will be taking only 500 delegates and that is why I strongly urge you to register early so that there is no subsequent disappointment and frustration. TafI has strict limits for registration and therefore overflow delegates will not be accepted. Kindly cooperate with the convention committee on this matter.

all the details about the convention are mentioned in this brochure. Please go through them and acquaint yourself with the same to maximise the benefits to yourself.

Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous new year.

We at TafI are very careful while selecting a partner country for tourism exchange. for this convention, we have selected a brand new destination-Jerusalem in Israel. as you may be aware, this destination is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is believed that at the hill of golgotha in this city, Jesus was crucified. It is at this spot that the church of the holy Sepulcher stands.

Travel and Tourism is the largest service industry in India. It offers heritage, cultural, medical, business and sports tourism to visitors. The Indian tourism sector has been flourishing in recent years due to improved connectivity to and from the country. The policies such as Swachh Bharat, strengthening of infrastructure, safety and security of tourists, development of tourist circuits, introduction of e-visas, etc., implemented by the Tourism Ministry will be instrumental in providing the necessary boost to the

Indian tourism and hospitality industry. It is expected that the contribution of tourism sector to the country’s gDP will grow at the rate of 7% to 8% in the period 2014 – 2023.

We are sure that you all will come back from this convention as a heavy weight loaded with many innovative ideas resulting in manifold growth of your business. We promise to give you an extraordinary experience in this convention.

Do not miss this golden opportunity to visit the holy city of Jerusalem and be a part of the grand assembly of TafI’ites at the forthcoming convention.

looking forward to welcoming you all in Jerusalem.

dear TAFI’ites

greetings. Its convention time once again, that time of the year when

we explore new destinations, network amongst ourselves and deliberate on

the happenings in our businesses-the largest economy churner in the world.

our destination this time is Jerusalem, Israel. contrary to general perception Israel besides being the cradle of three great religions, ancient history and culture is also a country which offers exotic beaches, a pulsating night life and the lowest points on earth— The Dead Sea.

The Icc Jerusalem is the prime venue for the convention and will be abuzz with activity from the 22nd to 25th feb. 2015.

each venue for the gala dinners and entertainment has been hand-picked to offer the delegates a unique experience.

The theme “The challenge of change” has been selected after much deliberation to represent the quickly changing business environment, and the challenges, which the change comes with. eminent speakers and experts will help steer the delegates into the future.

The convention committee and I would be delighted with your presence and look forward to greet you in “i Travel Jerusalem”.

Bharat Shah chairman TAFI convention committee

dear TAFI’ites

greetings !!! TafI has been organising its annual convention in various countries across the

world. We have chosen destinations which stand out. Israel already has a large number of tourists from across the world, and even large numbers of Indians travelling for “holy land”, however we wish to show the other side of Israel – the side for the leisure and luxury travellers.

conventions are birth place of ideas, discussions and debates, and what better a place than Israel – The land of creation to discuss on “The challenge of change”. change is the only constant, and its important for us to

continue to change along with changing times, and to win over the challenges. The Business sessions

have been carefully designed to focus on core issues and to create avenues to augment the earnings of our members.

The warm and friendly people of Jerusalem are waiting with open arms to welcome all delegates.

I wish all the delegates a wonderful convention experience and a memorable trip to Israel.

I am glad to know that Travel agents federation of India (TafI) is going to organize its forthcoming convention at Jerusalem,

Israel from 22nd to 25th february, 2015.

It is well known that tourist industry has great economic potential and many countries around the world have recognized it as an important activity contributing to the economic, cultural and social upliftment. as a result of economic development, the profile of tourists is undergoing a sea change with each passing year. having established its regional chapters far and wide throughout India, TafI plays an important role in propagating incredible tourism products in India and abroad.

I am sure TafI convention will take up various crucial issues facing the industry in its Business Sessions with a view to arriving at logical solutions.

I wish TafI convention all the best.

dr. Mahesh Sharma Minister of State (Independent charge) of Tourism & culture and Minister of State of civil Aviation Government of India, new delhi

I am happy to learn that Travel agents federation of India (TafI) is holding its

next convention at Jerusalem, Israel from the 22nd to 25th february, 2015.

The Travel agent Industry in India is growing rapidly and is economically very

important. It goes hand in hand with Tourism. The revenue earned through it not only adds

to the gDP of the country but also generates significant potential for employment.

however, there are challenges too which needs to be addressed. I understand that with an ever expanding membership base, TafI follows a pragmatic approach to help its members get over conflicting issues.

given the intense competition in this sector among most of the countries, we have accentuated the process of improving the existing infrastructure so as to enable us to enhance the flow of foreign tourists to India and give them a memorable experience.

furthermore, a comprehensive civil aviation Policy is on the anvil, which amongst other issues, seeks to promote a robust and complementary role between the tourism and aviation sectors.

I wish TafI convention grand success.

p. Ashok Gajapathi raju Minister of civil Aviation Government of India

I was happy to learn that the Travel agents federation of India (TafI) is holding its convention this year in Jerusalem from 22-

25 february 2015.

Relations between India and Israel have been growing in strength over the past few years. exchanges between the two countries whether in trade, culture or education have expanded greatly and there is a constant flow of businessmen, scholars, artists, government officials and tourists.

India has a special place in the hearts of most Israelis and is a

popular tourist destination. I hope that the deliberations at the convention will generate new ideas to make India the most favoured tourist destination for visitors from Israel and the world.

I convey my best wishes for a constructive and fruitful convention.

TheLand of Ceation

Israel lies at the very eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It’s a land

blessed with six micro-climates, mountains, valleys, deserts, the greenest of pastures, wide-ranging wildlife, outlets to two oceans, as well as two inland seas - one feeding the other through the passage of the River Jordan. from almost 10,000 feet high at Mount hermon, it plunges to the

lowest point on the face of the earth: the dead Sea. Per square mile, it is possibly the world’s most diverse landscape.

Israel is a land of natural beauty. It is also a land crammed with history and the search for faith. 40 centuries of civilization have left their mark in archaeological, historic and religious

sites so rich in splendor that six of them have been recognized by UneSco as World heritage Sites. It is also a 21st century success story where ultra modern cities, towns and villages are home to a people who are the world’s highest per capita users of personal computers and cell phones.

• Israel has less than 1/1000th of the world’s population.

• The dead Sea, the lowest point on earth at -408 meters, is in Israel.

• The highest point in Israel is Mt. Meron, at 1208 meters.

• Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to population in the world.

• Most Israeli college students are over age 21 when they begin their studies, after three years of compulsory military service for men and almost two years for women.

• The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.

• The pentium-4 microprocessor and the centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel.

• Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

• Israel produces one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.

• Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation, and by a large margin -109 per 10,000 people.

• Israel has more companies traded on the technology heavy nASdAQ stock exchange than any country outside north America.

• Israel has the second largest number of startup companies in the world (mostly in hi-tech). currently there are about 4000 hi-tech companies in Israel-the largest concentration in the world outside california.

• As of 2012, Israel was ranked 16th among 187 world nations on the un’s human development Index, which places it in the category of “Very highly Developed.”

• Israel’s economy was ranked 17th among the world’s most economically developed nations, the world’s most durable economy in the face of crises and first in the rate research and development center investments. The Bank of Israel was ranked first among central banks for its efficient functioning.

• Israel has the highest number of scientists, technicians, and engineers per capita in the world, with 140 scientists, technicians, and engineers per 10,000 employees, and its population is one of the world’s most technologically literate.

• Israel also remains one of the largest centers in the world for technology start-up enterprises. Two hundred startups are created annually and more than 2500 start-up companies are operating throughout the country.

like the United States, Israel is an ethnic melting pot of cultures, religions and immigrants. as a result, the food scene in Israel is extraordinarily diverse and also of a very high standard. 80% of Israelis are Jews of whom more than half were born in Israel. But most of their parents, grandparents or great grandparents came to Israel from more than 120 countries, bringing with them foods, recipes and food traditions from six continents. and the 20% of non-Jewish Israelis have their own food traditions too. Israel is also a part of the Western world, and very little happens in los angeles, london, Tokyo and Paris that doesn’t find its way to Israel within a few weeks. Put all this together and you have the ingredients for one of the most dynamic, fascinating – and delicious – food scenes in the world.

If you’d ask an Israeli 25 or 30 years ago what is the country’s typical fare, chances are the answer would be falafel, humus, tehina, with a side order of couscous or gefilte fish. a lot has happened in 25 or 30 years. all these dishes still exist, of course, indeed the first four are ubiquitous. But Israel has it all now, from hamburgers (Israel’s first McDonald’s opened in the 90’s) to pizza to sushi (more sushi restaurants per capita in Tel aviv than in any city on earth, including Tokyo), to the cuisines of India and china, to some of the finest influences of Paris, Brussels, lyon, Barcelona and new York – the Israel food scene is utterly sophisticated and in step with the latest trends.

There are two elements that make food in Israel so unique. one is our location on the shores of the Mediterranean.

like Turkey, greece, Italy, france and Spain, the cuisine reflects the warm sun, the olives that grow on trees, the olive-oil, and the breads, fish and meats that have made the Mediterranean the source of what is considered by many as the world’s healthiest diet and, quite simply, the source of the best things to eat. Secondly, Israel produces the most splendid quality of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. from the legendary Jaffa oranges first exported to europe in the 1930’s, to the kiwis, star fruit, citrus, tomatoes, peppers, flowers, yoghurts and cheeses that are exported today.

Israel has economic ties with almost all nations in the world and manufactures a wide variety of products. There are countless opportunities for shopping in Israel in the shopping centers that have sprung up in the past few decades - including the Malkha Mall, the largest in the Middle east - as well as in the colorful markets, annual bazaars, street malls, and shops in the large cities - all of which offer attractive imported and locally-made items.

Tel Aviv has entire streets with shops devoted to one particular item: spices, bridal gowns, clothing, fabrics, furniture, original gift items, fashion accessories, and galleries. In addition to these special streets such as dizengoff, Shenkin, herzl, nakhlat Binyamin, and Levinsky, there are bi-weekly art fairs on nakhlat Binyamin

in the city center, bazaars with designer clothes and crafts in the exhibition grounds and around the port area, and an annual food fair called “Ta’am ha-Ir” (Taste of the city) where one can sample a variety of foods that are available in restaurants throughout the country.

The old city is the focus of attraction in Jerusalem with its oriental and local atmosphere, where one can purchase artefacts, ornaments made of wood, seashells, leather and straw, blown glass, and traditional clothing.

haifa has large, new shopping centers, of which the largest and most unique is “Kastra”, which has the largest mural in the world. Ben Gurion Boulevard, a renovated street below the Bahai gardens, has stores with Templer style merchandise.

eilat, the tourist and vacation city located at the southernmost point in Israel, not only offers tourist items and souvenirs, but imported electrical appliances and clothing as well. Purchases in eilat are significantly less expensive since they are exempt from VaT. There are also tax-free shops in Ben gurion airport and at the border crossing point at Taba.

Businesses that operate under government supervision and listed with the Ministry of Tourism display the Ministry of Tourism logo and offer a variety of items such as jewelry and diamonds, carpets, women’s fashions, leather goods, artwork, ceramics, and embroidery.

Tel aviv hosts a wide range of architectural styles which were influenced by various schools of architecture - among which was the International Bauhaus style. The central portion of Tel aviv - which is known as “The white city” - contains the largest group of buildings in the world built in the International Bauhaus style. for this reason the white city has been declared a world heritage site by uneSco.

This style originated in germany and was based upon clean geometric shapes and asymmetry, and flourished from the 1930s until the establishment of the State. It soon attracted other city architects as well.

The White city extends from allenby Street to the south to the Yarkon River to the north, and from Begin Boulevard to the east to the sea. There are large

concentrations of buildings of this style on rothschild Boulevard and in the area of dizengoff center. Park haYarkon is in the northern part of the White city on the banks of the Yarkon River and the Tel aviv port lies at the northwest corner and has a large concentration of entertainment centers, nightclubs, and restaurants.

Tel aviv is a perfect city for tourists and people who love having fun. It is a bustling city of lights, saturated with a vivacious passion for life while offering every possible type of evening entertainment. called the city that never stops, Tel aviv lives up to this description every day of the week from dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn.

Start with a good restaurant by the sea and enjoy a romantic sunset; see a play or musical performance in the evening; watch a movie at midnight, have a drink after the movie and then go dancing until daybreak (don’t forget to see the sunrise over the rooftops).

The city offers a host of amazing variety of cultural venues: music clubs and dance

parties offer you every style of music, mixed and spun by world class DJs; movie theaters screening the current and greatest classic movies; theaters presenting classic and modern plays or amusing stand-up comedians; dance companies from Israel and around the world; music, cinema and performing arts festivals and street shows.

There are restaurants and coffee shops that serve ethnic foods alongside gourmet dishes; dance bars and pubs where the music and drinks flow like water; a dynamic amusement park that will get your adrenalin flowing; concert halls and wide open parks where you can enjoy musical performances These entertainment sites are scattered throughout the city,

from the Florentine quarter in the south, along Shenkin Street in the city center and all the way to Tel Aviv port, in the north. Whichever way you walk, you will find a wonderful selection of entertainment spots.

Tel aviv has a few other features that contribute to the uniqueness of this city: the sandy beach all along its western edge is an attraction all on its own and a place for romantic experiences while the warm, effusive Israeli temperament and the Middle eastern climate make you feel like just enjoying life.

The Galilee...The galilee is a mountainous region

in Israel’s north, and is divided into two main parts - the Upper galilee to the north and the lower galilee to the south. The highest peak in the Upper galilee is Mt. Meron, which rises 1,208 meters above sea level, while the highest point in the lower galilee is the summit of Mt. Kamon, at 602 meters above sea level.

Thanks to the abundant water and the fertile soil in the galilee’s valleys, this region has been relatively densely

populated since ancient times and today has the largest variety of ethnic communities in Israel.

The galilee is one of Israel’s main tourism centers, with dozens of different types of sites. for example, there are national antiquities parks (including Bar’am, Tsipori (Zippori), Beit She’arim, Monfort and Kohav hayarden); moshava farming communities from the early days of the modern settlement of Israel, which tell the story of Zionism (Metula,

yesud ha-Ma’ala, rosh pina); beautiful nature reserves (hula Lake, Mt. Meron, Bar’am Forest, nahal Kziv and many more); Jewish holy sites, such as the graves of the sages and ancient synagogues (in Safed (Tsfat) and Tiberias); and christian holy sites that are visited by many pilgrims during their tour of the holy land (nazareth, Kfar nahum (capernaum), the Jordan river and Lake Kineret).

all winter long, the most important part of the news report for Israelis is not the dollar-shekel exchange rate or the level of the Tel aviv Stock exchange index, but rather the water level in Lake Kineret, which often reflects the national spirit. The Kineret, or Sea of galilee, is Israel’s largest fresh water reservoir, and is also the country’s largest and most important source and reservoir of drinking water.

The beaches that surround the entire lake are similar but different. The width of the beaches varies in keeping with the local geography, creating different landscapes in every location. above the eastern and western shores, for example, rise the

galilee mountains and the foothills of the golan, while to the north there is the Beit Tsida valley, a wide area with plentiful water that drains from the Jordan River and the golan streams, and to the south is the Jordan estuary, which flows south toward the desert regions.

Most of the beaches also offer various types of water sports and water activities, such as boating in inflatable rubber dinghies, canoes, etc. These beaches are also a perfect starting point for wonderful nature tours of the area. Some of the most popular and beautiful nature sites are the Jordan park, the Beit Tsida nature reserve, Khamat Gader, naharayim.

There is also the lower Golan heights region, which borders on the Kineret and is full of swift flowing streams, historic sites and nature reserves.

The Kineret played an important role in the early years of christianity and has now become a pilgrimage site for many christians. according to christian tradition, Jesus lived, preached and performed miracles in the Kineret and the surrounding region. It was here that he walked on the water and the miracle of the loaves and the fishes happened in nearby Kfar nakhum (capernaum).

The Dead Seahow far does one have to

descend to reach the Dead Sea? about 400 meters below sea level. how deep is this salty lake? almost the same (in the northern section). fascinating? absolutely! every detail about the Dead Sea is fascinating.

here are a few more facts: The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth in any land mass (417 meters below sea level, to be exact). The quantity of water that evaporates from it is greater than that which flows into it, such that this body of water has the highest concentration of salt in the world (340 grams per liter of water).

It is called the Dead Sea because its salinity prevents the existence of any life forms in the lake. That same salt, on the other hand, provides tremendous relief to the many ailing visitors who come here on a regular basis to benefit from its healing properties. all these and more make the Dead Sea so fascinating, so different and so interesting.

The Dead Sea can also be called “the lowest health spa in the world.” Sea salts are produced from the southern section for industry, and in the northern section promote tourism and good health. The composition of the salts and minerals in

the water are what make it so unique and beneficial for the body.

The sea bed also has deposits of black mud that is easy to spread on the body and provides the skin with nourishing minerals. as if that were not enough,

the bromide in the air is also beneficial to the body’s systems, thus making the Dead Sea a provider for good health and healing for vacationers from all over the world.

The Dead Sea is a truly priceless national treasure. The western shore is dotted with organized beaches and bathing areas that provide convenient access to the water. Beside two of the therapeutic beaches (neve Zohar and ein Bokek) large tourism centers have been established, providing the most pampering tourism services.

You will find dozens of hotels, hostels and guest houses, restaurants and shopping centers, as well as surprising

tourism enterprises that offer a wide range of challenging activities (jeep and bicycle tours, camel tours and Bedouin hospitality, rappelling and more), alongside art and cultural activities (galleries and artists’ studios), and of course the unique agriculture, adapted to the local climate.

The Dead Sea is on the edge of the Judean Desert, a hot, barren region at the foot of ha-he’etekim cliff, which has also become an important center of desert tourism.

The coastline is dotted with many springs, surrounded by wild plant life. The special combination that has formed in this place, between desert landscapes and oasis with plentiful water, plants and animals, attracts both the eye and the heart and draws many tourists to sites such as Mt. Sdom, nakhal darga, the ein Gedi nature reserve and the einot Tsukim (ein Fashkha) reserve.

Massada is one of the most exciting and frequently-toured places in Israel, and relates a story of perseverance and power, faith and surrender, ambitions, and a tragic end. Massada is a place where battles were waged with rocks and flaming arrows, as well as battles of the human spirit.

Massada is situated on the top of a mountain with steep sides and a flat top like a parapet overlooking the desert panorama to the west and the Dead Sea to the east. The thrilling story of the site reveals the courage of the defenders of Massada and their battle against the conquering Romans.

The story, related against the background of the ancient panorama, is as thrilling as a hollywood movie, and is filled with tension, struggle, and love.

Eilat...over the years, the city of eilat

has become the ultimate resort city with hotels and beaches packed with thousands of Israeli vacationers and tourists from around the world, who come to relax in the country’s southernmost spot.

The secret of this little city’s charm is its special location in the northern end of the Bay of eilat. The combination of a hot climate, a tropical sea and a breathtaking background of wild, bare granite mountains has turned it into a tourist gem all the year round.

eilat’s location made it strategically significant during the many historical periods in which it served as a port – starting in the days of King Solomon.

The bay is one of the major attractions, thanks to the beautiful beaches, the developed water sports and some of the best diving spots in the world. In the south of the city is the coral Reserve, with splendid tropical fish among the reefs. Within the precincts of the reserve is the underwater observatory, with a marine museum that displays collections of fascinating sea animals. not far from the observatory is the dolphin reef with its resident school of dolphins.

The city’s many and varied restaurants suit all tastes, and there are also clubs, colorful shops and a promenade along the northern shoreline which holds vibrant bazaars during the summer.

The arava region north of the city and the eilat Mountains is an arid desert. But in between the exposed mountains there are many nature and beauty spots as well as archaeological and historical sites, which make eilat a good starting point for special trips in the area, such as camel treks, jeep tours and more.

at Jerusalem’s heart is the old city, which is surrounded by a wall and divided into four quarters - Jewish, armenian, christian, and Muslim. Inside the walls are the important holy sites of the three major religions: the western wall, which is holy to the Jews, the church of the holy Sepulcher, and the dome of the rock on the Temple Mount. The Western Wall plaza is visited by millions of worshipers. here, at the base of the massive wall that is a remnant of the holy Temple, prayers

are offered and notes containing heartfelt wishes are wedged between the crevices.

Surrounding the Western Wall are other important Jewish sites - the western wall Tunnels, the unique davidson center, the Jewish quarter with its magnificent cardo and David’s citadel, towering proudly in its beauty. South of the old city is the city of david, from which the ancient can’anite and Israelite Jerusalem grew. This is a fascinating site with amazing findings that provide an unforgettable experience.

The construction of the new city’s neighborhoods began in the late 19th century. Some of the neighborhoods have retained their original picturesque charm, and wandering among the houses is a real pleasure. Some of these neighborhoods are even Yisrael, the german colony, yemin Moshe, Me’a She’arim, Makhane yisra’el, nakhla’ot, nakhalat Shiv’a, ein Karem, Komemi’ut, rekhavia, the Bukharian Quarter and the ethiopian Quarter. There are many other interesting and unique

sites from different periods throughout the city, such as Armon han atsiv and the promenade, Ammunition hill, yad Vashem holocaust Memorial Museum, Mishkenot Sha’ananim, the Monastery of the cross, elias Monastery and the yMcA building. among the more modern sites are the Supreme court, the Israel Museum, the Biblical Zoo, the Knesset, Mt. herzl, Makhane yehuda market, with its unparalleled variety of exciting sounds, colors, flavors and aromas.

Young people who like to go out in the evenings will love Jerusalem’s main night life regions: the german colony, the Ben yehuda pedestrian mall, nakhalat Shiv’a, Shlomtsiyon haMalka Street, and the russian compound.

for all of its historical and religious magnificence, Jerusalem is a very modern city as well. alongside ancient sites and monuments and a modern seat of government, a wide range of cultural districts have sprung up, and so have contemporary shopping centers and attractive cafes, restaurants and entertainment and nightlife spots.

as to just having fun - during the daylight hours, the Ben yehuda Street promenade in the heart of Jerusalem is a major focus of activity, with a wide variety of outdoor cafes and restaurants. once a sleepy city, Jerusalem in recent years has also become a city replete with a variety of nighttime and pub districts where the emphasis is on good food and drink, enjoyment, and a youthful atmosphere. for tourists in particular, folk dance presentations are available in evenings much of the time, and this can be followed by a tour

through the city to admire the many tourist sites that are illuminated throughout the evening. There are a number of sites in Jerusalem which tourists, no matter their overall interests, will not want to miss. The Israel Museum, is the country’s largest of museum and fills the role of a national museum. In a single afternoon of inquisitive browsing, the diligent tourism might see the Dead Sea Scrolls from the caves in Qumeran (the oldest hebrew Bible manuscripts to have been uncovered), housed in the Shrine of the Book, ponder a Van gogh or a Matisse, follow the Jewish life cycle in communities allover the world, investigate the archeology of Israel, or else stroll among 19th and 20th century masterpieces of sculpture in the sculpture garden. a huge on-premises model of Jerusalem the way modern scholars envision its having looked 2000 years ago is part of the Shrine of the Book

complex, so as to put the findings from the scrolls into a more meaningful historical perspective.

another Jerusalem landmark is yad Vashem, the memorial for the 6,000,000 Jews killed during the World War II holocaust. This poignant center, newly renovated and expanded, is dedicated to the memory of the victims of mindless anti-Semitic barbarism. It presents visitors with an important insight into the psyche of the State of Israel and the circumstances which led to its creation.

To see Jerusalem at its most modern, pay a visit to Israel’s Supreme court Building. This complex has earned international acclaim for its architecture. nearby is Israel’s Knesset (Parliament), also worth a visit. Since one neighborhood of Jerusalem is so different from the next, Israel’s capital is a magical city to explore by foot.

Jerusalem inaugurated a new light railway system a couple of years ago, making it easier for tourists to navigate a city where traffic congestion is not unusual. In connecting the city center, the old city and east Jerusalem, Mt. herzl and a host of museums, the new light railway makes Jerusalem more accessible to all visitors and enables them to reach sites easily by public transportation. The downtown stops, in particular, bring passengers close to many of the city’s main sites, while the railway’s route through less-frequently visited neighborhoods will certainly tempt some just to get on and off and explore areas they would have missed otherwise. The light railway is an excellent way for tourists to discover another Jerusalem, not just history, religion and antiquities.

dos and don’t for delegatesIsrael is a very strict country where security is concerned and has laws which are stringent thus not allowing any compromise on security and following law of the land. our convention is planned on an invitation from Israel hence we all have to remember we are guests of a foreign nation. The delegates need to maintain certain code of conduct when availing of the convention facilities. 1. Most delegates are from the Travel Industry who are aware of the travel & tours arrangements, the logistics problems one can face, the in-numerous changes and alterations which can happen due to flights, hotels and ground handling. Immigration process in Israel is thorough and it may take some time it is therefore expected of our delegates to be patient with the handing over of documents, information being given and maintain restrain and patience during these processes. 2. every one working for the convention is doing a voluntary service to the association and its members hence the Delegate must respect & appreciate the convention team and its efforts.3. attending a convention would require the delegate to ensure participation in all the planned programs. The delegate must ensure full attendance for all the business sessions, buyer /seller meets/ evening programs/ city tours. Planning and organizing for all these events is done with great efforts and costs.4. our Delegate must remember you are viewed and assessed by your nationality thus becoming the face of your country. letting it down before other nationalities is a direct insult to your country. one must remember this in every interaction especially on a foreign soil.5. any Delegate if found to be misbehaving after consumption of alcohol will be barred from attending any of the future events during the convention. The said delegate will also not be allowed to participate in future TafI events.

6. any cost incurred due to such behaviour will have to be borne by the registering company .7. The city tours are planned by our host country hence the delegates will have to accept the tour executions as per availability and the host country planning. no demands of any personal choices will be entertained.8. The delegates have to maintain a strict code of dressing as per the events/ visits to monuments/ religious sites/ visits to the dead sea (proper swim-wear required strictly or will not be permitted to enter). Proper leather shoes for business meets also a must . no sports footwear will be allowed. formal shirts / trousers compulsory. no t-shirts without collars allowed.9. Maintaining sanctity in religious places have to be followed10. Maintaining time on all days of the convention is a must. attendance has to be as per prescribed timings, walking in late for business sessions has to be strictly avoided.11. Delegates should carry enough business cards with India printed on the card. This is helpful during buyer / seller meets.
