When you drive and live in a Scania, you are entitled to expect some thing special. At Scania, driver focus has always been top priority. The new interior features of our new R and G cabs are the result of a constant quest for an ergonomic and engaging driver experience. Styling, functionality, comfort and safety are all hallmarks of the new interior.

Style

The standard Highline Sleeper Cab interior colour schemes feature the soft-feel leather-like dash top cover and dark grey mid and lower sections, bisected by a smart dark chrome strip. Accents in the same finish are found around the air vents and the controls on the steering wheel, as well as the trim around the centre console stowage area.

Functionality

The centre storage console has a rubberised upper surface; a lidded cubby on the end for holding items such as sunglasses, while a wide pull out drawer lies beneath, large enough to accommodate an A4-sized folder. There are also 12 volt and 24 volt outlets in the side of the dashboard end near the passenger seat.

Comfort

Take a seat and feel the difference. Notice how everything is in view and within easy reach. Try out the controls and experience the distinct, intuitive feedback in your fingertips. It’s pure premium in every detail.

Ergonomics

New features also include a self-contained mobile ashtray that can be inserted securely into any of the four cup holder spaces; two large plastic drink bottle holders in each of the doors; and a new roller blind for the driver’s door window.

Scania R-series takes the lead in comfort, and smart storage solutions that make life on the road easier and more enjoyable.

The Highline cab offers increased interior headroom, with additional stowage options as well as a completely new lower and optional upper bed concept, featuring pocket springs and ingenious extension mechanism.

The new, wider and more comfortable expandable 900mm lower bunk resets the standard for in-cab luxury.

The bed may be expanded by releasing a lever under the bed base and extending the mattress from 730mm to 900mm.

The bed can be expanded while the driver is seated on it and provides an exceptional good night’s sleep.

In addition to the more luxurious sleeping arrangements, the Scania Highline Cab has a high specification as standard and offers extra stowage space that has been added with two double shelf units set into the blanked-out side window alcove, conveniently located for the occupant of the new, enlarged lower bunk.

Additional storage alcoves are set into the roof above each door to hold small and medium sized articles, and easily within reach of the upper bunk.

There are two fully enclosed over windscreen cupboards, as well as large storage below the lower bunk accessed by lifting the bunk or by opening the exterior storage compartment doors, behind each cab door.

The Scania Highline cab has a large on-board refrigerator, stowed under the bunk with two drawers, with a 16 kg capacity.

Options available to Australian customers include a fold-out table in front of the passenger seat that can hold a laptop, or the driver’s evening meal. Luxurious black leather upholstery; and leather and real wood trim to the steering wheel to redefine style.

Make yourself at home – Redefining living.

The new bed range offers outstanding comfort, both with the new standard mattress – and the new and unique extendable bed.

The new R-series extendable bed is the benchmark in day and night comfort. It is easily adjusted up to 900mm of width and can be left extended whilst driving.

Distinctive, dynamic and sharper than ever, Scania sets a new standard in long-haulage truck design and technology. Its bold lines make a powerful, head-turning appearance wherever they go. Driving a Scania, you deserve the attention.

All Australian V8 powered long haul trucks are fitted with the spacious and luxurious Highline Cab when a V8 engine is specified. This is optionally available with 13 litre six cylinder models.

The distinctive frontal styling has more pronounced horizontal lines and a new vertical theme beginning at the window line and sculpted recess on the side running all the way to the bumper. This accentuates the flowing style and reinforces the Scania identity, boosted by a Scania logotype under the windscreen.

Redefining distinction on the road.

Scania external CaB Features

The wider more angular radiator grille bars serve to force more air into the engine compartment to enhance cooling capacity as well as manage the airflow around and through the engine bay more effectively and thus aerodynamics are improved.

Optional LED daytime running lights and Xenon headlights with high-pressure head-lamp cleaners are integrated in to the design.

All models feature front underrun protection hidden behind the lower bumper valance to provide a high degree of safety for other road users in the event of an impact.

Euro 5

Scania’s Euro 5 emission compliant engines are now available across the entire Scania range. These advanced technology engines are at the forefront of the industry and bring innovative emission reduction solutions to Australia.

A true legend in its own time.

Legend or not, the Scania V8 Euro 5 meets emission standards without compromise.

Fully loaded with productivity.

The heavier the haul and the higher the climb, the more the V8 range stands out as the icon of productivity in its purest form. Reliable day in and day out. Always on schedule and always with extra capacity on demand. Add to this outstanding fuel economy, and your operation is stronger than ever.

No wonder so many of our customers think that nothing gets close to a Scania V8.

New platform of six-cylinder engines

Scania’s new generation 13-litre six-cylinder engine provides outstanding fuel economy, low emissions and optimum durability and reliability. These high torque and low revving engines will use a new and patented two-stage Exhaust Gas Recirculation emission technology unique to Scania, which allows the engines to run solely on diesel without the need for additives.

Redefining emissions to the highest possible standards.

Inspired by this challenge, Scania engineers set out to optimise all aspects of perfor-mance and driving experience. The result is a new gearchanging intelligence that improves uphill driveability, fuel economy and driver comfort – as well as setting a new industry standard for precision manoeuvring.

Gearchanging will never be the same.

Scania Chassis

Scania chassis for long haulage applications meet demands and be sufficiently adaptable to handle applications. This is why Scania has developed its well known modular system, which has been continuously developed over the years to allow even better scope for adapting the truck to specific transport requirements. Scania can always offer a reliable and cost effective chassis, irrespective of load and operating conditions.

Airborne comfort.

Scania air suspension ensures that the driver, the cargo and the truck itself arrive in perfect condition. It gives a smooth and stable ride, together with automatic self-levelling. Air suspension also offers multiple possibilities for load handling. For example, it can give a gentle tilt angle for safe handling of heavy items. In addition, the total weight and individual axle weights can easily be verified at the touch of a button.

Scania Retarder

Redefining engineering excellence

Scania Brakes, ChassIs & suspensIon

Page 13: Brochure Scania Long Haul Australia

In addition to the standard wheel brake system, Scania offers its own hydraulic re-tarder integrated into the gearbox. The Scania Retarder is a highly efficient auxiliary braking system. Completely integrated with the service brakes and exhaust brake, it provides the ideal combination of braking functions, specialised in downhill speed control.

Retarder braking can be initiated with a dab on the brake pedal or with the lever on the steering column. The gap between the cruising speed and the downhill speed can be set in small steps using a button on the steering wheel. The retarder can be set to automatically work with the service brakes at all times, reducing service brake applications by up to 75 percent.

Scania Brake Systems

The full range of Scania engines offer out-standing torque and power by fully integrating the exhaust brake and retarder with the service brakes. Scania gives the driver a braking system that maximises control and minimises wear. This requires reliable design and very high quality components.

Disc brakes with EBS (Electric Brake System) are fitted as standard to Scania’s trucks. Brake Blending, and high brake temperature warnings are other functions that increase safety and reduce wear on the truck.

Scania’s brake system is characterised by modern technology, long life components and simple design. These factors contribute to low weight, ease of braking, safety and low maintenance costs.

Powered with precision.

Get Scania Fleet Management System on board and you’ll soon discover why thousands of companies around the world are enjoying better management solutions and reduced operating costs.

Better equipped, better operating costs

Scania Fleet Management System’s ‘black box’ records data on the operational performance of trucks while they’re on the move.

The black box, installed in each truck, transfers information to your office system via wireless links and the internet. It records data such as location, fuel usage, speed and acceleration to help highlight areas for improvement to help you run a smarter operation with better cost control.

Better safety, better security

Want to provide a more secure working environment and improve your fleet safety record? Scania Fleet Management System helps you achieve both.

The RIBAS virtual driver trainer monitors over revving, excessive idling, harsh braking, harsh acceleration and over speeding and notifies the driver when these occur, allowing immediate driving style improvements. Smoothing out driving, enhances driver comfort and safety. It also improves the safety of your load and longevity of your vehicle.

The system also improves safety for drivers by alerting the office when servicing is due, recording when a hazard light is activated and by providing an immobiliser that allows only authorised drivers to start the truck. It also monitors when a no-go zone has been entered and exactly where the truck is in real time.

Monitoring of this kind leads to safer driving and reduces accident rates. Not only does this make the driver’s workplace safer, but it can also improve the company’s claims history allowing you to negotiate better insurance premium and rates.
