MEASURING METHOD: UCI — Ultrasonic Contact Impedance A hardness testing method based on the measurement of the frequency shift of a resonating rod caused by the essentially elastic nature of the finite area of contact between the indenter and the test piece during the penetration. Described as a hardness testing practice using a calibrated instrument by pressing a resonating rod with a Vickers style Diamond indentor with a fixed force against the surface of the part to be tested. The PHASE II ultrasonic/dynamic portable hardness testers are capable of measuring the surface hardness of a broad variety of metals on flat, round, thin or large surfaces. Unlike the standard Dynamic hardness testers, these “state-of-the-art” portable hardness testers incorporate “Ultrasonic UCI” technology, which enables the hardness testing of very thin and small workpieces, which otherwise could not be tested accurately using a portable device. Non-destructive in it’s function, these hardness testers allow for the testing of highly sensitive or finished parts that previously could not be tested in an operational setting. The non-destructive (ndt) feature of these hardness testers allow the operator to accurately test parts without causing physical or structural damage that would normally lead to disposal or refinish of operators part. PHT-995 $350The Phase II Coating Hardness Tester is engineered to determine the resistanceof coatings to scratch effects on the surface. Utilizing the Wolff/Wilborn princi-ple, this coating hardness tester conforms to ASTM D 3363-05.

Pencils of various known hardness are dragged over the coating surface at afixed angle and fixed pressure. Beginning with the hardest lead, graduatingsofter, movements of .250” (6.5mm) will determine where the surface areais/is not being gouged or scratched.

Pencils can be changed easily via a knurled thumb screw on the side of theinstrument.

A set of 14 calibrated wood drawing pencils is included from 6B to 6H.

SRG-1000 $1,195The PHASE II SRG-1000 surface roughness tester is a pocket-sized economicallypriced instrument for measuring surface texture conforming to traceable standards. It can be used on the shop floor in any position, horizontal, vertical or anywhere inbetween.

The large LCD display shows either roughness parameter Ra or Rz at the touch of abutton, combined with the selected cutoff length. External calibration of theroughness values is possible by means of a special CAL button, which makesadjustment of this instrument very easy. A beep signal informs the user about eachindividual measurement status when ready.

The easy to use SRG-1000 operates on various surfaces, not only flat but also outercylinder, outer cone, grooves, and recesses greater than 80x 30mm. The areas ofapplication are wide spread. It is suitable for inspection departments, qualitycontrol, on the shop floor during machining, during assembly, and on site.

The SRG-1000 determines both roughnessparameters Ra and Rz within a wide measuringrange. The piezo-electric pick-up stylus withdiamond tip assures a very reliable measurementwithin tolerances that conform to ISO Standards &DIN Standards. Roughness parameter Ra iscomputed to conform to ISO Standards and Rz iscomputed to conform to DIN Standards.

• Eliminates high maintenance and calibration costs

Fast and On-Line Capable• Single measurements in a fraction of a second

• measure moving surfaces with high precision

• Multiple input trigger and output monitor options

Reliable• Superior repeatability for dependable results

• Runs for years without performance degradation

The Perfect Manufacturing Floor SolutionLasercheck is specifically designed for portable or on-line use in produc-tion and manufacturing environments. Patented “light scatter” detectiontechnology provides superior durability, measurement speed, and repeata-bility to any competing surface finish technology.

Monitor the ProcessOperators on the production floor can use Lasercheck to easily and quickly checkproducts ensuring the process and quality is in control. Lasercheck providesimmediate testing of surfaces without concern for damage to fragile measurement equipment or surfaces.

Save maintenance Time and CostLasercheck allows more practical use of fragile stylus & optical profilers. These analytical devices can be be better protected in labs performing QC audit &process development measurements while Lasercheck performs high volumemanufacturing QC work. Using technology where it is best suited provides maximum benefit.

Principal Operation• Detectors inside measurement head measures distribution of specular &

scattered laster light reflected to the surface

• Increased roughness creates less specular & more scattered laser light reflection to be measured

• Electronics and software in controller digitize signals from detectors and calculate Ra (Average) surface roughness
