Name: Ludo VerlindenPositioN: Site ManagerBackgrouNd: After gaining my university preparatory degree, I studied Civil Engineering (HBO) at HU University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. I then developed my practical experience and knowledge in a range of projects: frost damage repair on the asphalt of various provincial and national motorways in Zuid-Holland, a number of smaller-scale RAW1 projects, the renovation of the Beek A2 Arch Bridge, the realisation of the Electrabel power plant at Maasvlakte, the construction of the new infrastructure at Maasvlakte 2 and the realisation of the RWG Container Terminal at Maasvlakte 2.exPertise: I specialise in integrated contract formats (D&C, DBFM) for the public and private sectors, with a strong focus on execution and project management. What do you attach Particular value to: Team performance. Working closely together in a group effort, with the ‘team’ acting as a unified collective in which each individual member maximises his or her potential and complements the ‘team’ as required. I enjoy seeing this process in the realisation of a project as much as I do on the football pitch.PassioN: To motivate and encourage all parties involved – from the client and the suppliers to the guys working at the site – to put in a dedicated joint effort to achieve the same objective. If we succeed in this, everyone can look back on the job done with pride and pleasure. In my free time, I enjoy hobbies like football, riding my motorbike, going out with friends and doing work around the house.challeNge: Multidisciplinary collaboration within projects. The diversity of activities undertaken from a variety of disciplines within such projects creates extra complexity. Within each new situation, this creates different challenges, which need to be handled on a case-by-case basis.

ForewordCreating, innovating, implementing and providing support in civil engineering works – that’s what KWS Infra stands for.In fact, we have been a leading contractor of infrastructural construction projects for over 100 years. And we’re proud of our reputation!

Clients – from Rijkswaterstaat to Provinces and Municipalities, public and private – know us as asphalt specialist, earth works contractor, bridge specialist and as experts in laying sewers and paving. And increasingly, we are recognised as an innovator and integral partner, capable of looking beyond the boundaries of traditional road building.

We believe in regional involvement and direct communication with you as the client. We are therefore based in 9 regional locations.

We are proud of the high profile and successful projects we have managed for and together with our clients. Examples are strengthening steel bridge decks with High Strength Concrete (HSC), the renovation of 8 steel bridges over the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal and construction of the entire infrastructure for the 2nd Maasvlakte with partners.

Integrated contract forms like Design & Construct and integral cooperation in multidisciplinary projects are emerging. Supported by innovations like System Engineering and Lean Management, we implement these projects. We have the experience and we are ready to support you!

As the director, I am pleased to present you with this brochure and tell you something about our company, our way of working, our projects and above all our people. Because creating, innovating, implementing and providing support primarily involves working with people.

Rob de Ruijter

Name: Rob de RuijterPositioN: DirectorBackgrouNd: I actually started out as a computer programmer, in the early days of IT. Later on, I obtained my flying licence, after which I wanted to start working as a pilot. I quit this path due to a problem with my eyes. I then decided to study Civil Engineering. Over the past 15 years, I worked as a project director on the Betuwe Route, and it is already a decade since I started as a Director at KWS Infra Zwijndrecht, Rozenburg and Timmer-Verzijl. In my free time, I like to play tennis, ride my ATB and, in the winter, to ski. I also enjoy working in the garden. exPertise aNd PassioN: I have a lot of knowledge in the field of civil engineering. In this sector, I enjoy being an entrepreneur in the broadest sense of the word. Being able to judge people is indispensable in this context. What’s more: it’s fun to be the ‘grease between the wheels’ – which also involves being able to quickly take a decision. What do you attach Particular value to: Always stand by your agreements.challeNge: I enjoy it when young people within our

company are able to grow into the new decision-makers. Indeed, training is one of my core tasks. On the other hand, I always

enjoy the challenge of solving a complex problem.

Creating, innovating, implementing and providing

support primarily involves working with people.

Name: Ard KortlevePositioN: Job PlannerBackgrouNd: After I received my HAVO diploma, I completed my vocational training (MBO) in Civil Engineering Execution. At my previous employer, I gained some seven years of work experience as a crane operator and excavator. After joining KWS Infra, I started as a foreman excavator in the ‘De Hoven’ project in Dordrecht. I ultimately ended up in production planning. Over the past few years, I have gained a lot of experience in this area.exPertise: Production planning (calculations and job preparation) and project management. What do you attach Particular value to: Commitment, motivation and mind-set. Without the right mind-set, you become the weakest link within the team. This applies to both my work and my own hobbies.PassioN: To do the best job I can within every project I work on. To ‘master’ things I am unfamiliar with. At home, I try to spend as much time as possible with my girlfriend and my daughter. In addition, I do a lot of sport: football, cycling and ice-skating. I help out at a number of clubs: both football (VV de Alblas) and the local ice-skating club (IJsclub Oud-Alblas).challeNge: To work together with a motivated team to round off every project – be it a container terminal or a farmstead – to the full satisfaction of both the client and KWS Infra.

“We are capable of looking beyond the boundaries of

traditional road building.”

BasesWith bases in Zwijndrecht and Rozenburg, KWS Infra is

positioned in the heart of the South-Holland South region. Our

regional involvement is apparent from the fact that 80% of our

projects are carried out in this region.

Our organisation consists of several units, each with its own

field of expertise, own project management and permanent

employees. As our client, you have a regular point of contact in

your environment.

Our goal is to rapidly respond to client needs – using our

extensive knowledge of local conditions, environmental factors,

agreements and regulations.

We are close to our clients Regardless of variations in types of tender, in all cases the client

is our focus. Our experience is that the sooner we are involved in

a project, the more scope there is for practical and cost efficient

solutions.

In other words: good advice and the input of our expertise in

the preliminary process produce a realistic and customised

design, which will be expertly implemented to fulfil your wishes

and expectations. Not surprisingly, ‘receiving support’ is

currently high on the agenda of many clients. That doesn’t mean

that we can work alone. Good cooperation, including extensive

and good contact with clients are our priority.

Quality and safety assuranceWe have been awarded the Safety Certificate for Contractors

(VCA**, VCA Petrochemical Industry and the branch-related

information rail infrastructure). We also closely monitor

whether our employees have all the necessary personal

diplomas and training. You can expect nothing less from a

professional builder. Safety is another important priority.

For us, safety is a non-negotiable part of the project.

We do it safely or not at all!

“We have been a leading contractor of infrastructural con-

struction projects in the Netherlands for over 100 years.”

Name: Miranda Valk-RoukensPositioN: SecretaryBackgrouNd: After gaining my secretary diploma in 2005, I started my first full-time job at a travel organisation in Dordrecht. In 2006, I successfully applied for the position of telephone receptionist at KWS Infra. Within less than a year, they allowed me to start working as a secretary here.exPertise: I specialise in organisational support and am good at planning and organising. As a colleague, I’m involved and supportive. What do you attach Particular value to: No matter how much you enjoy your job, I would hate

going to work every day if I didn’t have a good relationship with my colleagues.PassioN: To be the ‘spider in the web’. A desire to learn something new every day. This also applies

to my hobbies: horse-riding and photography. What I enjoy most is walking the dog and cooking for my husband. I’m not much of a shopaholic.

challeNge: To become even better at my job and all the associated tasks.

“Reliability and building mutual trust is an important

priority within our company.”

Name: Wouter de LoosPositioN: ManagerBackgrouNd: I started working at KWS Infra after earning a Civil Engineering degree at Delft University of Technology. After several years getting to know the company within a range of positions and projects, I moved up to the position of Manager.exPertise: What all the projects I have worked on for KWS Infra over the past few years have in common is their multidisciplinary nature. We not only execute the associated work, we also handle the design in-house (Design & Construct). In many cases, they are ‘special projects’ for KWS Infra – the complete overhaul of a steel bridge, for example, or the construction of a new concrete pumping station in a working cooling water reservoir. What do you attach Particular value to: Since a growing number of projects involve combining a variety of disciplines, collaboration with both our clients and partners has become increasingly important. By working closely together with other companies in the VolkerWessels group, there is no project we can’t handle. Such projects are based less and less on a main contractor/sub-contractor arrangement. Instead, we move forward together, as partners.PassioN: To quickly communicate and coordinate together with my team in a dynamic, constantly changing environment – and adjust course where necessary, to ensure that we ultimately achieve all the set project targets. Each work day is different – which is actually what makes this job so much fun.challeNge: To think in terms of solutions. Whatever the problem is, we can always come up with a good, practical solution.

Our people determine our success Civil engineering involves people. Our people determine

the success of your projects. They represent our company.

We are proud that our organisation boasts such a high

level of commitment. The majority of our employees

have worked for KWS Infra for many years.

All our employees, from calculator to foreman, are

confronted with rapid new developments, both in

technology and in contract and project approaches.

That requires on-going training, which is something

which has our express attention.

The right attitudeBesides quality policy, safety measures and training,

a good attitude from our employees is very important.

Integrity in your work, engaging with clients and

colleagues and being open to developments and changes

to your own role. Furthermore, reliability and building

mutual trust is an important priority within our company.

This helps us build up and maintain relationships with our

clients. But above all: we are ready to help you 24 hours

a day, 365 days a year.

Innovation as a driving force By identifying, developing and implementing innovative solutions, we regularly stick our neck out at KWS Infra. Not only in

response to market demands but also on our initiative – with an eye for future developments and social responsibility.

Introducing our range of in-house expertise

A number of information sheets are included in this brochure. Each sheet provides further details about an interesting

project, a specialist product or a characteristic project approach. This gives you a good idea of how KWS Infra creates,

innovates, implements and supports. An initial or further introduction which we will be happy to follow up on in person.
