Our award-winning TSI technology offers you great performance with fuel

economy and low emissions. When you drive one of our TSI cars you don’t have

to choose between performance and economy. TSI engines offer an enjoyable

and involving drive, while cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Because TSI engines are cleaner, you’ll also save on car tax. So they have a

smaller impact on the environment, are kinder to your pocket - and, best of all,

they’re great fun to drive.

Surprisingly powerfullittle engine.More power, less fuel.

Once upon a time, everything was easier. Big engines were powerful and small

engines were less powerful. Displacement was the key, as petrol-engined cars

usually needed big normally aspirated engines for effortless performance with

high torque and brisk acceleration through the gears.

“Nothing beats cubic capacity – except more cubic capacity” was an

unwritten law of technology for many years, at least where production models

were concerned. If you wanted more performance, you had to buy a model

with more power or better still a bigger car. But greater size and performance

almost invariably meant higher fuel consumption.

Until a few years ago, car-buyers faced a fundamental choice: they were

forced to opt for good performance or reasonable fuel economy. Today, you

can have both. All it takes is the right technology under the bonnet. Then you

get higher performance and lower consumption.

People still like to talk about engine displacement, although as a metric it is

really a thing of the past. What counts today is pressure – boost pressure to

be more precise. Boost pressure is the factor that extracts high power and

high torque from small engines, while at the same time making for low fuel

consumption.

The Environmental Commendation

Our Environmental Commendations for new vehicle models

and technologies highlight environmental progress compared

with predecessor models and previous technologies. We use

Environmental Commendations to inform our customers, our

shareholders and other stakeholders within and outside the

company how we are making our products and production

processes more environmentally compatible and what we have

achieved in this respect. The underlying Life Cycle Assessment

(LCA) not only covers the time when a TSI engine is in use but

its entire life cycle from production through to use and

disposal. This reflects the fact that we assume responsibility for

the entire supply chain, including the producers of raw

materials and parts for our products. We engage in dialogue

with our suppliers to identify environmental measures that

can be taken. We also provide training, enter into stepping

up the pressure Once upon a time, everything was easier. Big

Cycle Assessments. This Environmental Commendation also

indicates the impact of fuel production and product disposal

on the environment. The information in this Environmental

Commendation is based on a Life Cycle Assessment of the TSI

engine which has been verified and certified by the

technical inspection organization TÜV NORD. The TÜV

certificate confirms that the Life Cycle Assessment is based on

reliable data and that the methods used to compile it comply

with the requirements of ISO standards 14040 and 14044. You

will find further information on the Internet at www.environ-

the Environmental Commendation for the TSI engine, which

With its strong bodylines, flowing contours and aerodynamic design, the Golf is more refined and stylish than ever,

while details such as the double radiator grille and sleek contoured headlights enhance its sporting appeal.

Exuding quality and charisma from every angle, the Golf has character all of its own, its flawless exterior hinting at

the superior workmanship within.

The ribs of the radiator grille have chrome inserts and are a distinctive hallmark of the Golf. They have a black, high-gloss

piano lacquer look, complementing the stylish appearance with a touch of sporty elegance.

Body-coloured door mirrors with

integrated indicators not only draw

attention to the body styling, but are

also highly visible to other road

users and help to reduce wind noise

through improved aerodynamics.

The Golf illuminates the darkness

with standard halogen headlights

with integrated daylight driving

light. This light is switched on

automatically by the dipped beam

when the engine is started.

The striking ‘Cherry red’ rear light

clusters enhance the rear design and

blend perfectly into the

bodywork.

The exclusive Highline specification features a truly sumptuous interior. For starters, the front sports seats with height

and lumbar adjustment are covered in high quality Alcantara/Dropmag upholstery on the centre sections. The three-spoke

multifunction steering wheel is finished in luxurious leather trim, while the front centre armrest with storage

compartment adds an extra touch of comfort. Both the radio system and the Highline multifunction computer can be

controlled via the intuitive new multifunction steering wheel.

The front centre armrest with

spacious storage compartment and

The two whiplash-optimised front

head restraints not only ensure

additional comfort, but also provide

particularly effective support for

the head and spine in the event of a

collision.

By building on the safety standards achieved with previous generation

Volkswagens, the sixth generation Golf features a range of all-round safety

precautions offering maximum protection in any eventuality, once more

setting the standards for others to follow.

Surprisingly, Golf is the safest car in the world.Europe NCAP 5 stars.

For the first time on a Volkswagen, the Golf is also fitted with a driver’s knee airbag for added protection, particularly in

the event of a head-on collision.

14 – The Golf TSI

Page 15: Brochure Golf Tsi

Both driver and passengers can rely on a comprehensive airbag system comprising driver’s and front passenger’s airbags

with front passenger’s deactivation switch and a curtain airbag system with front seat side impact airbags for the driver

and front passenger. Deployment of the airbags is activated by crash sensors. When an impact is registered, the airbag

control unit ignites the gas generator, which then inflates the airbag within less than 40 milliseconds, helping to reduce

injuries signifi cantly.

The Electronic Stabilization

Program (ESP) is prevented in

Three-point seat belts, belt ten-

sion limiters, belt tensioners, head

restraints and airbags should always

be seen as a single functioning unit.

The best possible level of protection

can only be achieved if all of them

work together.

The 7-speed dual clutch gearbox by

Volkswagen.

Surprisingly, Golf is setting the benchmark once again.Born with experience.

The dual clutch Direct Shift Gearbox – DSG represents a milestone in the development of the latest gearbox technology.

This innovative automatic gearbox shifts smoothly and imperceptibly into the pre-selected next gear, within a split second.

Such extremely short reaction times and direct response behaviour means that dynamic acceleration is now twice as much

fun. Now also features an auto hold function which prevents your Golf from rolling back when pulling away on a slope or

during a hill start.

Oversteer Understeer

Conventional Conventionalwith ESP with ESP

New generation of ESP TechnologyThe term “oversteer” means that

the rear of the vehicle breaks away,

“understeering” denotes the effect

of the vehicle continuing straight

ahead, despite the front wheels

being turned. ESP prevents both

from happening.

McPherson Strut suspension is

a particular from of independent

suspension used on the front axle

of a vehicle. The functions of the

suspension strut are to cushion the

vehicle, to limit bounce, to damp

oscillation, to hold the

suspension strut mount

connecting to the body, and to

transmit the steering motion. The

use of light-weight, high-strength

material reduces the unsprung

masses, thereby enhancing

Performance and ride comfort.

The electromechanical power

steering is a speed-sensitive

electrical power-assisted

steering system which is only

activated when needed and does

without any hydraulic components.

Compared to hydraulic power

steering, vehicle fitted with

electromechanical power steering

benefit from lower fuel consumption

and new convenience and safety.
