ADMISSION & ENROLLMENTApplicants for the Global Design Degree program must meet NewSchool of Architecture & Design admission requirements, which include a High School diploma or comparable academic achievement, minimum GPA levels, statement of purpose and English language proficiency.The intake for the Global Design Degree program occurs annually in October and adheres to NewSchool’s quarter-based academic term.

The student services team will provide enrolled students with the necessary support to apply for student visas.

The Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool offers undergraduate degrees like no other: an immersive, hands-on experience in European and American design. You’ll learn the Italian design approach in Milan, the world capital of design. And in San Diego, California, you’ll examine the influence of contemporary design on technology, lifestyle, and sustainability.

The Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool is a unique partnership between NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego and Domus Academy in Milan. It’s a collaboration that brings together Old World and New World design methodologies into exciting, innovative Bachelor of Interior Architecture & Design and Bachelor of Arts in Product Design.

You’ll spend two years in Italy and two years in the United States. In both locations, you’ll take courses taught by industry experts to build your theoretical foundation. In workshops, you’ll apply your classroom knowledge as you create actual projects with real companies.

Internships will give you an inside perspective on how your field really works. Upon completion of the degree program, you will earn a degree from NewSchool of Architecture & Design, a WSCUC *- accredited institution, and a diploma from Domus Academy in Milan.

So much more than a typical bachelor’s degree, this truly global experience will open more doors—to your own creativity, to career possibilities, and to the world. BACHELOR OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN Are you inspired to solve the design challenges of everyday life? In this program, you can begin to design interior spaces that are both beautiful and functional. You will learn to identify, analyze, and find answers to interior design problems as you work on real-world studio projects. By collaborating in teams with your multicultural classmates, you will broaden your approach to design and prepare for your own professional design practice. You’ll take an interdisciplinary, human-centered approach to design solutions that support a diverse customer base. You’ll explore how to create sustainable, environmentally sound interior environments that improve occupants’ quality of life.

BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PRODUCT DESIGNEqual parts insight, ingenuity, and intuition go into making a well-designed product. In this program, you’ll explore product design concepts across a range of disciplines, cultures, and industries. And you’ll begin to develop innovative design solutions for both community and industrial needs.In coursework, you’ll investigate the techniques, tools, and processes of product design so you can learn to distill the best solution from multiple possibilities. You’ll study the research methodologies that will help you analyze emerging market needs for new product systems. In hands-on workshops, you’ll learn by designing. As you work on intensive assignments, you will build prototypes, select materials, and explore evolutions in manufacturing and production. Collaborating in multicultural teams will help you develop skills in leadership and cooperation.

MILAN: DESIGN TRADITIONThere is no better place to pursue a truly superb design education than Milan, where you’ll be immersed in a stimulating artistic culture and a thriving commercial design industry. You’ll have opportunities to meet some of Italy’s finest artisans and designers, and you’ll visit production and manufacturing facilities responsible for renowned Made in Italy craftsmanship. Finally, you will have the chance to explore streets lined with the most important flagship stores of design, like Cappellini, Driade, and Kartell.
