LEAF is the Lansing EducationalAdvancement Foundation that was establishedin October of 1984 as an autonomous non-prot,tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. LEAF wasdesigned to secure, manage, and distribute
resources for the purpose of enriching theeducational experience for all Lansing studentsthrough program support and curriculumenhancement.
Checks can be made payable to LEAFwith Otsu Delegation in the notation.

How Participants Are Chosen
Diplomat Sponsorship - $500Pays a portion of the airfare for one student
Global Visionary Sponsorship -$1,000Provides 10, 2 hour Japanese Language / Culture
classes for all participants
Goodwill Ambassador Sponsorship - $2,000Provides airfare and the opportunity of a lifetime to
one deserving Lansing middle school student
Global Citizen Sponsorship - $6,000Provides airfare and the opportunity of a lifetime tothree deserving Lansing middle school students
The city of Otsu, Lansings longest-standingsister-city, will provide housing, food,and transportation for the students once theyhave arrived in Japan. However, studentsand chaperones must purchase their owninternational ights and other necessary coststo prepare for the trip. In order to offer thisopportunity to as many students as possible,the school district is asking for support fromthe community.
It is a goal of the Lansing SchoolDistrict to create citizens
of the world by providing uniqueeducational opportunities abroad.This year the school district ishonored to announce that cityofcials from Otsu, Japan, haveinvited 12 middle school studentsand 3 chaperones to visit their city in
November 2012.
CreateGlobal Citizens
Students must participate in a rigorousapplication process in order to serve as agoodwill ambassador to Otsu, Japan. Eachapplicant must complete a detailed applicationform, submit two letters of recommendation,complete an in-school essay about why theywould like to serve as a goodwill ambassadorto Japan, and participate in an interview bya panel of school and community members. A
nal selection committee will meet in March2012 to select the nal representative group ofstudents.
