    Design

Te oil coolers are designed andmanufactured in our Research &Production Centre based in Meyzieu

(near Lyon). Te facility housesthe most modern and advancedproduction processes:

    Laser cuttingWelding robotsAutomated paint lines...

Te oil coolers are exclusively adaptedto cooling the oil used in powertransformers. Tey are designed to run

under the most stringent operatingconditions:emperatureCorrosive atmospheresDust, sand, rain and snow.

    Description

    1 - Tube stacks

    Our finned tubes, without inner

tubulators, are made of eitheraluminium or copper, depending onthe corrosion risk.

    Pressure rating:+ 350,000 Pa absolute

    Depression rating:+ 100 Pa absolute

Te tubes are roller expanded on athick steel tube plate (15 or 20 mm).

    Internal cleanliness

After expansion the inside of each tubeis visually inspected. After the tightness

test (described below), the oil cooler isrinsed with filtered transformer oil at65C, circulating at high speed for20 minutes. Te input and outputpipes of the oil cooler are thenhermetically sealed.

Tightness testEach oil cooler undergoes a tightnesstest with hot transformer oil (65C)circulating for 3 hours at a pressure of300,000 Pa absolute.

2 - ManifoldsMade of steel, they can be bolted or

welded to the tube plate with a boltedcover. Sealing is provided with a nitrileseal.

    3 - Hook-upTe inlet/outlet pipes are fastened withflanges.

    4 - Air supply plenum

Te air supply plenum consists of twothick sheet side-members that connectthe tube plates, and a fan supportsheet. Spring washers on the plate/side-member attachments allow thestacks to expand.

    5 - Axial fan

Tis fan, which is part of our Axipal

BZI line, ensures the lowest soundlevels and high effi ciency. Te casing, which forms a bell mouth for suctionand a diffuser for blowing, minimizespressure drops. Te blower wire guardis compliant with international safetystandards.

    MotorsCompliant with internationalstandards:

foot mounted, aluminium frame,IP 55, class F, drain hole at low point.

Tey are electrically isolated from the

    fan casing.

    6 - Filter wire guard

    7 - Electricalconnection box

Metal box compliant withinternational standards (IP 55sealing). It receives the cables fromthe fan motors (and in some casesfrom the pump). It is equipped withterminal strips and stuffi ng glands forconnection of the power cables.

    Oil cooler

On the selection charts, dissipated power P40 (kW) is given as a function of the oil flow Q (m3/h) (figures 1 and 2).

Dissipated powerTe dissipated power is given for an ambientair temperature of 30C and an atmosphericpressure of 760 mm HG.

Te mean oil temperature rise () used in thecalculation is 40K.

If the mean oil temperature rise is different( = ), the new dissipated power P of the oilcooler is as follows:P = P40 + k ( - 40).k is a coeffi cient that is specific to each coolant. Its value is given in the table in figure 4.

Te selection charts allow you to select the oilcooler to perfectly suit your needs.

    Motor-driven fans

Te oil coolers proposed are equipped with 2 or3 motor-driven fans whose rotational speed is720 rpm with a 50 Hz/8-pole motor or a60 Hz/10-pole motor. Te characteristics of eachmotor-driven fan are presented in the table infigure 4.

    Oil inlet/outlet

Te oil coolers proposed are designed for 1 or 3oil passages inside the tube stacks. Te oil inletand outlet can then be positioned, on request, onthe respective manifolds.Note: for oil coolers with 3 oil passages, theymust be positioned symmetrically relative to axis1 (see figure 3).

Oil cooler fasteningTe oil cooler can be operated horizontally orvertically. Te supporting devices are definedaccording to demand.

    Pump

    o be selected on demand.

Mechanical characteristicsFor each oil cooler, the oil capacity, weight(without oil) and main dimensions are shown inthe table in figure 4.

    Acoustics

Te sound power level Lwt is mentioned for eachoil cooler in the table in Figure 4. It is either 81dB(A) or 84 dB(A), depending on the number of

fans (2 or 3) in the oil cooler.

    Acoustic pressure level as

    per IEC 551

Acoustic pressure level at 2 meters, as perIEC 551, is defined as follows:Lp2m (dB(A)) = Lwt - 10 log SS = effective area calculated as per IEC 551.

Mobile power stationsOn request, a specific design is proposed to

withstand the shocks and vibrations due toinstallation on board of a wagon on a roadtrailer.
