For more than 40 years we have specialised in dwarf bulbs. While most of our daffodils are vigorous

enough to take the rough and tumble of the open garden some of the tiniest gems are best given a little more protection, especially as many originate in the dry south of Spain. These we grow in pots in a tunnel and this year the spectacular display was only surpassed by the overwhelming scent – most are jonquils. Although they look delicate they are in fact easy and rewarding pot plants for cold glass – just requiring a dry summer dormancy to perform their annual miracle. Some will grow outside given optimum conditions. We have included a lot more this year: Idol, cordubensis, wilkomii etc.

Other exciting introductions are the rare white Sternbergia candida (page 5) and the extraordinary new Muscari Bling Bling with its glistening jewel like flowers of intense blue (page 18). I love cutting flowers for the house and have decided to include some of my favourites- 2 excellent Anemone de caen - bicolor (white) & Bordeaux (vintage claret) and

some wonderful Dutch Iris (Silvery Blue and White van Vliet). Both are equally good for garden display. Other favourites to cut are tulips– their wayward contortions never fail to enchant. Although many of the tulips in the borders are replaced annually some have proved themselves to be very long lived, especially the fosteriana cultivars. Purissima (page 34) needs no introduction, repeating well, but every spring a lovely salmon pink cultivar delights us. For years we called it the super market tulip as we could never remember its name - Albert

Heijn ( see page 34).

Our front cover features a bulb we have long advocated. There can be few bulbs that are as exuberant as the Ipheion ( page 16) but these S Americans are surprisingly little known. They are perfect for a dry sunny border – even growing in gravel, or they can be massed in pots. They make a good edging mixed with grape hyacinths. They are honey scented and can be cut as the perfect foil for small daffs.

TERMS OF BUSINESSThe placing of an order implies acceptance of the terms of sale, delivery and warranty shown in this list.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ORDERS. Due to the high costs involved, we regret we are unable to acknowledge orders except where an item is unavailable or when accompanied by a s.a.e.

DESPATCH DATES. Unless we are particularly requested to meet a specific deadline, we despatch ‘Summer’ orders starting in the last week of August; ‘Autumn’ orders starting in mid September. Certain items marked ● are not available until October. Other items on orders containing these will be delayed until then. If separate despatch is required please treat as two separate orders. In all cases, we despatch in strict rotation according to the date of receipt, and continue until all orders are despatched: it is there fore to your advantage to order as soon as possible after the receipt of this catalogue.

DESPATCH CHARGE. This is levied on actual value of bulbs despatched to one address in one parcel. All parcels must be signed for. If you are liable to be out please give us an alternative address - work, neighbour etc., or a safe place to leave the parcel.

● Central UK; £5.90 will be added.● Scotland (Highlands & Islands) N Ireland & other off shore islands; Please ask as it depends upon the weight of the parcel. Please phone for quotation if required.

MINIMUM ORDER. Although there is no order too small for us to handle, we regret that rising costs make it prohibitive to sell less than the minimum number printed beside each bulb in the catalogue, nor do we offer 5 at half the price of 10, 15 at half the price of 30 etc.

METHOD OF PAYMENT. Payment may be made by cheque (payable to Broadleigh Gardens). Postal Order, Cash, our own Gift Tokens (we regret we cannot accept National Garden Gift Tokens), also our own Credit Notes. Please return Credit Note or quote the number when claiming. Mastercard/Visa and Debit Cards: we can accept payment by these; please fill in the section on the order form. Orders can be telephoned using our 24-hour Answerphone and quoting account numbers etc.

ONLINE STORE. Our online store is the easiest way to order and uses the secure Barclaycard payment site.

COMPLAINTS. Should there be any cause for complaint, please write within seven days of receipt of the package. We cannot guarantee flowering, which depends on horticultural conditions, but we believe that all bulbs and plants despatched by us are fine, healthy stock.

COLLECTION OF ORDERS. Orders may be collected only if prior notice is given and collection made between 9-a.m. and 4-p.m. Monday to Friday. The Nursery is not open at weekends.

SUBSTITUTIONS. It is really impossible to forecast exactly what customers will wish to buy and so ensure adequate stocks of everything. We do our best as we wish to give absolute satisfaction, but we reserve the right to vary the items in Collections at any time.

VALUE ADDED TAX. This is included at the rate of 20% in all prices quoted in this catalogue. Should the rate change during its life, we reserve the right to alter our prices.
