In the two teamsonly meeting, at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock, Michigan in 2017 the LumberKings lost a three-game series, 1-2. The LumberKings trail the all-time series, dating back to 1994, 57 to 87. Since Clinton has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners (2009) they trail the head-to-head matchups 14 games to 16. LumberKings Starter: Tommy Romero, 20, makes his sixth start of the season for the LumberKings. The righty is coming off his worst start of the season. He last faced the Bowling Green Hot Rods as Ashford University Field on Wednesday afternoon and lasted just two innings, the second shortest start of his professional career. The issue for Romero was a first inning in which the Hot Rods batted around to score three runs. When the outing was over Romero was hung with his second loss of the season after allowing four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out four. Bowling Green start aside, Romero has been the staff ace for Clinton through the first month of the season. He comes into this start with the second highest strikeout per nine innings ratio, 12.13, in the Midwest League. The Seattle Mariners took Romero in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and came into the 2018 season as the 25th ranked prospect in the Seattle Mariners system according to Baseball America. Whitecaps Starter: Garrett King, 21, makes his fifth start of the season for the West Michigan Whitecaps. He took a no decision his last time out for West Michigan. He worked six innings allowing three runs, two earned, on a season high seven hits while walking one and striking out eight. King has struck out eight batters in three out of his first four starts. He original began his collegiate career pitching at Nebraska where he made the Big 10 All-Freshman Team but transferred to D-II powerhouse California Baptist. His curveball is what he describes as his go to pitch working off of strong fastball command. In addition, King throws a slider and is developing a split changeup. He was originally drafted out of high school by the New York Mets but chose not to sign stating he was not ready for minor league baseball physically or mentally.The Detroit Tigers then selected him in the 11 th round of the 2017 MLB draft Last Time Out: The Clinton LumberKings came back three times on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field to drop the Dayton Dragons 9-8. Jack Larsen lined the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth over the wall in right for a walk-off home run, snapping a season high five-game losing streak. Dayton (15-12) held three separate leads on the LumberKings (15-11). In the top of the first the Dragons scored the first run of the game on an RBI single from Stuart Fairchild, taking a 1-0 lead. Clinton answered the run in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Ryan Costello. Costello went 3-for-4 for the LumberKings, driving in four and slugging his fourth home run of the season. Scott Boches worked two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to settle the game for LumberKings pitching and turned things over to Sam Delaplane in the top of the ninth. Delaplane (2-0) worked a scoreless ninth setting down the Dragons with three strikeouts and worked around a one out single. In the bottom of the ninth, Jack Larsen lined the first pitch of the frame from Sarkis Ohanian (1-1) over the wall in right for his fourth home run of the season and the LumberKings first walk-off win. Walk it Off: Jack Larsen did not wait arounf in the bottom of the ninth. The LumberKins outfielder lined the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth on Sunday at Ashford University Field over the wall in right for a walk-off home run. The homer ended a season-high five game losing streak and was the first walk-off hit for the LumberKings this season. Tape Measure: Ryan Costello slugged his fourth home run of the season for the LumberKings in their 9-8 come from behind win on Sunday afternoon. The home run was his first to not come at the expense of the Beloit Snappers and was estimated to have traveled 461 feet, the longest home run measured at Ashford University Field this season. Comeback Kids: It took the most persistent comeback effort of the season, but the LumberKings came from behind to drop the Dayton Dragons 9-8 in walk-off fashion. The Dragons held three separate leads in Sundays game; leading 1-0 after a run scored in the top of the first, leading 4-1 after a three-run rally in the top of the third, and leading 8-4 after scoring four unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings. It marked the first time in 2018 that the LumberKings came from behind in three separate occasions. Roster Move Galore: The LumberKings nearly made it through the month of April without a roster move and were the last team in the Midwest League to make their first transaction of the season. In the opening week of May, the LumberKings have made three roster moves, adding another before the start of their three-game series in West Michigan. In a move to relieve a taxed bullpen, Adonis De La Cruz was assigned to Extended Spring Training with right-handed pitcher, and 2017 LumberKing, Tyler Watson being assigned to Clinton. Back In First?: Despite starting the month of May 1-for-5 the LumberKings, with the win on Sunday, have moved back into a tie for first place. Their 15-11 record has them tied in games back for first place with the Quad Cities River Bandits, and Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Kernels still own the highest winning percentage in the division but have played the fewest games in the Midwest League. This date in baseball history: On this date in 2010, Jamie Moyer becomes the oldest pitcher in major league history to throw a shutout when he blanks Atlanta, 7-0, and the first to accomplish the feat in four different decades. The Phillies right-hander, who is 47 years and 170 days, easily surpasses the previous record established by Indian hurler Phil Niekro, who shut out the Blue Jays in 1985 at the age of 46 years and 188 days. Today’s Preview: The Clinton LumberKings (A, Mariners) meet the West Michigan Whitecaps (A, Tigers) for
