Učbenik je namenjen 1. letniku študijskega programa Medjezikovno posredovanje, torej študentom, ki se ne posvečajo v prvi vrsti študiju literature, temveč jih zanima britanska kultura na splošno. Podaja pregled temeljnih literarnih besedil in avtorjev z Otoka od 7. stoletja naprej in umešča osrednje avtorje in avtorice v literarni, zgodovinski in kulturni kontekst britanske družbe. The book offers a brief review of Old English literature, the Middle English period and Geoffrey Chaucer, the English Renaissance, in particular Elizabethan and Jacobean drama, the Metaphysical Poets, the work of John Milton, Restoration drama, English Classicism including Alexander Pope, the 18th- and 19th- century novel including Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters as well as the Romantic poets William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats.
