Schools / Education Project Experience

The new Southport Special School building consisted of eighteen general learnings areas spread over two levels.

Due to the nature of the building, features were provided that were to enhance access and learning for the students with disabilities. The building was provided with a “Changing Places” places facility.

Changing places are provided to assist people with severe disabilities that cannot use standard accessible toilet. Additional features include adult sized changing tables, ceiling hoist and sufficient space for two assistants.

Other key aspects of the project including constructing the building amongst other existing buildings on the site. This provided challenges for fire resisting construction and providing access for people with disability.
