This year’s Oktoberfest is
well and truly behind us
and it was still a success
despite the low number
of visitors. I would like
to take the opportunity
to thank all the
volunteers and staff for
their dedication and help
during the last 12
months. Without your
contributions over the
year it would not have
been the success so far.
Thank you to everyone
who made the effort to
support the Club
throughout the last 12
months as well.
The Melbourne Cup on
Tuesday 7 November
was also great. I loved
watching the Hat Parade
and watching the race
itself on the big screen.
On Sunday 3 December
at 2pm, the choir is
holding their annual
Christmas concert again
and it has some very
popular Christmas songs
in German and English

Hello Everyone!
Thank you for the great support you gave to the Liedertafel/Liederkranz over the last 12
months by visiting our concerts and hopefully enjoyed them!
The choir wishes to thank Olga and Leo for their terrific work over the year. Olga for
playing the piano and Leo for conducting us and keeping us amused with the jokes he
tells us during the breaks.
The Choir participated at the RNA Showgrounds Oktoberfest on both weekends in
October 2017.
We received an invitation to attend the Beenleigh Historical Village on Sunday
5 November 2017 to perform some of our Oktoberfest—Schunkellieder songs. We
were in good company there as the Clubs Dance Group “Alpenrosen” performed there
as well and while they were playing “Edelweiss” on their bells, the choir accompanied
them with their voices.
Karl Schlobohm who has been with the choir since 1979 decided to go into Retirement.
We wish him and his wife Kate all the best.
The choir will hold its Christmas party on Wednesday 6 December in the Lounge and
Keller Bar from 6pm onwards.
After the Party, the choir will go on holiday for a well deserved rest and come back
refreshed on Tuesday 6 February 2018.
We also had an invitation to participate in a Music Festival in Hobart, Tasmania from
29 June to 8 July 2018. More about this in the next newsletter.
Once again, thank you for your support and we'll see you all at our Christmas Concert
on Sunday 3 December at 2.00pm.
We are still looking for singers wishing to join our choir. It’s never too late to have some
fun and entertain others with your singing!
We start practicing again on Tuesday 6 February 2018 from 6.30—9.00pm in the hall of
the German Club.

Dear Members and Guests,
Well, with a successful Ashes behind us, December is the time of the Xmas parties.
January will be full of Big Bash games. I encourage anyone attending the club to
book ahead to ensure a table. Please friend us on Facebook to keep abreast of the
Xmas Specials. All specials will be posted there first and always go very quickly.

LADIES KAFFEE-KLATSCH
Hallochen and Greetings—to all Members and Friends, - once
again the Festive Season is approaching with everyone
preparing for this joyful occasion. Our last get-together for
this year will be on Thursday 14th of December and I sincerely
look forward to many Ladies being able to join a wonderful
and merry Christmas Party in the Keller bar.
We have only the one Birthday Child this time—Renate
Waldock will celebrate her special day on the 5th of December
and we all wish her much sunshine and good health for the
coming year (Herzliche Glueckwuensche) my friend!
For some people 2017 turned out to be a distressing year with
much sorrow for the loss of exceptional friends and long time
members of our club and our thoughts and prayers are with
their families at this Christmas time.
On behalf of all of the ladies I would like to pass on our best
wishes for a ‘Merry Christmas and a safe—happy and healthy
New Year.”
To our President, Monika—the Committee and the entire Club
Staff—as well as the friendly and caring employees of the
Restaurant ‘Zum Kaiser” we thank each and every one for your

On Sunday 5 November 2017, Treffpunkt held it's annual election and a new committee for 2017-2018 was elected and is as follows: President: Oleg Zocchi Vice-President: Lucas Rietberg Treasurer: Luke Hobbs Secretary: Allan Watts Congratulations to all the new committee members and best wishes for an active new year. The Treffpunkt Christmas Party will be held in the Keller Bar on Wednesday 13 De-cember starting at 6:30pm. Treffpunkt members are encouraged to bring one guest if they so wish. Finger food and a bar tab will be provided. It is envisaged that a quick meeting of the Treffpunkt will be held during the Christmas party to finalise the new year's first activity which is expected to go off with a bang with an excursion to the local Rifle Range. No experience or gun license will be re-quired and costs will be subsidised by Treffpunkt, however no transport will be provid-ed. Treffpunkt meetings will now be held monthly during Frühschoppen and all members are encouraged to meet at the Brisbane Deutscher Turnverein on Wednesday evenings for good company and trivia, and or darts. TREFFPUNKT REPORT
The year 2017 is coming to an end. We have been privileged to be part of Brisbane German Week in October this year, with two events held at the Club – “Meet Your Consul” and “German History Day”, both of which were a tremendous success! The German Consulate brought Home to us. Weihnachten is now a few weeks away. Before that children get to enjoy small gifts/candy from the Nikolaus. Did you clean your shoes on the night of 5 December? Then you shall be lucky and receive those cleaned boots filled with surprises! Karneval 2018 is set to take place on 24 February in the great hall with all the usual entertainment. Find our group on Facebook “Karneval in Oz” for updates and costume hints if desired. We gathered for a well earned Christmas celebration and
reflected on a very successful year. 2017 was the year of
Dancefest in Canberra and a particularly successful
Oktoberfest season, with multiple functions in a variety of
locations.
Our dance group has grown with new members joining the
troupe … and new additions to our growing Alpenrosen
family.
We will be working hard throughout the coming 2018 as we
prepare to host Dancefest in 2019 in Brisbane. It will soon be
upon us!
We shall return to the club in early February for those of you
who have been missing the tinkling of the bells and the
stomping of the Schuhplattler! (LOL)
