Kalamazoo will be a regional hub, connecting Battle Creek to Lake Michigan, D Avenue to Portage, and eventually Lake Michigan to Lake Huron. This existing trail and planned trails in other counties will connect more than 140 miles of trails—connecting together the Battle Creek Linear Park, the Kal-Haven Trail, and the Portage Bicentennial Park Trail. Currently, there are 22 miles complete of this non-motorized, paved-asphalt trail. One stretch begins at 10th Street, heading east from the Kal-Haven Caboose and stretching 4.8 miles to Westnedge Ave. You can also enjoy a section that connects 35th St. in Galesburg to D Avenue, traveling through River Oaks County Park, Mayors’ Riverfront Park, Verburg Park, along Riverview Dr., and heading north along Markin Glen County Park and the Kalamazoo Nature Center. These two segments are connected by a signed-route throughout downtown Kalamazoo, featuring the Arcadia Creek Festival Place as well as many places to eat and shop. As funds and property become available the trail will continue to grow, realizing a vision that has been in the works since 1991. Battle Creek Linear Park The Linear Park is a paved trail that winds through the city of Battle Creek, totaling more than 25 miles. Kal-Haven Trail The Kal-Haven is a 33.5-mile path of crushed limestone/slag converted from a railroad bed that connects South Haven to Kalamazoo. It is usable for all non-motorized bicycles, hiking, and snowmobiling when there is a 4-inch snow base. For more information contact the Van Buren State Park at (269) 637-2788, or www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/ North Country Hiking Trail The North Country Hiking Trail covers 4,600 miles and seven states. It begins in North Dakota and stretches to the state of New York. A portion of the trail travels through Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties, sharing the Linear Park in Battle Creek. For more information visit www.northcountrytrail.org. Trail Rules 1. The trail is open from 7 a.m. to sunset. 2. The trail is designated for pedestrians or non-motorized transportation only. Horses are not permitted. 3. No person shall operate an ATV, ORV, snowmobile, mini-bike, scooter, go-cart, golf cart or similar motorized device. 4. Pets must be on a leash no more than six feet long and owners must clean up after their pets. 5. Solicitation is not allowed. 6. Camping is not permitted. 7. Hunting and trapping are not permitted. Portage Bicentennial Park Trail The Bicentennial Park Trail in Portage winds over 4 miles following Portage Creek at Kilgore Road, south to the Celery Flats Interpretive Center and Portage City Centre. It’s a paved surface and provides access to the 57-mile Por- tage Bikeway system. Gull Road Path The Gull Road Path stretches from Riverview Drive into Richland following Gull Road. The Path uses a combination of sidewalks and a paved asphalt surface, totaling about eight miles. The Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route 1 The Great Lake-to-Lake Trail Route 1 extends from South Haven to Port Huron and is comprised of 18 trails with 198 miles already in place. Route 1 will eventually total 315 miles across the State of Michigan. When complete, the KRVT will comprise 35 miles of the Great Lake- to-Lake Trail Route 1. Trail ParkingKRV Trail/Kal-Haven Trailhead: Located on 10th St., two miles north of W. Main.

D Avenue: A parking lot is located along the KRV Trail, just west of the Kalamazoo River.

Kalamazoo Nature Center: Parking is located just inside the Kalamazoo Nature Center entrance.

Markin Glen County Park: Markin Glen provides convenient access to the KRV Trail through the north end of the park near the fishing lake. There is a vehicle entry fee of $5 per day or $25 for an annual pass. The park gates are open 7 a.m. to sunset.

Parchment: Parking is available along Commerce Lane near Mosel Ave.

Verburg Park: Parking is available at the north end of the park at Paterson St. just west of Riverview Drive.

Jack Coombs Trailway: This parking lot is located behind 660 Gull St. along the river.

Rose Park Veterans Memorial: Parking is available at the Southwest corner of E. Michigan Ave. and King Highway.

Mayors’ Riverfront Park: Parking is available near Homer Stryker Field toward the back of the park (gates are locked at sunset) and also along Mills St. near the Kalamazoo River.

King Highway: Parking is available ½ mile west of River St. at the DNR Kalamazoo River access site.

Comstock: Trail parking is available at both North and South Wenke Parks, located on King Highway just west of River St.

Comstock: Located on the South side of the Kalamazoo River at River St., Merrill Park is connected by sidewalk to the KRV Trail.

River Oaks County Park: The trail passes through River Oaks County Park and there is ample parking. The vehicle entry fee is $5 per day or $25 for an annual pass. Park gates are open 7 a.m. to sunset.

Nearby Trail ParkingDowntown Kalamazoo: The Radisson and Arcadia parking ramps are located just a few blocks from the KRV Trail.
