This summer there have been over 100 block club parties in the 18th Ward. I've attended most and have had the pleasure of walking numerous blocks listening to constituent concerns. Everywhere I go people want to talk about Public Safety and the despicable and frightening random violence that affects our city far too often. I am asking all blocks that don't have a block club to form one right now. Please contact Ms. Starks at 773-284-5057 and she will assist you with block club formation. Block Clubs communicate with their neighbors and utilize my office to forward issues that affect the quality of life on their block before they become unmanageable. I then alert CPD commanders so there's constant communication between the three groups. I'd like you to join me in welcoming our two new Police Commanders, Bill Bradley (6th District) and Ron Pontecore (8th District), to the 18th Ward. Remember, IT'S OUR COMMUNITY and you can only strengthen it by becoming involved! DC/7Y CiCtirt - Alderman Derrick Curtis

BRINGING BACK THE 18TH WARD

Derrick C --,

Greetings 18th Ward Residents,

I hope you all enjoyed a safe & happy summer as we get ready to kick off another school year.

MENTORS NEEDED FOR NEW YOUTH PROGRAM Several Ashburn community leaders have teamed up with Alderman Curtis to create a new mentoring

program for local youth that will kick off this fall.

Our goal is to meet once a week with a group of

boys and girls from the Ashburn community for

some conversations, games, and activities that are geared toward building moral character, promoting personal growth, and developing leadership skills.

We are looking for adults who are willing to assist

with this program as youth mentors, The mentors would volunteer a few hours of their time each

month to have conversations with the youth, build relationships with them and assist with the

activities.

If you are interested in being one of the mentors

for this program, please contact Gincy Hartin, the Associate Minister at First Christian Church

of Chicago, at (773) 791-9321 or via e-mail at [email protected].

OTHER UPCOMING EVENTS • Pet Vaccinations (TBD) • Bungalow Seminar (TBD)
