Activity Feed - Available to all hosted clients | NewThe Activity Feed, which is a new course homepage widget for Brightspace Learning Environment, is now available to all hosted clients.

The Activity Feed provides a central location for instructors to post messages and links to course materials, web links, and files on Google Drive. It gives learners the ability to quickly access links to important materials, and comment on messages made by instructors and classmates.

Before this widget can be used, the configuration variable d2l.Tools.ActivityFeed.ShowWidget must be enabled. Features of the tool can be turned on for specific courses by adding override values in the Config Variable Browser. Administrators must access Admin Tools > IMS Configuration to map IMS roles to Brightspace Learning Environment roles.

Activity Feed is a service located in all supported D2L Amazon Web Services™ (AWS) locations:

U.S. East (N. Virginia)

Canada Central (Montreal)

EMEA (Ireland)

Sydney

Singapore

Client regions are determined by D2L and routed accordingly.

This feature is dependent on the Authentication Service, and Landlord Service.

1. In the Config Variable Browser, set the d2l.Tools.ActivityFeed.ShowWidget configuration variable to on.

2. From the Admin Tools menu, select IMS Configuration and map IMS roles to Brightspace Learning Environment roles. Brightspace Learning Environment roles for student, parent, and instructor must be mapped to the IMS roles for student, mentor, and instructor.

3. Add the Activity Feed widget to the default course homepage, or notify instructors that the widget is available for them to add to custom homepages.

Ensure that you have the appropriate permissions to enable these features by checking your organization’s policies regarding data residency, and by consulting with your legal advisors.

Slight impact to administrators who can turn on and turn off the View and Modify Flagged Status permission.

When turned on for the instructor role, instructors can flag or unflag a user in the classlist.

When turned off for the learner role, learners cannot see or modify flags in a classlist.

The View and Modify Flagged Status permission will be granted for all roles that currently have the Has access to the classlist permission.

Request that your administrator turn off the View and Modify Flagged Status permission for the learner role if you do not want learners to see and modify flags in a classlist.

Slight impact to learners who load the classlist as they will not be able to see and modify flags in a classlist if the View and Modify Flagged Status permission is not granted.

Daylight Experience - The Brightspace Daylight Experience is now supported on all Browsers | UpdatedThe Brightspace Daylight Experience features are now optimized for production environments on all browsers. The core tools and workflows in Brightspace Learning Environment have been tested extensively with Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer 11 browsers.

In the coming months, D2L will continue to make updates across the product suite that reflect Daylight design. Turning on Daylight does not modify your content or other settings in Brightspace. All workflows and features in the Brightspace Daylight experience are available on all supported browsers. If you turn on the Brightspace Daylight Experience to do some testing, you can turn off the configuration setting to restore your site to the original look and feel.

You must have this configuration variable set before you can use this feature.

Document Conversion Service - General availability to all clients | UpdatedAs of this release, the Document Conversion Service is now available to all D2L clients. Previously, the Document Conversion Service was only available to new and existing clients hosted in Amazon Web Services™ (AWS) data centers.

Global Change System Requirement Change




Moderate system requirement impact for administrators because of potential data residency issues.

When documents are uploaded to the Content tool, Assignments tool, Brightspace Learning Repository, or Brightspace ePortfolio, the documents are converted to PDFs, which display inline in the tool or product. This improves the document viewing experience for users. Previously, the DocumentBuilderService rendered documents as images at different zoom levels.

By default, the Document Conversion Service is not enabled. System Administrators can enable the service by turning on the d2l.System.Services.DocumentConversion.IsEnabled configuration variable.

The Document Conversion Service is located in all AWS locations currently used by D2L.

A call from the Brightspace platform is routed to the appropriate region based on its geographic location using the Amazon Route 53 DNS web service. Currently, Canadian servers are routed to Canada Central, Australian servers to Asia-Pacific, and all others default to U.S. East.

The Document Conversion Service depends on the Authentication Service, located in AWS U.S. East (N. Virginia).

D2L recommends checking your organization’s policies regarding data residency, and consulting with your legal advisors.

For detailed information regarding data residency, privacy, and transmission, refer to the updated Microservices in the Brightspace Cloud guide when it is released.

To enable the Document Conversion Service, turn on the d2l.System.Services.DocumentConversion.IsEnabled configuration variable in the Config Variable Browser.

Slight impact to instructors and learners due to the valid file types that can be uploaded.

Documents are converted during upload instead of during user access, which reduces wait times when serving documents to users.

Valid file types include: .ppt, .pps, .pptx, .ppsx, .doc, .docx, .rtf, .odt, .odp, .xls, .xlsx.

Converted documents display as inline PDFs in the tool or product. If an uploaded document is an invalid file type, it fails to convert and render in the tool or product.

When users download documents, they are saved in their native file formats.

Grades - Grade exports include all group and section enrollments | UpdatedWhen exporting grades from the grade book, selecting the option to include group and section membership information now exports all group and section enrollment information for each learner. Multiple enrollments are exported as a comma-separated list within a cell. This allows for more detailed analysis of grade exports outside of Brightspace Learning Environment.

This feature implements PIE item D3680.

Configuration Variable Tool Change


Slight impact to instructors and administrators who export grades from courses with multiple sections or groups due to availability of additional membership information in the CSV export.

Group and section membership export options are only available if the course you are working in contains groups or sections.

To view these options, the instructor role must have the option to Access all course groups/sections enabled under their role settings.

After selecting Export Grades from the Enter Grades page, select the option under User Details to include group or section details for each learner.



Lessons - Limited Availability | NewPlease Note: While you may turn Lessons on in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.1, optimal functionality and user experience is designed for version 10.7.2. We advise you to refrain from turning on Lessons until after you have received your 10.7.2 version update.

Lessons is a new way for instructors and learners to experience the Content tool in Brightspace Learning Environment. It offers a simplified experience for organizing content, aligning to learning standards, managing the availability of course materials, and automatically scheduling content units as a pacing guideline. The ability to import from the Achievement Standards Network, and map content items to those standards, has been added. Instructors can also add their own materials from external sources, such as Google Drive, to supplement existing resources. To promote classroom engagement, the Lessons experience works with the Activity Feed, allowing instructors to easily post content materials to a course homepage. The Lessons experience is currently available to US clients only.

Moderate impact to administrators due to required configuration variables, tool changes, and permissions to make this feature available.

To make the Lessons experience available in Brightspace Learning Environment, turn on the following configuration variables:

d2l.Tools.Content.IsLessonsEnabled

d2l.Tools.Content.UseLessonsExperience

d2l.System.Services.DocumentConversion.IsEnabled

The Document Conversion Service is located in AWS U.S. East (N. Virginia) and depends on the Authentication Service.

The Learning Outcomes tool must be turned on, and the Manage Outcomes permission is required to import standards from the Achievement Standards Network and to copy standard requirements between courses. This tool relies on the Learning Outcomes service (LOReS). LOReS is a regional service that is currently only available to clients in the US East region.

The Lessons experience is only available in US English as of Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.2.

1. In the Config Variable Browser, ensure that the Organization Value for d2l.Tools.Content.IsLessonsEnabled is set to on.

2. Turn on d2l.Tools.Content.UseLessonsExperience for all courses to use the Lessons experience. To enable Lessons for individual courses, set override values in the d2l.Tools.Content.UseLessonsExperience configuration variable for the desired courses.

3. Turn on d2l.System.Services.DocumentConversion.IsEnabled to activate Document Conversion Service for your organization.

4. From the Admin Tools menu, select Organization Tools and turn on Learning Outcomes.

5. Grant the Manage Outcomes permission for the Learning Outcomes tool to roles responsible for importing standards and copying standards between courses.




Slight impact to instructors and learners due to the availability of the new Lessons experience.

SCORM - Simplified workflow when exiting SCORM objects | UpdatedIn the new SCORM solution, when users exit a SCORM object, they no longer need to carry out the additional step of navigating back to the Content tool in a course. Users are now taken back to Content automatically.

Previously, when users exited a SCORM object in the new SCORM solution, they were taken to an LTI launch page and they had to use the Back button in their browser or the breadcrumbs in Brightspace Learning Environment to navigate back to Content. The additional step is no longer required.

Integrations

IPSIS - Plug and Play Administration | NewA new configuration user interface for the Integration Pack for Student Information Systems (IPSIS) is now available for use with the Brightspace platform. The new interface still uses the existing IPSIS framework, but is streamlined to be more intuitive and easier to navigate. For new IPSIS configurations, IPSIS administrators choose between proven default configurations and follow a



straightforward setup that provides the same flexibility as the existing IPSIS integration but is greatly simplified. Existing IPSIS configurations must still be managed through the original IPSIS dashboard, and will not be migrated at this time. The Error Log and Audit Log environments are still accessed through the original IPSIS dashboard as well.

The features and improvements in the new user interface include the following:

The incorporation of proven default configurations means that IPSIS administrators no longer need to export or import prior IPSIS configurations to use as a starting point.

Straightforward questions replace complex management of translators and handlers. This eliminates the need for manual verification of problematic plugin lists when contacting D2L support personnel.

IPSIS now supports multiple source systems, and each source system can have its own configuration, based on the selected default.

A new IPSIS landing page displays all IPSIS configurations for an organization, both new and existing.

Default configurations for LIS 2.0 and Standard CSV are included.

Workflow




Moderate impact to IPSIS administrators due to the new user interface.

The default configurations are stored in the Content Delivery Network (CDN).

The new configuration interface supports new integrations only and does not allow for migrations from existing source systems.

Existing IPSIS implementations, and the Error and Audit Logs still make use of the original IPSIS dashboard.

Support for mobile devices is not available in this release.

To access the new landing page, click the Admin Tools menu and select IPSIS Administration.

To make use of the new configuration interface for a new SIS integration, contact your D2L Account Manager.

Fixed IssuesTo keep you informed about the improvements D2L has made to Brightspace Learning Environment, the Fixed Issues List consists of issues that have been fixed in the current release, unless otherwise noted.

Assignments

PRB0054710 (Daylight)Previously, in instances of Brightspace Learning Environment that had the Daylight experience enabled, in the Assignments tool, the delete icon for individual file submissions was not in the Submissions view. This meant that you could not delete individual submissions for a user, but could only delete all submissions at once.

Now, in instances of Brightspace Learning Environment that has the Daylight experience enabled, in the Assignments tool, you can delete individual file submissions in the Submissions view, as expected.

Found in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.6.8.

To reproduce this fix:

1. In an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment that has the Daylight experience enabled, access a course.

2. Create a new individual submission folder.

3. Impersonate a learner and submit two or more files to the folder.

4. Stop impersonating the learner.

5. In Assignments, go to the submissions view for the folder the learner submitted to.

6. Observe that you can delete an individual submission for the user, as expected.

Organization Files was one of the source options presented.

3. Paste the contents into a discussion post.

4. Click Post.

PRB0054410Previously, in Discussions, with the Grid View and Unthreaded options selected, if group filtered topics were enabled and you deleted a group or group category whose members had posted to a discussion topic with group restrictions, the group information continued to display and there was no indication that the group associated with the discussion thread was deleted.

1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment as an administrator and from the Admin Tools menu, select Config Variable Browser.

2. Search for d2l.Tools.Discuss.EnableGroupFilteredTopics and ensure that the variable is enabled.

3. In Roles and Permissions, ensure the administrator role has the See Grid View permission under the Discussions tool.

4. Access a course, create a group category, and from the Enrollment Type drop-down select # of Groups.

5. In the Number of Groups field, enter 1.



6. In the Additional Options area, select Set up discussion areas and save.

7. On the Create Restricted Discussion Areas page, click New Forum and create one.

8. Select the Create one topic with threads separated by group radio button.

9. Click Create and Next > Done > Save.

10. On the Manage Groups page, click the link for the group you created.

11. Click Enroll Users.

12. Enroll one or more users to the group and save.

13. Impersonate one of the learners you added to the group.

14. Go to Discussions and click the group discussion.

15. Start a new thread and post to it.

16. Stop impersonating the learner.

17. Go to Groups and delete the group or group category that you created.

18. Go to Discussions Settings and ensure that in the Personal Settings area, Grid View is selected, and in the Grid View Settings area, Unthreaded is selected.

19. Click Save.

20. Access the discussion topic you created and observe that the group information displays that the group assigned to the discussion thread was deleted.

PRB0054596Previously, when you used grid view in Discussions, the following unexpected behavior might have occurred when working with Draft posts:

1. After you posted a previously saved draft, the page reloaded and the post was no longer open in the reading pane. However, the draft was posted successfully, and was visible in the grid.

2. If you opened a saved draft, edited it, and then posted it, the draft post was posted to the topic successfully; however, a copy of the draft post remained in the draft folder.

Now, when you post a saved draft in grid view in Discussions, the page reloads and the new post is selected and opened in the reading pane. The post no longer appears as a draft, as expected.

Grades

PRB0047326Previously, on the Enter Grades page in the Grades tool, username and email data did not display in the grade book.



Now, on the Enter Grades page in the Grades tool, username data displays in the grade book, as expected, and email has been removed as a personal display option.



1. As an instructor, access the Grades tool.

2. Click Settings.

3. Under User Details, select the Username and Org Defined ID options, and observe that Email is no longer an option here.

4. Click Save, and then Close.

5. On the Enter Grades page, observe that username data displays, as expected.

Groups

PRB0053046Previously, if a learner was a member of multiple groups within a single category, when you exported grades with the option to include Group Membership details, the export only listed one of the groups that the learner was a member of and excluded their other group memberships.

1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and access a course with learners enrolled.

2. From the navbar, click Course Admin and select Groups.

3. Click New Category, enter a category name, set the Number of Groups to 2 and click Save.

4. From the context menu of the category you just created, click Enroll Users.

5. Use the check boxes to enroll one of the learners into both groups and click Save.

6. Navigate to the Enter Grades page and click Export.

7. In the User Details section, include Group Membership and then click Export to CSV.

8. Download the file that is generated by Brightspace Learning Environment and open it.

Manage Files

6. Stop impersonating the instructor and remove the Content > Manage Content permission from the instructor.

7. Impersonate the instructor.

8. Go to User Progress and view the progress for the learner for the Content tool.

Widgets

PRB0052619Previously, in the My Courses widget, when you did an advanced search and you set filters for semester and department that resulted in there only being one search result, you were automatically redirected to that result. The search also saved those filters so that if you navigated to the search tool in the future, you were automatically redirected to that single search result again, which made the search ineffective for any other criteria.

Now, in the My Courses widget, when you do an advanced search, you are no longer directed to a course homepage if a previous search produced a single search result; you are directed to the Search page where you can complete a new search query, as expected.

PRB0054364The Activity Feed does not display for Windows 10 users who log in to Brightspace Learning Environment using Internet Explorer 11.576.14393.0 or lower.

As a workaround, upgrade your version of Internet Explorer 11, or log in using an alternate browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.


To reproduce this issue:

1. From a Windows 10 computer, log in to Brightspace Learning Environment using Internet Explorer 11.576.14393.0 or lower.

2. Access a test course whose homepage contains an Activity Feed.

3. Observe that the activity feed does not render any posts or comments.

PRB0054926When an instructor edits a learner's comment on the Activity Feed, the profile image next to the comment temporarily changes from the learner's to the teacher's. Once the instructor's edit is saved, the profile image reverts to the learner's image.

Found in Found in Brightspace Learning Environment 10.7.2.


1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and access a test course with an Activity Feed on its homepage.

2. Click anywhere in the Create a post text box, enter a message, and click Post.

3. From the navbar, select Classlist and impersonate a learner.

4. Make a comment on the Activity Feed post made in the previous steps, and end your impersonation.

5. Locate the learner's comment on the Activity Feed and observe the learner's profile icon.

6. Click Edit Post and observe that your icon now displays instead of the learner's.

7. Save any changes and observe that the learner's icon returns.



PRB0054938Changes made to a user's account settings to modify their date and time zone are not respected by the Activity Feed widget. Brightspace Learning Environment always displays the activity feed's date and time information using the organization's default date and time zone.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and access a test course that has an Activity Feed on its course homepage.

2. Click anywhere in the Create a post text box, enter a message, and click Post.

3. Observe the date and time that displays above the post.

4. Click on your name and select Account Settings.

5. Change your preferred date format or time zone, and click Save and Close.

6. Observe that the date and time that displays above the post has not changed.

Assignments

PRB0054708When special access (without date restriction) is granted to a learner to access an assignment submission folder, and that folder includes existing availability restrictions, the folder's original start and end date display to learners with special access.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and access a test course with learners enrolled.

2. From the navbar, select Assignments, and click New Submission Folder.

3. Enter a name for the submission folder, and click Restrictions.

4. Click Add Users to Special Access.

5. Don't enter any availability settings.

6. Next to a learner's name, select the check box and click Save.

7. On the Restrictions tab, add a start and end date, and click Save and Close.

8. From the navbar, select Classlist and impersonate the learner that you granted special access to.

9. Navigate to the Assignments tool and click on the submission folder created in the previous steps.

10. Observe that start and end date information displays despite the user's special access not including start and end dates.



PRB0054842If assignment submission folders are in a state where they can be mass Turnitin enabled, but haven't been, and are then copied to another course, there is no prompt to mass-enable Turnitin for the assignment submission folders.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment as an instructor with access to 3 new courses.

2. Navigate to Course 1 and from the navbar, select Assignments.

3. Click New Submission Folder, enter a name and click Turnitin.

4. Check the Enable Turnitin for this folder check box, and click Save and Close.

5. Navigate to Course 2 and from the navbar, select Course Admin.

6. Select Import/Export/Copy Components and click Search for offering.

7. Search for Course 1, select its radio button, and click Add Selected.

8. Click Select Components, check the Assignments check box, click Continue and then Finish.

9. From the navbar, select Assignments.

10. Observe the message stating There are 1 folder(s) that were Turnitin enabled in the previous course offering, and the presence of the Enable All button.

11. Do not click Enable All.

12. Navigate to Course 3 and from the navbar, select Course Admin.

13. Select Import/Export/Copy Components and click Search for offering.

14. Search for Course 2, select its radio button, and click Add Selected.

15. Click Select Components, check the Assignments check box, click Continue and then Finish.

16. From the navbar, select Assignments.

17. Observe that the Turnitin message does not display, and the Enable All button is not available.

5. Delete D2L.PlatformTools.Navbars.Web.Desktop.Rendering.Default.HomeMinibarViewProvider,D2L.PlatformTools.Navbars, and D2L.LP.Minibar.CourseSelector.CourseSelectorMinibarViewProvider,D2L.LP.Tools plugins, and click Done Editing.

6. Click Manage Overrides and click the pencil icon to edit the overrides.

7. Locate the new configuration created in the previous steps, and click Apply next to its name.

8. Observe that the My Home icon and course selector no longer displays in the minibar.

9. From the Admin Tools menu, select Config Variable Browser, and search for d2l.System.BrightspaceDaylightExperience.

As a workaround, ensure that your Account Settings are set to show secondary windows as dialog.



1. Log in to an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled, using Chrome or Internet Explorer.

2. Click on your name, and select Account Settings.

3. Set your Dialog Settings to show secondary windows as pop-ups, and click Save and Close.

4. Access a test course and navigate to the Content area.

5. Click Upload/Create and select Create a File.

6. Click the Insert Image button and select My Computer or Course Offering Files.

7. Upload an image from your computer or select an image from your course offering files, and click Add.

8. Observe that the pop-up dialog does not display all of its information in the available space.

9. Scroll down to view the text box for entering Alternative Text.

10. Observe that the check box to set the image as decorative is not visible.

11. To access the check box to set the image as decorative, and maximize the pop-up window.

2. Navigate to the Email tool and open your settings.

3. Update your settings to hide the folder list and preview pane, and click Save.

4. Open any email from your inbox.

Config Variable Browser

PRB0054040 (Daylight)If the d2l.Settings.WebServerName configuration variable does not match the URL of the Brightspace Learning Environment log in page, and Daylight is turned on, when a user logs in using a URL other than the one listed in d2l.Settings.WebServerName and then, selects a navbar link, the user is directed to the WebServerName URL. The user is then returned to the login page, or an error page; because sessions are associated with the domain name and not with the web server name.



1. Log in to an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment where the d2l.Settings.WebServerName configuration variable does not match the URL of the log in page.

2. From the Admin Tools menu, select Config Variable Browser.

3. Turn on d2l.System.BrightspaceDaylightExperience, and click Save.

4. Navigate to any course, and select any navbar link.

5. Observe that you are taken back to the organization log in page or an error displays.

Note: The d2l.Settings.WebServerName configuration variable cannot be viewed or edited by Administrators. Only D2L Support can make changes to this configuration.

Content

PRB0054724When discussion forums and topics are added to content, the Subscribe option is not available.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and access a test course.

2. From the navbar, select Discussions.



3. Click New, and select New Forum.

4. Enter a name, check the Create a new topic in this forum with the same title box, and click Save and Close.

5. From the navbar, select Content.

6. Add a module, click Existing Activities, and select Discussions.

7. Select the forum and topic created in the previous steps.

8. Select the newly created content topic.

9. Observe that the Subscribe option is not available.

PRB0054765 (Daylight)In instances of Brightspace Learning Environment that have Daylight enabled, broken links in the content tool generate internal errors instead of displaying that the link is broken and prompting instructors to update the link.



1. Access an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled.

2. Navigate to a test course and from the navbar, select Assignments.

3. Click New Submission Folder, enter a name and out of score, and click Save and Close.


5. Click Add a module, enter a name, and click anywhere on the page to create the module.

6. Click Existing Activities and select Assignments.

7. Select the Assignment submission folder created in the previous steps.

8. Return to the Assignments tool and delete the submission folder.

9. Return to the Content tool and select the link to the assignment submission folder.

10. Observe the internal error that displays instead of a prompt for instructors to update the broken link.

Note: We have used Assignments as an example in this known issue. Broken links to other tools and resources demonstrate the same issue.

Discussions

PRB0054659If instructors do not have the discussion tool Edit Any Post permission, they are unable to edit the title of discussion topics from the content area.



As a workaround, from a content module, open the context menu for a discussion topic and select Edit Properties In-place and modify the title from this location.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment and from the Admin Tools menu, select Roles and Permissions.

2. Click Create/Copy, select the current instructor role, enter a name for the new role, and click Copy.

3. Click Edit Permissions and remove the Edit Any Post permission from the Discussions tool.

4. Ensure that all content permissions at the course offering level are granted, and click Save and Close.

5. Role switch to the new role created in the previous steps.


7. Click Upload/Create, and select New Discussion.

8. Enter a title, click New Forum, enter a forum title, and click Create.

9. Click Publish.

10. Select the new Discussions topic from the content module.

11. Open the context menu next to the discussion topic's name.

12. Observe that the Edit Title option is not available.

13. End impersonation of the modified instructor role.


15. Select the new Discussions topic from the course content.

16. Open the context menu next to the discussion topic's name.

17. Observe that the Edit Title option is available.

HTML Editor

PRB0054575When accessing Brightspace Learning Environment from a mobile device running on iOS 10.2.1, the HTML Editor toolbar may obscure text being typed.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment using the Safari browser on a mobile device running on iOS 10.2.1.

2. Access a test course, and from the navbar, select Discussions.



3. Open a Discussions topic that contains threads.

4. Select a thread, and click Reply to Thread.

5. Begin typing and observe that the text is hidden behind the HTML Editor toolbar.

PRB0054738In HTML Editor, when using the Chrome browser, if a user's Account Settings have the Locale & Language set to Arabic, the Insert Image, Insert Stuff, and Add Link buttons open an empty pop-up window.

3. Set Arabic as the Preferred Locale and Language, and click Save and Close.

4. Access a test course and navigate to the Content tool.

5. Click Upload/Create, and select Create a File.

6. Select the Insert Image, Insert Stuff, or Add Link button.

7. Observe that the pop-up window is empty.

2. From the navbar, select Assignments, and click New Submission Folder.

3. In the HTML editor, click Insert Quicklink.

4. Select URL from the available options.

5. Enter a URL and Title, and click Insert.

6. In the HTML editor, highlight the newly created quicklink and click Insert Quicklink.

7. Observe that the Update button is not visible.

8. Scroll down or resize the dialog box to display all available buttons.



Integrations

PRB0052065If users created through IPSIS have spaces in their usernames, attempting to edit their username in Brightspace Learning Environment generates an error message.



1. Use IPSIS to create a new user with a space in the username.

2. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment, and from the Admin Tools menu, select Users.

3. Search for the user you created in the previous steps.

4. Click the context menu beside the user name, and select Edit User Information.

5. Observe the error: Username is already assigned to a different user.

Quizzes

PRB0054016 (Daylight)In instances of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled, quiz questions do not display LaTex inline when using any browser other than Chrome.

As a workaround, log in to Brightspace Learning Environment using the Chrome browser.



1. Log in to an instance of Brightspace Learning Environment with Daylight enabled using any browser other than Chrome.

2. Access a test course that contains quizzes using LaTex.

3. From the navbar, select Quizzes.

4. Open the context menu for a quiz, and select preview.

5. Observe that the questions using LaTex do not display properly.

PRB0054130When using the Respondus Lockdown Browser application on an iPad, submission views are not visible to learners.



1. Log in to Brightspace Learning Environment as an instructor, and access a test course.



2. From the navbar, select Quizzes, and click New Quiz.

3. Enter a name for the quiz, and click Add/Edit Questions.

4. Click New, and select any question type.

5. Create the question, click Save, and then Done Editing Questions.

6. Click Restrictions and set the status to Active.

7. Under Respondus LockDown Browser options, check the Required to take this quiz, and Required to view quiz feedback and results check boxes.

8. Click Assessments and check the Allow attempt to be set as graded immediately upon completion check box.

9. Click Submission Views, and then click Default View.

10. Select the Yes radio button to show questions.

11. Select the Show all questions with user responses radio button.

12. Check the Show question answers check box and click Save.

13. From the navbar, select Quizzes and click LockDown Browser.

14. Click the context menu for the new quiz and select Modify Settings.

15. Select the Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam radio button, and check the Require LockDown Browser to view feedback and results check box.

16. Expand Advanced Settings, select the Allow students to take this exam with an iPad (using the "LockDown Browser" app from iTunes) radio button and click Save and Close.

17. From the navbar, select Classlist and enroll a learner.

18. Enable Guided Access on your iPad by selecting Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access.

19. Turn on Guided Access, set a passcode and make a record of the passcode.

20. Open the Respondus LockDown Browser App and on the iPad, press the Home button 3 times to enter Guided Access.

21. Press Start, locate your institution, and log in as the learner you enrolled in the previous steps.

22. Access the test course and complete the quiz.

23. Open the Submission View for your attempt.

24. Observe the submission information for a second before it disappears.

25. Once this occurs only the quiz name and Close button is visible and the submission view information is not visible.

9. Click Done Editing Questions.

10. From the navbar, select Classlist and enroll a learner.

11. Using a mobile device, log in as the learner enrolled in the previous step.

12. Access the quiz and observe that all question and answer text may not display responsively.
