6THE MOTOR CYCLES
Today's field is a truly representative view of two- and three-wheeled racing over the decades. ranging {rom the late twentiesand early thirbies Rudges, DougJases, Dick Knight's thunderousBrough Superior. etc.
Immediate post-war years are well represented by Basil Key'sNorJap twin, originally built by the then doyen of Brighton Kilosprinters .the late Francis Williams.
Coming up to date we have Tony Weeden's Blue Rondo-Triumph engined and supercbarged 500 cc. sol<>--,tbe present motorcycle course record holder, a Litle Tony has held for the past threeyears with a Lime of 18.96 seconds.
This year Tony's record is under serious threat in the shapeof the Flying Dutchman Henk Vink and his incredible 1,000 cc.supercharged Nitro Methane burning Kawasaki Special whichrejoices in the title of Big Spender lIT.
Vink is the world's fastest man over a sl». Kilometre onwheels of any number-an outstanding 16.9 sees. This time wasset on his return run when setting the world's sIs. Kilo record atElvington. Yorks. in 1977. It is of record that his average speedfor the final quarter mile of that kilometre was over ]94 m.p.h., andhis terminal speed was approximated at 208 m.p.h. plus.
