Brigadier General Jeffrey P. Van
Brigadier General Jeffrey P. Van is a graduate of University of Mississippi and received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business and his commission into the Mississippi National Guard upon graduation. Brigadier General Van’s education also includes one Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. During his 31 years of military service, he has served in multiple leadership and operational positions within the 155th Brigade and the 35th Infantry Division which has sent him on deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Kuwait. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, Infantry Advanced Course, United States Army War College, and the Basic and Command Army Strategic Education Program. He is a member of the National Guard Association of Mississippi, National Infantry Association, Honorable Order of Saint George, Honorable Order of Saint Maurice, and Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, North Georgia Builders Group, and Life member of the National Rifle Association. His assignments within the 155th include Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Battalion S3, Brigade S3, Brigade Executive Officer, Battalion Commander, Deputy Brigade Commander, and Brigade Commander. Following his Brigade Command he served as the Director of Joint Staff for the Mississippi National Guard. At the end of his time as the Director of Joint Staff he was promoted to Brigadier General where he was then assigned as the Deputy Commanding General for the 35th Infantry Division. In his most recent position, he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Director of Operations, G3 for United States Army Central, Shaw AFB, SC. Brigadier General Van is currently the Chief of Staff for United States Army Central, Shaw AFB, SC. Brigadier General Van’s awards and decorations include Legion of Merit with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Silver Hourglass Device, M Device and Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 3, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Mississippi Magnolia Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Mississippi War Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Mississippi Emergency Service Medal, Mississippi Service School Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Mississippi Longevity Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.
