Program Overview

A world of learning opportunities lies just outside Brien McMahon…

1. Brien McMahon is launching an internship program and is looking for corporate partners.

2. The program will provide students with an opportunity to explore a workplace atmosphere, gain career experience and transition from high school better prepared for 21st century workforce demands.

3. A high school internship with a company or organization can be a life-changing experience for a teenager, an experience that can provide motivation to pursue college and create hiring advantage.

4. Internship scopes are limitless; business, government, education, trade. All student ideas and interests will be explored. Corporate partners can range from multi-national corporations to small businesses, not-for-profits, government agencies or public works.

5. Students admitted into the program will have completed a demanding selection process and have met the following eligibility requirements:

• Minimum 2.7 GPA• Satisfactory attendance and disciplinary record• A solid desire to intern and learn• Soft skills training (i.e., dress code, phone etiquette, etc…)

Parameters

All internships will be unpaid.

No commitment by company for future employment.

All students will be graduating seniors.

Students will be responsible for transportation.

Companies and students will submit areas of interest to be matched.

Companies will interview and select each student.

Upon selection, students will draft with company the internship outline, including:

Goals

Specific tasks to perform and be exposed to.

Expectations

A company mentor must be assigned to each student.

BMHS staff will monitor each intern weekly.

Company mentors & students will provide weekly status reports to BMHS staff.

Completion of internship will include exit reports and interviews.

Internships will last 4 weeks:

30 hours/week (120 hours total) (i.e., 8AM-2PM or 8:30-2:30; includes lunch)

Hours will be flexible based on needs of student & company

Program will run from May 18th to Graduation
