Brief outline of the essay on: Development – a theory of Justice The essay will primarily seek to understand the idea of justice and “justice as fairness” as being the locus of the notion of development. The essay will briefly discuss and trace the quantum jump that the notion of development took with the idea of justice as discussed by John Rawls in 1970s. The essay will seek to contrast Rawl’s proposition with regard to justice with that of Sen’s in a limited manner. This comparison can be hoped to be helpful in tracing Sen’s framework of the capability approach and its consequent influence on contemporary discourse around development including concerns with the measurement of the same. By contrasting Sen’s ideas with those of Rawls’ one can also hope to understand the kind of conceptual differences that arise with the development of ideas development and progress.
