177 PRIME CATTLE Auctioneer – Martin Clack 07977 067519 Good numbers forward with some very well finished cattle, but with too many leaner and smaller sorts penned also. Trade on well fleshed cattle with some back and shape was sharp. Leaner types could have benefitted in the store ring. Great to see most bull buyers in operation but there is still a back log to clear and trade was a harder job because of this. Too many lean, plain steers today with best types to 255p/kg or £1509 in the hump with no heavy steers present. Best butchers heifers were a sharp trade to 280p/kg with numerous 260p/kg and above. Heavy heifers sold to £1528 in the lump. Good bull numbers saw best sucklers to 241p/kg with heavy bulls 700kg and above harder work to £1559 in the lump. Black and Whites were generally more ordinary and sold to 190p/kg. 94 CLEAN CATTLE ONLY 10 STEERS SOLD TO OV.AV. 184P/KG Very few well finished bullocks today but Rob Pugh sold a 592kg Limousin to 255p/kg with a 558kg model to 250p/kg from Richard Parkes. A 620kg Limousin cross sold to 216p/kg from Phil Clarke. 84 HEIFERS SOLD TO OV. AV. 231P/KG Star of the Limmies from Andrew Bishop topped at 280p/kg with another 480kg model to 276p/kg. Matt and Wendy Bower also sold to 276p/kg for 564kg British Blue with their second to 275p/kg. Neil Perkins sold to 274p/kg for his homebred 484kg Limousin, with both Neil and Steve achieving 71p/kg on other shapey types. A 616kg Blonde sold to £1527.68 from Mrs ‘B’. 83 BULLS SOLD TO OV.AV. 191P/KG Best Limmies sold to 241p/kg for 596kg from Jan and Robin Edwards. A 616kg Blue from Mark Jones sold to 238p/kg, with Blondes to 236p/kg for 524kg from Dan Watkins. Heavies sold to £1559.28 at 712kg from the Edwards stable once again, with a Charolais to £1545.70 from Howard Mold. Black and Whites sold to 190p/kg from Brian Rodenhurst, with Cleeton Court farming selling to 187p/kg.

Last week’s trade although in line with all other auctions, was well back. This week’s however, was completely different! Almost 40p/kg up, averaging 261p/kg to 297p/kg for 45kg from Andrew Preece and £142 for 52kg from Richard Morgan. Quality selling very well with customers looking for well finished shapey sheep. Similar to last week, weight sold with no reduction in p/kg for 46kg to 291p/kg and more commercial heavy lamb’s 260p/kg to 275p/kg. Lambs under 35kg an improved trade with 34.5kg lambs from Rob Rose at 274p/kg.

EWES Auctioneer – Martin Clack 07977 067519 A full house of ewes averaging £108 and selling to £159 for Texels from AG Kirton & Sons, £141 for Suffolks, Lleyns at £137, Mules at £132 and very plain Beulah £63.50. Regardless of size or shape, trade would be very strong throughout the sale, with a large proportion of the higher prices for ewes in the latter part of the sale reflecting very powerful buying support. Heavy overfat Ewes £130 to £140 Leaner Suffolk/cross-bred Ewes £120 to £135 Continental Ewes £120 to £159 North Country Mules £80 to £110 Strong Hill Ewes £60 to £80 Mules much dearer especially for leaner sorts, no more than half meated Mules £95 and very plain ewes £78 plus. Plenty of hill ewes which attracted strong bidding, lean Beulahs to £63.50, small hill Cheviots £91, improved Welsh £89 and small Welsh mountain ewes to £45. Good entries of ewes required next week.
