BRIDGNORTH LIVESTOCK MARKET
WEEKLY REPORT – 02.02.21 165 PRIME CATTLE
Auctioneer – Mark Burgoyne 07831 192603
Very much a more mixed bunch of cattle penned this morning. Best
sorts were very dear consequently, with butcher’s heifers and well
finished beasts with shape seeing a great result. Many cattle on
the leaner-side of ideal but still sold pretty well with buyers needing
cattle back to kill.
Good steer numbers forward with best sorts selling to 256p/kg or
£1,570 in the lump. Several dairy bred types and overagers are
included in the averages.
A sharp trade on the heifers with two stars selling to 289p/kg with
4 others above 280p/kg. Best heavy females in shorter supply
today and sold just short of £1,500.
Bull trade was firm with a strong Holstein influence in the averages
once again. Continental bulls topped at 225p/kg or £1,814 in the
lump. Friesian Holsteins were very well sold to 214p/kg with plenty
past 190p/kg.
37 Cows and 4 Overage Steers
Plenty of cows forward this morning but with not too much meat
about. British Blue cross cows sold to 136p/kg for 624kg, with
816kg Blonde cows to 135p/kg. Overage Angus steers sold to
160p/kg with meat at 700kg. Good cow entries required each week
– the lorries are waiting!
103 CLEAN CATTLE
ONLY 28 STEERS SOLD TO OV.AV. 193P/KG
Shapey British Blues from Andrew Bishop sold to 256p/kg for
574kg, with red Limmies from Evans Curdale to 243p/kg for 522kg.
Frank Millichamp’s Blondes took third spot at 233p/kg for 580kg.
Peter & Simon Raybould saw their heavy Limmie steers add up
nicely to £1,569.50 for 730kg, closely followed by Steve Jones’
Limousin at £1,545.12 at 696kg.
75 HEIFERS SOLD TO OV. AV. 215P/KG
Not too many best types forward this morning saw early riser
Andrew Bishop top here also selling his best two Limousins to
289p/kg for 516kg and 582kg respectively. 516kg from Roger
Jordin sold to 284p/kg, with Richard Parkes and Evans Curdale both
selling their best to 282p/kg, with the Evans family also achieving a
very respectable 281p/kg. Many other prices of note please see
below.
62 BULLS SOLD TO OV.AV. 192P/KG
Bulls definitely more money today but a few better sorts forward.
Davies, Plwmp headed the suckler bulls at 225p/kg for 614kg
Limousins, with cracking Blondes from Dan Watkins selling to
224p/kg at 810kg. James, Bryngolau sold their Limousins to
222p/kg and 220p/kg with James, Ciliau Hwnt selling Angus to
217p/kg for 810kg and Charolais to 216p/kg.
It must be noted that Dan Watkins’ Blonde sailed to £1,814.40 in
the lump with Richard Pugh selling Charolais to £1,791.04 for
925kg. A tremendous black & white trade saw square Friesians
from Simon Pennington selling to 214p/kg with Richard Yates
selling to 194p/kg and 196p/kg, with Fleckvieh to 194p/kg from Bob
Mayer.
50 plus bulls needed each week please.

OBITUARY
JACK WOOD, FROM TINKERS CASTLE, SEISDON
It is with great sadness to learn of the loss of Jack, aged 72
years, who unfortunately contracted the Coronavirus on 19th
January.
Our sympathies go to his family, especially Tom, and our
thoughts are with Jane, his longstanding partner, as she is also
suffering with Covid. His friendly face, his outlying store cattle
and of course his occasional moans will be greatly missed
around Bridgnorth Market.
