Dear Conference Attendees,

It is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the Third Annual Bridging the Hearts and Minds of Youth conference. Ever since we first began to tell people of our interest in offering this conference dedicated to the dissemination of mindfulness to the next generation, interest and enthusiasm has been amazing!

You already know the highlights of the program because you are here, but I want to take this opportunity to formally acknowledge some steadfast and generous supporters, without whom we would not all be gathering this weekend for this amazing conference.

First and foremost, the 1440 Foundation very generously stepped up and offered to underwrite the costs of the pre-conference “unconference” and we are deeply grateful for their heartfelt support. Please note their materials available at the conference and see some of the work that they do in the world by visiting their website at http://1440.org

Mindful Magazine and Mindful.org have been consistent supporters of our work at the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness, and especially in regard to this conference. We are very grateful for all that they do for our field, and all that they have done to help us spread the word about the conference. Consider subscribing to the magazine if you wish to keep up on the latest in our field.

Of course we are grateful to all our conference presenters, including our keynote speakers who took the time to be here with us and to make this an amazing gathering.

Sara Schairer of Compassion It will be visible at the conference, along with her organization’s bracelets, promoting compassionate action in the world. We are grateful for her compassionate presence at this gathering and all the work she is doing to help us create a more compassionate and mindful society.

If you see them at the conference, please thank our very hard working conference organizing committee, who put in countless hours to put together the conference agenda and all that goes with that. Amy Saltzman, Randye Semple, Amy Garrett, Rosemary Coleman and Allan Goldstein all deserve your gratitude for their efforts.

Finally, on a personal note, I want to thank Allan Goldstein, Managing Director of the UCSD Center for Mindfulness, and truly the “man behind the scenes” of the Bridging conference. His tireless efforts at marketing, coordinating, organizing and creating community are reflected in the success of the conference. Without him there would be no conference and without him the Center would not be what it is. Not by far. Stop by the Center for Mindfulness table or stop him in the hall and thank him for what he has done to make this event what it is.

Thank you for registering and attending the conference. I hope you enjoy it and that you get all that you hoped you would get and more!

Sincerely,

Steven D. Hickman, PsyD Program Chair Executive Director of the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness Clinical Psychologist and Associate Clinical Professor UC San Diego Departments of Psychiatry and Family & Preventive Medicine
