Welcome to Bridge to ASEAN project. Here you will not only be helping the Thai community in terms of preparing for the borderless AEC, but you will also gain cultural exposure of Thailand as well as other ASEAN members around you.

Overview •  Bridge to ASEAN will be executed in: AIESEC in Local Committee Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology

Time frame EP arrival date: 16th January 2015 (PREFERRRED or earlier) Project start date: 17th January 2015 (REQUIRED) Project end date: 28th February 2015 (REQUIRED) Note: Airport pick-up will be provided on 16th January from 8am until 9pm. EPs arriving on 16th earlier than 8am must wait at the airport until someone picks up. EPs arriving before 16th must find his/her own transport & accommodation EPs arriving on 16th after 9pm but wishes to be picked up will have to pay extra transport fee.

About Bridge to ASEAN Bridge to ASEAN project: -  Is a youth development project on non-formal educational engagement

designed to improve the quality of education and preparation for the integration of AEC 2015.

-  The project aims to offer Thai students an educational curriculum that

complements the formal education system and to develop their soft skills & personal development.

Objectives •  To create the cross-cultural understanding among Thais

& interns. •  To develop English skills to the Thai students. •  To experience in Thai culture and local life in Thailand. •  To promote culture diversity to the society. •  To promote Thailand and Thai culture worldwide. •  To make an impact on the Thai students •  To develop young international volunteers to become the

leaders of tomorrow with positive values. •  To gain knowledge and skills to implement back in home

countries.

Value Propositions •  EPs get to live locally with Thais •  EPs get to work with the interested issues •  EPs get cultural exposure & exchange among

others exclusively within the ASEAN nationalities

•  EPs get to learn from other EPs about AEC •  EPs get to experience Thailand as a country •  EPs get to learn Thai & adapt with their daily

routines

Targets •  +15 SEA interns per have •  + 200 Thai high school & university students

(age 16 – 23) •  High schools & University with proficient

English •  Approximately 8 educational institutions •  60 – 70 AIESECers involved in project

management

Project implementation •  Bridge to ASEAN is carried out in different

universities and high schools in or near Bangkok.

•  Interns will be allocated & informed about their institution by after they got matched.

•  Interns will work at ONE place throughout the project.

•  There will be 2-3 interns per place.

Interns’ Job Description •  Conduct research on 10 provided topics under

3 sections regarding AEC •  Design sessions relevant to the topic •  Deliver the sessions (can be PPT, activities etc.) •  Help facilitating other interns during their main

sessions as home group leaders •  Conduct an extra cross cultural workshops •  Organize debates for students on AEC

“Ready” Section•  Identify own strengths & weaknesses so that

they become aware of them, developing basic project management skills and understanding that people are different

•  The sessions identify the vocational characteristics (talents) of the participants with the goals for better career choices

•  Participants will understand the importance of their personal values in life & identify their vision & mission in life with the opportunities available

3) Why “Design Thinking”? •  Define the concept of design thinking: - Defining problems - Coming up with alternate solutions -  Making the most suitable questionnaire -  Brainstorming - Coming up with different prototypes to solve problems - Try it with the stakeholders

“Get Set” Section•  Offers basic theory of team management & basic

leadership skills, inspiring Thai youth to “be the difference they want to see in life”.

•  Offers an overview on how things are organized in the business world and on how to create a basic financial sustainable business plan.

•  Develop a “can-do attitude” in participants & help them identify the importance of being proactive in their activities

•  Related to values, Thai students will learn how to recognize environmental influences, identify and develop a clear and meaningful set of beliefs and priorities.

“Go” SectionAt the end of this programme, the participants will develop their communication skills and feedback skills, understanding how to formulate a correct message and what constructive feedback is versus criticizing. They learn about personal effectiveness, how to be more organized and how to use two project management tools: Management Table and the Gantt Chart in a practical way. Again, the sessions are conceived to develop a “can-do attitude” in participants and help them identify the importance of being proactive in their activities, prepare better presentations and make sure they send out the right message to their audience. The following trainings will help Thai youth understand how to present themselves and the concept of debate.

•  Because Thai soft culture is incompatible with the aggressiveness in the business world

Provisions for EPs •  Airport pick-up (within our mentioned pick-up date &

time only) •  2 – day preparation seminar on Thailand (culture,

people etc.) •  Trainee buddy for every intern •  Accommodation (rooms for 1-2 persons of the same

gender) •  Food may or may not be provided depending on the

host. However, Bangkok has a lot of cheap food. Note: •  Living conditions may be very basic. •  Wifi or hot water may not be provided •  Interns can NOT choose whom to stay with

Exchange Programme flow

•  Interns must arrive in Thailand according to our agenda, or else interns may have to wait several hours at the airport until someone picks up.

•  Interns must give the flight details latest 2 weeks prior to their arrival.

•  Preparation camp & buddy orientation on the following day.

•  A Facebook group will be created to allow all interns to communicate with each other.

•  Farewell Party at the end of the project.

Agenda: Dates Activities

What we expect from interns… •  Pay a project fee of 2700 Baht (around $90) for operational costs (transport, IPS etc.) •  Enter Thailand with non-immigration type O visa only. •  Have travel/health insurance that is covered in Thailand. •  Bring pocket money for food and for the accommodation after farewell party. •  Bring traditional items (costume, flags, food etc.) for global village •  Be proactive (look what’s around you, solve problems!) •  Be attentive (be a good listener & be motivated) •  Be well-behaved (good manners, humble) •  Work hard & learn new things everyday •  Bring learned things back to their countries •  Be good leaders (inspirational, decisive, responsible) •  Always inform local staff if they are going somewhere •  Stay safe, be careful. •  To positively impact on people’s lives

DOs in Thailand •  Respect all Buddha images. They are sacred. •  Dress properly when visiting a temple (shoulders & legs covered). •  Remove your shoes before entering a temple and somebody’s house •  Treat monks with the highest respect. •  Lower your body slightly when passing between or in front of people. •  Try and learn a few basic phrases in Thai, like „hello‟ and „thank

you‟. •  Smile a lot. Understanding the Thai smile •  Enjoy yourself & relax. Thais like life to be “sanook” and “sabaii

sabaii”. •  “Wai” to greet, thank or apologize to someone.

DON’Ts in Thailand •  Don’t show disrespect towards the Thai Royal Family. •  Don’t show public display of affection (PDA). Holding hands is enough. No

kissing •  Don’t sunbathe nude. Nudity in public is offensive to Thai people. •  Don’t worry too much about whether you should wai or not. But it’s good to wai. •  Don’t touch a Thai person’s head or ruffle their hair. Apologize if you

accidentally touch somebody’s head. Adults touching children’s heads are fine. •  Don’t place your feet on the table while sitting, don’t point to anything or touch

anybody with your feet. •  Don’t be offended by questions about age, marital status or what you do for a

living. These are subjects that will often come up in small-talk. •  Don’t take Buddha images out of the country or cross your legs in front of

monks. •  Don’t overstay your visa.
