VOL. 44, ISSUE 11 A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF THE INDY CHAPTER OF THE STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB, NOVEMBER, 2017

Charlie & Becky Griffith hosted a very nice lunch at Blackerby's Hanger 5 at Columbus Airport. What a surprise we had as Air Force 2 was sitting on the runway right in front of the windows of the restaurant. We did not see Vice President Pence but maybe he got to see the nice group of Studebaker's that were parked out front! Nancy Bacon Indy Chapter President

On what became a beautiful Saturday, 25 members and guests met at Blackerby’s Hanger 5 in Columbus,

Indiana. As an additional surprise, vice president Mike Pence plane was

sitting just outside our windows. Unfortunately we were not allowed to board.

Nancy Bacon opened the meeting with members introducing their guests. Vice

president, Diane Elmore announced great news. Officers for 2018 are

already in place so there will be no elections in November, we will only need

to approve the officers. Treasurer, Tom Flynn informed Nancy that the club

has nearly $7,000 in funds. He thinks that is too much for a club our size.

Suggestions were: donate more to the Studebaker Museum, support the

Studebaker Foundation, perhaps help pay for the clubs Christmas dinner,

reduce dues or sponsor a free event. Please

give this thought as we will discuss this

further at the next meeting. Nancy will also check with the by-laws to see

what we can and cannot do.

Members, Larry and Sue Kennedy are also members of Indiana Landmarks.

They have invited the club to several upcoming events that they believe the

club would enjoy participating in. More information on page 4.

Nancy has raffle tickets for the National Studebaker Museum. $50.00 per

ticket or 3 tickets for $100.00. First prize is $20,000 or a car, 2nd prize is

$5,000, 10 special prize winners will receive $100 dollars. Go to

If you're like most collectors, you'd like to buy alcohol-free gasoline for your collector cars. Did you know there's a station in your back yard on the east side of Ellettsville with no-alcohol gas? It's the CITGO station on the north side of IN 46, east side of Ellettsville. I stopped and filled my Wagonaire there on the way home. 'Gotta pre-pay inside; that pump doesn't take credit cards. Thankfully, there are a lot more stations coming on line with alcohol-free gasoline at one pump; the CountryMark Co-Op station in "downtown" Clermont, near raceway Park, now has a dedicated alcohol-free pump ($2.97 yesterday; I'm winterizing my collector cars this week), as does the new SUNOCO station further west of us in Lizton. There's long been one on the west side of Lebanon on IN 32; the CountryMark Co-Op has had an alcohol-free pump for some time.

Here's a neat old picture posted this morning on our SDC Forum's long-running Studebakers in Roadside Americana thread. One each for us: a Hudson (year, model?) and a 1955 second-series Studebaker President State sedan; the most expensive 1955 Studebaker. Note both the Stude and the Hudson being lower than the [1954?] Olds between them. ('Looks like the Stude has been tapped in the tail; that bumper end is curled up a little.)

New member, Kris Renner (L) with her

daughter who works at the Atterbury-Bakalar

Air Museum the group visited.

Member, Bob Palma is having surgery October 31. Keep Bob in your thoughts and prayers. On a brighter note you may be interested to know that the December 2017 Hemmings Classic Car currently on newsstands contains Bobs column about the Avanti versus Lark 1962 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car nonsense, "Myth Busters."

Member, Charlie Griffith is having surgery November 14 to repair a damaged knee.
