Cheerleading Competition On Friday night before a capacity crowd at West Jr. Hi , our BYA cheerleaders and Twirlers put on a dazzling per- formance. All the teams displayed their talents well. In the traveling team com- petition the Barracuda cheerleaders won first place and in the Intra-murals the Cheyenne cheerleaders came out on top . Brentwood Library The Reference Department of the Brentwood Public Library would like to advise residents that the "Editorial Research Report *' , a useful reference tool , is now available for use in the Libra ry . The "Editorial Research Report ". put out by Congressional Quarterly Inc., is a monthly news magazine that also appears in a yearly hardbound edition. The "Report " researches news items of special interest and breaks the information down into three basic sections : input of subjects and major issues ; in- depth reporting; historical development. The "Editorial Research Report " focuses on such interest areas as minority voting rights , air fare control , marijuana and the law , and the U.S. volunteer army, pros and cons. Students with research projects, special interest groups and followers of the news will find the "Editorial Research Report" a helpful and easy-to-use reference tool. Interested residents may ask for the "Report " at the Library ' s main desk. Handicapped Artists Show Works Two handicapped artists in Islip Town ' s Handicapped Program will display an exhibition of their works in the Main Street School , 401 Main Street , Islip, for the next three weeks " which shows that being handicapped doesn 't necessarily smother creative ability. " James J. Graham , 29 , a triplegic since an automobile accident when he was 18 , will provide some of his sketches and James J. Dugoniths , 24, who has been a quadriplegic since 11 , a result of Muscular Dystrophy, will show his etching series. Graham , who has both legs and his right hand disabled and learned to do his activities with his left , attended Nassau Com- munity College and State University at Farmingdale. He plays the guitar and also Is active with the Islip Town Handicapped Action Line. Dugoniths is a graduate of Hofstra University and attended Marshall University in West Virginia working towards a Master 's degree in art. The general public is invited to view the exhibit Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through December 12th. The artists will attend a final days open house from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday December 12th. Riding Courses Offered B y PAL The Police Athletic League will begin a horseback riding training program for boys and girls ages 8-18 it was announced by Lt. George Sloane , PAL Command- ing Officer. Jerry Napolitano , owner of the Bar 7 Stables , 560 BIydenburgh Rd., Hauppauge , has offered his indoor and outdoor arenas , horses and instructors to PAL. Members will be taught the proper method of grooming, cleaning and care of horse and tack. Basic riding instructions will be given by experienced instructors in one hour sessions once weekly. Members will be divided according to experience. The cost per member is $2.50 ($1.50 insurance , $1 PAL membership). The cost per lesson is$5. An official at Beale AFB , Calif., has announced the promotion of Gerard T. Hunt to airman first class in the U. S. Air Force. Airman Hunt , son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerard A. Hunt of 90 Floyd St., Brentwood , is a munitions maintenance specialist with a unit of the Strategic Air Command. The airman is a 1971 graduate of Brentwood High School. Loretta Park PTA in con- junction with the 6th grade class will hold a Flea Market on Friday, Dec. 5th from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the school gym. A wide variety of items will be available including plants , plant hangars , jewelry, candles many Christmas ornaments and white elephants. All the public are invited. With the Holiday Season fast approaching there are many Flea Market Sales going on. The Brentwood Branch of the American Cancer Society is having their annual Flea Market and Rummage Sale on Saturday, December 6th from 12 noon until 5:30 p.m. Many good used items and new items will be available. Chester , son of Mr. and Mrs. James Chester of 71 Saint Peters Drive , Brentwood , has been appointed a midshi pman under the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Colleg e Program at the university of Michigan , Ann Arbor. Men and women arc- selected for this program on the basis of scholastic aptitude , high school grades , character references , leadership potential and physical qualifications. They receive military instruction in addition to regular academic studies. Upon graduation , Chester will be commissioned a Navy ensign or Marine Corps second lieutenant. Brentwood s South Junior High Twirling and Kickline teams each returned with first prize trophies in their first contest of the school year , held at Bay Shore High School. The Kickline team consists of 40 girls and the twirling team of thirteen. The trophies may be seen by the public displayed in the school lobby. The next contest the girls will be participating in is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 14, at Massapequa High School.
