Company Overview
Greenbyte AB, the company behind Breeze, was founded in 2010 based on the firm belief that the inherent variability in the “fuels”, for renewable electricity production make the industry highly dependent on quality data to create value.
During the company’s life time this belief has proven to become increasingly important. Value creation in the renewable energy industry is dependent on high quality data from measurement assets.
With so many actors in the value chain dependent on data to create value there is a need for products leveraging modern software to make the data more useful. Greenbyte has created Breeze Development for wind energy project developers and Breeze Production for wind turbine owners.
Breeze is used globally by customers in the Nordics, Belgium, Poland, UK, France, Netherlands, Israel, South Africa, Australia, Philippines, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

A professional, complete and high quality wind assessment campaign is key for successful wind farm development.
Most wind farm project development organizations operate on slim budgets and tough decisions on what to prioritize.
Breeze Development is a cost efficient way to ensure that when the time comes to scrutinize wind data for the sale or funding of a project, the wind data are of high quality.
Breeze collects data from met masts, SODAR, LIDAR and remote power supplies and informs the user in a timely manner if anything is wrong with the data and if actions need to be taken. This is an important task and should not be left to a single staff member. Breeze systematizes and provides structure to data collection.
Since Breeze Development is completely independent of measurement equipment manufacturers and consultants Breeze Development is always on the side of the project developer and
facilitates the evaluation of sub contractor performance.
High quality measurement campaigns not only make projects easier to fund but also increase the valuation of projects as the risk of wind resource uncertainty is minimized.

E.ON is one of the world’s largest investor-owned power and gas companies. E.ON is on track to invest billions of Euro in wind power in the coming 5 years.
To invest in the most profitable wind power projects E.ON perform extensive wind measurement activities worldwide. A deep knowledge about the wind resource is a way to reduce risk and invest in the most profitable projects.
In 2012 E.ON placed headquarters for onshore wind power in Malmö, Sweden. In line with a centralized organization for wind power development E.ON chose Breeze to manage wind data in a centralized platform. Processes, knowledge sharing and structure relating to wind data is now streamlined in the Breeze platform.
With Breeze multi-vendor approach E.ON can use streamlined processes for data management and reporting from met towers, SODAR and LIDAR equipment.
“Breeze speeds up learning processes and wind know-how with faster feedback loops through instant access to data.”
Adil Morina, E.ON

Jämtvind has a pragmatic approach to selection of measurement equipment, using SODARs in the indicative phase of its measurement campaigns.
For the projects that prove most promising IEC compliant met masts will be used and SODARs will be moved to new projects for early site assessment.
All historic measurements and current measurement campaigns are stored in Breeze. Jämtvind personnel and a network of sub contractors perform service and maintenance of measurement equipment.
“The Breeze system helps us maximize returns from investments in measurement equipment. We use the Breeze system as a third-party benchmark towards manufacturers of measurement equipment. Easy access to key data, backups and reporting capabilities save us time and headaches from data management.” – says Project Manager Jonas Larsson

With ambitious targets for wind power expansion and high internal commitment to quality Göteborg Energi is rigorous about data quality assurance.
The automatic data quality control functions and manual data control work flows in the Breeze system are used every day.
The Wind Resource Expert group now spend 10 minutes per day performing manual quality assurance of wind data in Breeze. This compares to previous routines of downloading data files from each met mast and SODAR. Then opening them in a client based software and saving the file to a server. Work flows in Breeze make work a lot more time efficient while increasing data quality through quick failure detection.
Malfunctions in equipment are discovered quickly. Göteborg Energi can now take action early and have data sets with high integrity and consistent data quality – a necessity to perform robust Annual Energy Production calculations upon which to base investment decisions.
“We take wind power very seriously and have expanded our exposure to wind power significantly during the recent years. During 2011 we installed the largest wind power turbine in Sweden”
Jonas Cognell, Göteborg Energi

Breeze utilizes the Amazon Web Services, state-of-the-art datacenters, utilizing industry-leading architectural and engineering approaches.
Client data is stored in an encrypted private database which is in turn stored within a private virtual cloud within the Amazon infrastructure, ensuring that only permitted network traffic can reach the database. There is no way to directly access the private database.
Amazon’s data centers are housed in nondescript facilities. Physical access is strictly controlled both at the perimeter and at building ingress points by professional security staff. Authorized staff must pass two-factor authentication a minimum of two times to access data center floors.
10-minute averaged data is pushed to a special area within the Amazon infrastructure which is designed to provide 99.999999999% durability over a given year. The entire private client database, including the long time storage, is backed up daily to further minimize the risk of data loss.
Data Security Data Collection
Breeze clients get their own private encrypted database in Breeze where data is stored immediately, without any intermediary storage.
Data is stored in a way that ensures both physical and local integrity. Breeze normally collects data on a daily basis via email or FTP from met masts, SODAR and LIDAR.
Besides collecting data, Breeze aggregates data points for 10-minute average values for long-term storage.
Installation & Support
37
New met masts, SoDAR or LiDARs can be added to Breeze at any time. In general, the installation process for a measurement unit looks like this:
1. Customer requests new unit installation in Breeze
2. Customer forwards emails or FTP to a designated Breeze customer email or FTP account such as [email protected] or ftp://customer.breezesystem.com
3. The Breeze installation team sets up data extraction from email or FTP to store data in the Breeze database. All raw data files are also stored, backed up and readily v through Breeze.

Word from the CEO
Electricity production from renewable energy is experiencing massive growth. Beyond growth, there exists a big upside in understanding the underlying often very volatile fuels and how they affect production levels and financial yield metrics.
We have seen production increases that have been realized after understanding how production assets perform in different weather conditions and tuning them accordingly. This of course requires IT systems that provide useful metrics - that is what we do.
Increased production levels is a good thing for many stake holders:
1. Consumers get cheaper electricity
2. Owners get increased return on investment. Increased production levels have an almost direct impact on the bottom line.
3. The world gets cleaner electricity production
We find that creating products to provide insights that generate so much positive influence is an incredibly rewarding endeavour.
