Materials & Preparation

The intent of this major project is for the candidate to develop professional-level teaching capability through creation of the project. The finished project is intended for use in the candidate's own band program as a means of helping students develop in Breathing Gym® techniques.

Small Group Project Details Final Project (Groups of 8-10)

Participants should create one (1) Breathing Gym® sequence of exercises to address a specific challenge they face in their own teaching situation. (i.e. time constraints, age appropriateness, performance topics like warm-up, phrasing, articulation, tone, etc.). Make an appropriate video and upload to CWU. Video examples and techniques will be discussed during the Breathing Gym sessions in addition to the Breathing Gym® Daily Workouts DVD.

Sequences should be appropriate for the situation in terms of length, content and presentation. For example, a warm up sequence for elementary band students should be 2-4 minutes maximum with different content and presentation style than a marching band sequence which would be more involved in length, content as well as a different presentation style.
