From the Pastor’s DeskWe continue to see new guests in worship. In my conversation with these new people I have discovered that most came because they were invited by someone else active in the life of Christ Church. The best form of advertising is by word-of-mouth, people telling other people. Jesus is most often made known through word-of-mouth advertising. Only the Shepherds at the first Christmas heard the good news from

angels. Only the Wise Men were led by a Star. Just a comparative few were touched by miracles, there were just over a dozen close disciples, but almost everybody who came to know Jesus did so because those few spread the word and those they told came to know Him too and continued to spread the word as well. We are expected to do the same and as you do you help in our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Look for opportunities to share with others what your faith means to you and invite them to church so they can join us in experiencing God’s love, grow in faith themselves, and know Christ as Lord and Savior.

As you spread the word and invite others remember though that it may take a few invites before you see any results; be patient, keep praying for them, keep inviting them, and as much as you can remove any barriers they have. An example of removing barriers happened in July. One those new guests I mentioned had been coming to church for a while and then was gone for a few Sundays. When we checked in with them it was discovered that they no longer had access to transportation. When one of our members found out they offered to pick this new person up for worship until they get transportation again. This new guest is grateful for the continued connection with Christ Church and even brought a friend recently. Now that’s doing whatever it takes to take down barriers and connect someone with Christ through His church!

Word of mouth evangelism and offering invitations is a powerful way to help carry out our mission to reach people for Christ so they too may know and experience His transforming love. Remember, your words and actions may be the only witness someone encounters and your invitation(s) or ride may be what God uses to make a difference in someone’s life. We all take part in word of mouth advertising every day as we tell others about the great meal deal at a restaurant or the store with good sales; let’s do the same for our Lord Jesus Christ, after all His message is so much more important and spreading it is key if we are to be effective in our mission to make more disciples of Jesus Christ! So get out there and spread the word!

God Bless, Pastor George J. Kafer

P.S. While enjoying the weather this summer thank you for your continued offerings of presence, prayers, talents, and finances that help us together do God’s good work!

We have bundles of worship invite cards in the entryways to take and give out: Put a stack at your office, store or place of work. Ask if you can set a stack out in a business that you frequent. Give them to neighbors, friends and co-workers. Leave them on tables at restaurants to invite your server (leave a tip, too). Give them out in drive thru lanes. Ask God to give you an opportunity to give them out. Keep a few in your wallet, purse or car.

Apportionment GivingChrist Church has a history of 100% apportionment giving, allowing us to help transform lives by God’s love. Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2017 our apportionment is $44,220; if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $200 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)! Check the connection table for Electronic Fund Transfer forms and ways to give of your time and talent as well. As you respond to God’s call in the giving of your time, talent, and resources remember if you have a need contact Pastor George.
