PRODUCER’S NOTE

W elcome to the Village Playhouse’s presentation

of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, adapted for

the stage by Frank McGuinness.

A Doll’s House premiered at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen,

Denmark, on December 21, 1879. This play was open to much

criticism with an ending that didn’t fit societal norms. The play

is significant for its critical attitude toward marriage and the roles

people have to play in society.

A Doll’s House may have been written long ago, but the themes

are relatable in today’s world. One theme is that women are

struggling for an equal say and equal rights, in today's world as

much as yesterday's world. I like a show that is able to transcend

time.

The dialogue is good, the character development is great, and

there’s no one character who is purely evil or wholesomely good.

But there’s still plenty of conflict. It’s more interesting to have

characters who are multi-dimensional; it adds to the relatability

of the story.

A good story will draw me in, and that’s why producing this

show has been a pleasure.

I know you’ll enjoy it!

Dominic Bartos (Child) is so excited to be in his first play!

His mommy and daddy met while studying theatre at Wisconsin

Lutheran College so you could say he was made for the stage. In

his spare time, Dominic enjoys digging for dinosaur bones, jump-

ing like Spiderman, and learning all he can about this big world.

He'd like to thank the cast, the crew ("Auntie Deanna got me this

gig!"), his beautiful mommy, and all his family.

Rita Bates (Kristine Linde) After almost 4 years with Village

Playhouse, working behind the scenes and in a handful of very

small acting roles, Rita is very excited to be on the stage in her

largest role yet. She would like to thank director Deanna Strasse

and fellow cast mates for having faith that she could do this. She

would also like to thank various friends and family for believing

in her.

Mary Breitrick (Helene) is looking forward to being back on

stage with Village Playhouse. She is a long-time member and

has served in many capacities with the group over the years, both

on stage and off. A Village Playhouse production is always a

rewarding experience.

David Dawursk (Torvald Helmer) This is David's fourth

show with the Village Playhouse. He would like to thank

Deanna for never asking him to audition for a show here. He

would also like to thank TriStar Pictures for releasing David's

biggest inspiration: 1986's Short Circuit. He hopes you enjoy the

show and wants you to know that he is nicer in person than he

appears on stage.

Melody Lopac (Nora Helmer) is happy to be telling stories on

the stage again working with director and friend, Deanna Strasse.

Melody graduated from UW-Milwaukee's Peck School of the

Arts with a BA in Theatre Studies. Favorite credits include Car-

nelle in The Miss Firecracker Contest, and Bridgit in Death by

CAST BIOGRAPHIES

Design, which had two runs with Milwaukee Entertainment

Group in 2015 and 16. She sends love and thanks to friends and

family who came to support her in A Doll's House.

Ava Lopez (Child) is very happy to be making her debut with

Village Playhouse. She'd like to thank everyone involved, espe-

cially her mom and Aunt Lindsay. "Enjoy the show!"

Juliano Mendez (Child) is a creative 12-year-old with a char-

ismatic personality who aspires to be an actor. His hobbies are

soccer, dancing and skateboarding. He portrayed Magyar in the

play Mulan Jr. in 2016, modeled in a 2013 Wedding Expo, and

was in a photo shoot for El Conquistador Latino Newspaper in

2012.

Scott Sorensen (Dr. Rank) is grateful to be a part of this show

and to help share this story. Many thanks to the cast, crew and

production team. Thanks also to the Village Playhouse and In-

spiration Studios for their focus on the arts—so vital and such

an important part of WHO WE ARE! Once again, never-ending

love to the late Aric Fisher. As for YOU, sit back and enjoy the

show!

Scott Stenstrup (Nils Krogstad) is proud to be doing his fourth

show here at Village Playhouse. Scott has been re-acting for

about 5 years now after many years away from the stage. Some

of his most enjoyable shows have been Anything Goes at Imagi-

nation Theatre (Eli Whitney), Eurydice at Village Playhouse

(Father), and Little Shop of Horrors at New Berlin Community

Theatre (Orin Scrivelo). Scott would like to thank his cast mates

and director for making this a truly memorable experience. He

would also like to thank his family and friends for putting up

with this insanity that is called theatre. Mostly he would like to

thank you, the audience, for without your support of live theatre

we would not be able to have the experience that we have.
