Brazil’s sports minister, Aldo Rebelo, has acknowledged that his country’s 7-1 loss toGermany would l eave a “deep scar” on the nation’s football psyche but said it could not be compared to the 1950 Maracanazo .

Rebelo, who was a key driver behind a congressional inquiry into the Brazilian FootballConfederation and the way the game is run in 2001, called for an overhaul of facilitiesand coaching to improve the development of young players.

Although the heavy defeat would leave a lasting mark on Brazilian football, he said itshould act as the catalyst for a wide-ranging overhaul of domestic football so fewerplayers left for Europe at a young age. Even in the under-15 side, many Brazilian players were already based abroad, he said.

“It will be a deep scar for our football. But the best attitude we should adopt is to analysethe root causes and long lasting causes of that disaster,” said Rebelo. “Learn the lessons, try to correct them and overcome these failings so this doesn’t happen again. So thatBrazil can have a national squad with the status it should have in world football.”

Brazil’s domestic league h as supplied the four most recent winners of the CopaLibertadores but has been scarred by hooliganism, falling attendances and the ongoingexodus of young players to Europe.

Last season, players conducted a series of protests under the banner of the Bom SensoFC (Common Sense) movement, calling for a reorganisation of the congested andconfusing fixture calendar.

“We are discussing special legislation with the clubs to make their management moremodern, taking on more responsibilities and commitment in terms of financialaccountability and in terms of the calendar and the respect of the players,” said Rebelo.“We are already quite advanced in this. This effort should be done regardless of ourdefeat to Germany.”

He said that Brazil had to stop exporting its national talent at such a young age, withplayers only tending to return from Europe at the end of their careers.

“We should also do the utmost to increase the quality of the management of our clubs.

Many critics have mentioned that we have problems that h ave to be faced,” he said. “Weexport prime material and import finished products in terms of football. We export ourstar players, not only those playing but those being prepared.”

Rebelo said the new legislation and the new training grounds built for the World Cup would help Brazil retain more homegrown talent.

“Our legislation makes it easy to export players abroad. We have the power in the handsof the entrepreneurs, the Europeans. They are experts in football services,” he said. “Weexport the raw material. It is easy to do because you package it and you send it. Forfootball services you have to add management and infrastructure that we don’t have.”

He said the humiliation in Belo Horizonte could not be compared tothe Maracanazo when Brazil lost a game against Uruguay that they only had to draw tolift the cup.

“That squad at the time was considered to be much better than what we have today. The1950 squad was a constellation of star players. The defence was very good, the forwards were incredible playe rs,” he said, running through some of the names.

Whereas he has previously described the 1950 defeat as a “national tragedy”, Rebelosaid that following the draw against Mexico in the group stage and the narrow victoryover Chile on penalties it “wasn’t a big surprise” that they lost to Germany.

But he said the manner of the 7- 1 defeat was a “terrible blemish”. “It was an accident, but if you analyse the causes of the accident that’s a different story,” he said.

Rebelo said that what had impressed him most about the tournament, which has causedcontroversy because of its $11bn price tag at a time of anger over under-investment inpublic services, was the attitude of both Brazilian and overseas fans.

“I watched a few matches and felt very emotional. The big s urprise was the Brazil vGermany match. We knew it would be difficult but we didn’t expect that kind ofperformance,” he said. “I’ll take with me the happy moments I had watching with myfriends and at home. The happiness of the Brazilian supporters and having the WorldCup in my country.”

Germans nagpakita ng 'fantastic rhythm' kaya kami tinalo - Brazil coach Scolari

By Bombo sports center Posted in Sports News Wednesday, 09 July 2014

''What happened is that Germany at a given moment imposed a fantastic rhythm and was able to scorethe goals that defined the match,'' ani Scolari. ''The German team was fantastic.''

''I think we lost something there. Suddenly they noticed and scored the goals,'' wika pa ni Luiz, naumiskor sa huli nilang dalawang laro. ''It's difficult to explain now. It's a dream that has ended, and not

the way we wanted it to.'' (fifa)

2014 FIFA World Cup: Germany Defeats Brazil 7-1, Reaches Final

Without Neymar, Brazilian Team Has Complete Meltdown

By ALYSSA NEWCOMB

Brazil had a meltdown -- and the entire world was watching.

Playing without star striker Neymar, the Brazilian team was battered by Germany today 7-1 during asemifinal match at the World Cup.

Deflated Brazil fans were seen sobbing in the stands in Belo Horizonte during the first half as the

Germans continued to score goal after goal without seeming to even break a sweat. The Germans led 5-0 after 29 minutes.

Defender David Luiz, who served as captain for the Brazilian side during the match, held back tears afterthe game when he expressed his disappointment for the devastating loss.

Captain Thiago Silva was also absent, forced to sit out after previously receiving two yellow cards andserving a one-game suspension. But the man on everyone's minds was the heart and soul of the team --Neymar. Brazilian players wore hats honoring their teammate, who is sidelined with a back injury.

Meanwhile, thousands of cardboard Neymar masks were handed out to fans as a way to help make it

seem like Neymar was a part of the festivities.

He clearly wasn't. After the dismal showing in the first half, it was clear Brazil's energy had been zapped.

The team has never won a World Cup at home and felt mounting pressure to win the 2014 tournament.

The Brazilians lost the 1950 final 2-1 to Uruguay at Maracana Stadium, the only other time Brazil hostedthe tournament. Before today, the worst loss ever by a Brazil team was 6-0, again to Uruguay, at the1920 Copa America.

Meanwhile, the Germans set a few records of their own.

Germany scored five goals in the first 29 minutes, the fastest any team has scored five goals in any gamein World Cup history. In addition, Germany’s Miroslav Klose is now the highest goal scorer in WorldCup history. Klose has 16 career World Cup goals, breaking a tie with Brazil’s Ronaldo who had 15.

Once the game ended, Brazilian officials told German fans to stay inside the stadium for securityreasons. Brazil fans walked out stunned by the loss. There were no reports of fan violence outside thestadium following the game.

Leave it to supermodel Heidi Klum to show how her fellow Germans felt about the match.

Brazil, giniba ng Germany

Posted by Online Balita on Jul 10th, 2014 // 0 Comments

”We wanted to make the people happy, unfortunately we couldn’t,” saad ni Brazil defender David Luiz,

na nakaiskor sa kanilang huling dalawang laro. ”We apologize to all Brazilians.”

Page 6: Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

torneo.

”It was very important to stay calm, cool and courageous in facing Brazilian passion,” ani Ge rmany coachJoachim Loew.

”The responsibility for this catastrophic result is mine,” ani Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari. ”I was incharge.”

kanilang group match noong 2002.

”Brazil was shocked after the goals, they did not expect that. They did not know what to do,” ani Loew.”Their defense was not organized. A little humbleness would not hurt now.”

”Today 10 minutes went wrong in the game and Germany did really well,” sabi ni Scolari. ”It’s a chaotic

and terrible defeat, but we have to learn from it.”

”The German quality is very, very high,” ani Scolari. ”This is not normal.”

Four years later, LeBron is ready tobring success home to Cleveland

Almost exactly four years after the night of his decision to take his talents to South Beach,LeBron James is ready to bring success back home to Cleveland.

LAS VEGAS -- There it is. Four years after The Decision, after his jersey was burned on

national TV, after his owner called him a coward, after the city, the state, the region

declared him a public enemy, LeBron James is headed back to where it all started, to

Cleveland, to be the savior of the franchise he left in ruins when he moved to Miami.

Page 11: Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

SI EXCLUSIVE

LeBron: I'm coming back to Cleveland

by LeBron James (as told to Lee Jenkins)

If you think that sounds crazy, understand that you are not alone. Despite all the rumblings of a

return, despite persistent chatter that James felt the tug of his hometown, few in the NBA

believed this was possible. There was too much history. No way could James play again for

Dan Gilbert, the man who shredded him in a hastily written open letter, who mocked James on

Twitter after the Heat fell short of a title in 2011. No way James could return to the scene of one

of the NBA’s most public crimes, to the team that was reduced to a pile of Alonzo Gee -like

rubble in the four years that he's has been gone.

NBA

LeBron James' return to Cleveland shows just how much he has grown by Phil Taylor

But he did, and what are we to make of that? We now know the bond betweenLeBron and

Cleveland -- or nearby Akron, more specifically -- is stronger than anyone truly believed. “I feel

my calling here goes above basketball,” James told SI.com’s Lee Jenkins. “I have a

responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, and I take that very seriously. My presence can

Page 12: Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

8/10/2019 Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/brazil-deeply-scarred-after-germany-defeat 12/13

make a difference in Miami, but I think it can mean more where I’m from. I want kids in

Northeast Ohio, like the hundreds of Akron third-graders I sponsor through my foundation, to

realize that there’s no better place to grow up.”

That’s not lip service; people close to James are emphatic that he truly means it.

We know that he has buried the hatchet with Gilbert, the man many believed torched

any possibility of a future relationship. Yahoo! Sports reported that James and Gilbert

met for four hours earlier this month, ironing out their differences. For all of the personal

animosity between James and Gilbert, LeBron understands this: Gilbert wants to win.

There were some missteps during LeBron’s first run in Cleveland (just put

J.J. Hickson into the deal forAmar’e Stoudemire, damnit!) but Gilbert never shied away

from spending money, never feared exploding the payroll. Head coach David Blatt andG.M. David Griffin may be something of unknowns, but in Gilbert, good and bad, James

knows what he is going to get.

He knows what he is getting with the team, too. The Cavaliers are talented. They have

a franchise point guard in Kyrie Irving -- the caliber of player James never played with

during his first run there -- who they recently locked up with a long-term, max contract.

They have solid pieces in Dion Waiters , Tristan Thompson and, most notably, No. 1

overall pic kAndrew Wiggins to build around. Barring a deal for Kevin Love -- andMinnesota prefers to wait and see what the post-LeBron landscape looks like before

seriously considering a Love deal, a rival executive says -- this team will experience

growing pains. A lot of them. James gets that.

“We’re not ready right now,” James told Jenkins. “No way. Of course, I want to win next

year, but I’m realistic. It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My

patience will get tested. I know that. I’m going into a situation with a young team and a

new coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together andhelping them reach a place they didn’t know they could go. I see myself as a mentor

now and I’m excited to lead some of these talented young guys.”

But this is also a team with potential. Great potential. Ten months ago Wiggins went to

Kansas with lofty expectations. He was occasionally inconsistent and often

Page 13: Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

8/10/2019 Brazil Deeply Scarred After Germany Defeat

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/brazil-deeply-scarred-after-germany-defeat 13/13

overshadowed by fast rising teammate Joel Embiid, but Wiggins still is a dynamic two-

guard prospect. The Cavaliers roster is loaded with lottery talents that will be enhanced

by James’ superior talents. It may not be next season, as LeBron points out, but with

the addition of the kind of veteran role player or two, the kind that seem to be drawn to

James like magnets, it may not be much longer before Cleveland is a true conference

contender

EXTRA MUSTARD

Here's what Twitter is already saying about LeBron returning to Cleveland

by Nicole Conlan

Fans in Miami have the right to be disappointed, but not insulted. As bungled as the first

Decision was, this one was handled flawlessly. Sure, there was some misinformation out there

(The letter is holding this up!) and someday soon the world would like to hear

what DwyaneWade and James spent the last few days in Las Vegas talking about.

But LeBron never made any public statements. Members of his team didn’t, either. Gossip will

always fill an information vacuum. You can’t blame James for that. He made a decision that was

both practical and deeply personal, one he was fully entitled to make.

James leaves Miami in a tough position, but with a lasting legacy. The union of James,

Wade and Bosh was an unqualified success, one that yielded four straight trips to the

Finals and two championships. James didn’t deliver the five, six or seven

championships he promised on that smoke filled stage in 2010, but he did enough to

validate his decision. Now he moves on, moves home, with hope that he can bring

Cleveland that same success.
