High efficiency cooling solution Brazed shell-and-tube heat exchangers General information The brazed shell-and-tube heat exchanger is a rugged, highly efficient cooling solution designed for high pressure and high temperature applications – like transmission cooling. It’s manufactured with non-ferrous materials, which reduce thermal expansion problems, as the shell and tube are constructed of similar material and expand at the same rate. Applications Brazed shell-and-tube heat exchangers can be easily customized to fit specific customer requirements and are suitable for a variety of applications. They provide maximum efficiency, and are able to withstand high flow rates while offering a low pressure drop. An advantage of the brazed shell-and-tube design is that it is ideal for applications for varying gas and liquid flow rates. To optimize flow and velocity, the shell-side oil velocity can be changed by changing the quantity and percentage cut of the baffles. To change the tube- side velocity (tube-side liquid), simply adjust the number of multi-tube passes. The brazed shell-and-tube heat exchanger is ideal for both high and low volume production runs. The design is easily customized even for low volume and prototype production runs. General applications include: • Powertrain – diesel engine, power generation and transmissions • Heavy duty vehicles – on- and off-road and military vehicles • Marine – gas and diesel inboard and outboard engines • Specialty vehicle – fire truck, ambulance, motor coaches and transit buses (retarder and non retarder) • Commercial – Process fluids, irrigation, hydraulic oil, lube oil heat reclamation and process gas cooling. Benefits • Rugged, highly efficient cooling solution – ideal for high temperature applications. • Robust design provides maximum efficiency and is able to withstand high flow rates with low pressure drop • Ideal for applications with different liquid flows • Design reduces thermal expansion problems seen in similar coolers with dissimilar metals • Integrated, customs designs available • Complete cooling system designs available

General informationThe brazed shell-and-tube heat exchanger is a rugged, highly efficient cooling solution designed for high pressure and high temperature applications like transmission cooling. Its manufactured with non-ferrous materials, which reduce thermal expansion problems, as the shell and tube are constructed of similar material and expand at the same rate.

ApplicationsBrazed shell-and-tube heat exchangers can be easily customized to fit specific customer requirements and are suitable for a variety of applications.

To change the tube-side velocity (tube-side liquid), simply adjust the number of multi-tube passes.

Working principleThe brazed shell-and-tube heat exchanger consists of either a fixed, brazed in place, or removable bundle. The bundle consists of copper tube sheets and either copper or 90/10 copper-nickel tubes. The design incorporates a secondary tubesheet behind the primary tubesheet to increase support at the header resulting in improved product life due to increased support. The housing materials are primarily copper with cast bronze ports at the shell side inlet/outlet.

The removable bundle is a formed cup tube sheet with an integrated o-ring groove, and is available with a one-cup and one-flange design. The o-ring allows for easy disassembly and enhanced sealing. The bundle is also available in a square core design for added flexibility and customization. The removable end caps and heat exchanger core allow the unit to be easily serviced in the field.
