Portraits: Artist and Instructor Slawa RadziszewskaUnlike the instantaneous en masse – made photographs, Slawa’s painted portraits not only capture the physical likeness of a person, but they also contain insights into the soul. Slawa is an established portrait artist and member of the American Society of Portrait Artists and the Portrait Society of America. She has produced more than 100 commissioned works in the past seven years. Slawa has taught portrait drawing and paintings for over 10 years. Some student work is included in this exhibit. Richey GalleryNature’s TransformersSpecial Juror’s ExhibitionNature’s Transformers features the artwork of juror Maureen Hearty who explores, via found and scrap metal, transformations that occur in the natural world. This exhibit embraces the processes of growth and decay that constitute a functioning biological system. As part of a world that depends on adaptations, we survive in accordance to the eco-system, and some of our tiniest earth companions can serve as a reminder of the essential balance we must maintain in our give-and-take natural habitat.June 5 – August 16Free Artist Reception: 5-7 p. m., June 5

LAKEWOOD HERITAGE CENTERRadius GalleryCollector’s CornerWhat do vinyl records, Rocky Mountain postcards and bakelite radios have in common? These, and many other commonplace or quirky things, are objects that people collect. Through this nostalgic display, the Lakewood Heritage Center has set out to discover not only what people accumulate but why they save. Visit to learn how you can begin a collection of your own.Through August 30

Spirit of Lakewood GalleryLakewood Heritage Center’s permanent gallery highlights significant local events of the past century, including May Bonfils Stanton’s beautiful Belmar mansion and surrounding farmland, some of which later became the Lakewood Heritage Center as well as the Villa Italia and Belmar shopping centers. Local artifacts immerse visitors in the 20th century when people drove Ford Model T cars, used switchboards to call friends and first watched television.Permanent Ongoing Installation

Lakewood’s popular Sounds Exciting! summer concert series returns to Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Amphitheater this June with six world-class shows! The amphitheater, celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2014, is set against the foothills and framed by some of the most spectacular sunsets in Colorado. Gates open at 6 p.m. with opening acts starting at 6:30 p.m. Headliners begin at 7:15 p.m.

INTERVIEW: Inside the world of Todo Mundo

BRAVO: Tell us about the name Todo Mundo.

Todo Mundo: It means the whole world, or “everybody together.” It promotes our message, which is that “we are all one.”

BRAVO: How would you describe the experience audiences have at your live performances?

Todo Mundo: From our perspective, the music we play is made to make people move, feel, smile, reflect and live in the present. Often times, we see that light in their eyes. We just want them to forget about everything, and that’s what we try to do with ourselves when we’re performing on stage-just be in the moment.

BRAVO: What is the biggest misperception that folks have about your music?

Todo Mundo: That we’re a Latin band, that we play Cumbia, and that we play Mexican music. While our bandleader, Santiago Orozco, is from Colombia and our music has Latin influences, we are not a Latin band. Our music is more of a fusion of rhythms and sounds from a variety of countries and cultures around the world.

BRAVO: What are you listening to on your iPod right now?

Todo Mundo: We all listen to a lot of different music, but at the moment we’re listening to Bruno Mars, Balkan Beat Box, Daft Punk, Imogen Heap, Sinkane, Quantic and Saravah Soul.

BRAVO: When you’re on the road, is there one thing in each community you put on the to do list?

Todo Mundo: Meet the locals, hang out with them, visit a cool place in the community and learn about their city and their lives.

BRAVO: What has been the most delightful experience you’ve had with a fan?

Todo Mundo: A couple years ago, an anonymous fan gave us $300 to start our new album. They left the money in a blue envelope in our merch box with a note that said “Start recording now!” That pushed us to start recording our album Conexion, which we released in October 2013. Overall, we really love when fans express to us the gratitude and happiness that they feel from listening to our music. It’s great to see how our music can change someone’s day in a positive way. It’s an indescribably beautiful feeling to feel their energy during our performance and after the show.

Don’t miss TODO MUNDO at Sounds Exciting! on July 16!

One hundred years ago, Interurban Car No. 25 shuttled passengers along the 13-mile Denver-Lakewood-Golden line known as the Denver and Intermountain (D&IM) line. This D&IM ran along much of the same route as the modern day RTD West Corridor light rail line, picking up passengers at over a dozen stops such as Golf Club, Devinny, Smith, Beehive, Wide Acres and Camp George West. Car 25 provided service for people from all walks of life including business commuters, students, shoppers, recreation seekers and even Gov. John C. Vivian, who rode the trolley to and from the state Capitol between 1943 and 1947. The service was clean and reliable with folks saying they could set their clock by the car’s travel through Lakewood. Car 25 could seat 52 passengers with standing room for 72. It was part of a series of cars with wooden bodies that were painted dark green and had rattan seats and motor controls at both the front and rear. Built locally by Denver’s Woeber Car and Carriage Company in 1911, Car 25 took its final run on the D&IM line on June 4, 1950.

Interurban Car No. 25 is listed on both the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties and the National Register of Historic Places and is important because it is the only known surviving example of a completely intact, standard gauge, electric interurban Woeber rail car of its type. It has been

exquisitely restored and is still capable of running today thanks to the efforts of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Foundation and Club and the 96 volunteers who worked on it over a 20 year period. Today, Car 25 is part of the City of Lakewood’s Heritage Center museum collection and is “rolled out” each summer to enable the community to appreciate its beauty and experience what it might have been like to ride 100 years ago.
