It is with great excitement that I return to my Brandt family from my amazing and memorable wedding in Puerto Rico. I missed my Brandt family very much and look forward to the exciting events and happenings we have in the upcoming months. This week we welcomed the Tools of the Mind team to observe our preschool classrooms. They were very impressed with the level of rigor within our preschool program. I was also beyond thrilled to dazzle our families this week as Pirate Rodriguez-Gomez because of our outstanding book fair sales. There are lots of treasures within our Brandt hallways that we will be working on and sharing as we get closer to our holiday season. It is with great excitement that I return to my Brandt family from my amazing

and memorable wedding in Puerto Rico. I missed my Brandt family very much

and look forward to the exciting events and happenings we have in the upcoming

months. This week we welcomed the Tools of the Mind team to observe our

preschool classrooms. They were very impressed with the level of rigor within

our preschool program. I was also beyond thrilled to dazzle our families this

week as Pirate Rodriguez-Gomez because of our outstanding book fair sales.

There are lots of treasures within our Brandt hallways that we will be working

on and sharing as we get closer to our holiday season.

We invite our families to look at our attendance policy to ensure

their children are receiving the best learning journey possible.

There is only one opportunity to receive a engaging and innova-

tive early childhood education that will shape our youngest

learners into the fine young leaders they will grow up to be. It

starts by being present in our Brandt seats.

Attendance Policy reminders

(For our full attendance policy please visit our website under:

Hoboken Public School District / Schools / Joseph F. Brandt Primary School / Brandt

Parent Resources )

After a child’s 10th unexcused consecutive absence they will be

dropped from our program.

An excused absence must be accompanied with a doctor’s note

within 48 hours of the doctor’s visit otherwise it is not valid. You

can bring it in or email to: [email protected]

or [email protected].

A child has to be fever free for 24 hours in order to come back

to school.

Tardiness

Pre K arrival after 8:45 am is considered late.

Kindergarten and 1st grade arrival after 8:15 is considered late.

If your child is tardy more than 5 times it is an automatic

absence.

From 8:16-9:00 am late passes are distributed in the lobby.

After 9:00 am all must obtain a pass from the main office.

What is chronic absence?

A child who has been ab-

sent 10 % of the school

year.

How can we prevent

chronic absence?

Getting rest.

Eating Healthy.

Providing doctor notes

within our 48 hr rule.

Planning trips, family

vacations according to

school breaks and cal-

endar.

OUR BRANDT MASCOT IS. . .

THE BEARS

In the next few weeks Ms. Forte, our Visual Arts

teacher, will be designing our Brandt Mascot.

We look forward to meeting him!

Theatre Train with Pre K

Mile Square and Hopes Pre K 4 classes are working

with Ms. Traina in developing frozen statues or

tableau based on When The Snowflakes Fall by

Tina Macnaughton and Claire Freedman. Students

portrayed penguins, snow leopards, and polar

bears by demonstrating asymmetrical shapes using

their bodies and performing synchronized move-

ment sequences to winter themed music.

Ready, Set, Spike!

In physical education class students

are practicing the sport of volleyball.

The skills that students are learning

are setting, bumping, and serving.

Students will exhibit collaborative,

communicative, and gross motor skills

while practicing with partners and in

small groups to master each skill set.

We will finalize our unit with a class

game that will exhibit their team-

work.

Inside Our Classrooms!

SQUARE 1 ART AT BRANDT

During the month of October, Pre-K, kindergarten and 1st grade artists

participated in the SQUARE 1 ART fundraiser in art class. Each artist cre-

ated a work of art that can be custom ordered onto a variety of keep-

sakes. Please be on the lookout for the S1A take-home packet with FREE

stickers and a catalog for ordering. SQUARE 1 ART is a great way to

share artwork with friends and family, especially during the holidays! All

orders must be in by Monday, November 28th for paper orders, and online

orders by Monday, December 5th.

Brandt Drivers

At Brandt we will

establish a com-

mon vision and

language in a com-

munity of schools.

At Brandt we will

refine progressive

early literacy

practices through

rigorous and de-

velopmentally ap-

propriate lessons

anchored in pow-

erful coaching.

At Brandt we will

develop resilience

in the youngest

learners through

the use of positive

praise and social

interactions be-

tween students

and teachers.

Mrs. Pecoraro's kindergarten science

class has been studying pushes and pulls

for Project Lead the Way. They used

the game Goldie Blox and The Spinning

Machine to demonstrate how pushes and

pulls work.

Ms. Brooke’s Mile Square class,

made a circumference chart to pre-

dict the circumference of a class

pumpkin. Great hypothesizing

friends!

teachers within the Hoboken School District. When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband

and our dog Charlie. We love taking advantage of the many tremendous areas and attractions that New Jer-

sey has to offer. A few of my favorite things to do are to go apple and pumpkin picking in the Fall, partici-

pate in yoga classes in the park during the spring, and spend summer days at the Jersey shore. I hope to

continue to be an influential educational leader, not only enriching the lives of students and families, but

also learning and growing from each child I work with.
