Rome’s best soldiers were defeated by rebellious British tribes

So What Happened to the Ninth Legion?

Did they march north only to be annihilated by hostile tribes?

There is little evidence that this was the case, apart from: The Ninth Legion’s name disappears from the

Roman military rolls The memorial to a soldier of the Ninth killed ‘in

a great battle’ though this could have been the earlier battle with Boudicca

The Roman Eagle found in Silchester Hampshire sometime after the disappearance of the Ninth Legion

1866 reverend J.G. Joyce found what he believed to be the lost battle standard of the Ninth Legion

But this was a case of misinterpretation The eagle was the inspiration for

Rosemary is what the movie is based on However the eagle was a civilian symbol,

most likely it stood upon a globe
