For the first time ever, we have put together a brochure combining the concerts presented by the School of Music’s pro series and the Brandon Chamber Players. We have also included other concert dates, like those of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and the annual Eckhardt-Gramatté (E-Gré) National Music Competition, to make sure you do not miss any of the great music. The School of Music’s Lorne Watson Recital Hall is home to most of this activity and you will also be able to hear national and international artists such as The Gryphon Trio, David Perry, and Fan Lei alongside Brandon-based artists and Brandon University faculty members like Catherine Wood, Leanne Zacharias and David Playfair. For a special, pre-Christmas treat, be sure to set aside December 20 to hear the new Ehnes Trio. And if you are looking to expand your musical horizons beyond the classics, do not miss the pro series’ season opening jazz program on September 14, the Brandon Chamber Players’ presentation of the Correction Line Ensemble on November 26, the School of Music’s New Music Series taking place between February 8 and 10, and the E-Gré Competition from April 29 to May 1, 2011. The Gryphon Trio returns to the pro series for a special concert in honour of Dr. Lorne Watson, who passed away on January 10, 2010. He was the director of the School of Music of Brandon University from 1948 to 1981, and was instrumental in the advancement of music education in Manitoba.
