Public Health Solutions’ (PHS) graphic identity is based on a simple set of graphic elements: the logo, the core colors, and typefaces. The specifications outlined in this manual apply to all PHS communications and materials, print, and electronic. It is necessary to follow these standards to ensure consistency and visual strength for the Public Health Solutions identity.

These standards also apply to the use of the PHS graphic identity by programs of PHS and by partner organizations. For questions related to the application of these standards, contact [email protected].

The PHS logo (hereafter referred to as “logo”) shown at right is comprised of two distinct elements designed to function together in print and electronic media providing a strong brand identity for PHS.

The elements are:

• The Mark - a series of windows in PHS green and blue

• The Name - “Public Health Solutions” black and boldThe Mark is an arrangement of overlapping rectangles in various sizes evoking equal signs in solid blue and green with tints as indicated.

Minimum Size

Do not apply logo in a size smaller than the minimum size shown to the right, which is equivalent to the size used on PHS business cards.

Clear Space

The distance between the logo and other objects including text is known as “clear space.” In application, there should always be a clear space surrounding the PHS logo. The clear space or distance marked as is equal to the height of the capital letters within the name, specifically from the top of the capital “P” in Public to its baseline. Ideally this area should be kept free of typography, photography, illustrations and any other graphic elements.

Exceptions to this standard are:

• when intentionally positioning the logo near the trim of a piece for aesthetic purposes or where available space is limited

• if the logo is overprinting or knocking-out of a background image (i.e., a design with very faint imagery or an underlying photograph with ample open areas)

Black & White Application

When an application only allows for a black and white reproduction of the logo, the two ways the logo can be reproduced are shown in the examples to the right.

• Example 1 shows the Mark in a grayscale

• Example 2 shows the Mark in solid black and white

LOGO APPLICATION

One-Line Name Identification

When space is not available to properly size and apply the PHS logo, it is permissible to identify the organization by using the name only in the format to the right.

Colored Background Application

When there is a colored background, use a solid-colored logo that creates the highest contrast with the background.

• Example 3 shows a solid black logo on a light-colored background

• Example 4 shows a solid white logo on a dark-colored background

Altering the logo without permission or approved consultation will incorrectly represent the organization. Follow these suggestions to ensure proper usage of the logo.

• Do not reconfigure the elements of the logo

• Do not change the colors of the elements within the logo; only use the approved three-color treatment, grayscale, solid black, or solid white versions.

• Do not alter the typography of the name element

• Do not combine the PHS logo with another logo

• When resizing, do not stretch the logo. To help maintain its proper proportions, hold Shift before clicking and dragging to resize.

4-COLOR EQUIVALENT WEB/RGB EQUIVALENTCOLOR SPECIFICATIONSThe Pantone Matching System (PMS) is an international color swatch numbering system used as the standard method for the selection, specification, and matching of colors.

The logo is based on three core colors: two spot colors and black simulated here. These colors will be referred to as PHS core blue, core green, and black. An accent color palate is specified to provide variety within communication materials and, when used consistently, enhance the overall branding of PHS.

When creating documents for print, be sure the color setup is in 4-color (CMYK).

TYPOGRAPHYFor Designed Materials

The Univers Condensed font family has been chosen for use in the PHS graphic standards to complement the graphic identity. There are many variations of the font (italic, regular, bold, etc.) which can offer both consistency and variety in application.

Univers Condensed will be the typeface choice for designed materials such as official reports, flyers, brochures, and other outreach materials.

Calibri is used in the absence of Univers in office documents. This font is more widely accessible and can be used in documents such as Microsoft Word documents and PowerPoint presentations.

Note: electronic communications should use Web compatible fonts that work best across all browsers.

IMAGESImages can help break up large bodies of text, making a document much more manageable to read. Images can also assist in communicating the story and impact of the text.

There are two common types of visuals that PHS uses: stock images and infographics.

PHS BRANDPHS employs the following brand standards when creating collateral materials, which include but are not limited to event flyers, general service information flyers, factsheets, one-pagers, brochures, and other outreach materials.

Most materials contain four main components: the standard header, image set, full-width color banner, and standard footer.

• Standard header: includes the PHS logo, which is at the top left hand corner. The logo is followed by an image set that includes three square photos related to the material content. This image set may contain two images and an accent colored square when a third image is not available or necessary.

• Full-width colored banner: includes a background block of color accurate to a series of materials, or a program’s color scheme. This is set under the PHS logo and image set. This will house the title and subtitle of material set to the PHS style guide.

• Content: includes material information and/or details

• Footer: includes PHS website, secondary logos, and contact information when necessary

POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONSThere are two approved PHS PowerPoint templates available for use by all employees: letter, and wide. The PowerPoint templates’ default font is Calibri.

Both templates follow the same style guides for text:

• Typeface: Calibri (Body)
