Cycling is a blend of Passion, Emotion, and Technology, from climbing the highest alpine routes, to carving singletrack, to the daily commute. At Cole, this is what we are about.

The wheel is the heart and soul of the bicycle, and since 2001 Cole has been dedicated to creating the finest hand-built wheels available. Developed, tested, and used by in the most demanding conditions to bring you pure cycling emotion and performance.

Professional Racing

Since its conception, Cole has been an active sponsor of the world’s top rac-

ers. Now it can boast some of cycling’s biggest events among its wins. We

work closely with the world’s best riders to ensure consistent performance.

The goal at Cole is to make nothing but the best wheels.

03 04

Creating a superior wheel is no easy job. The wheel is arguably the most complicated part of the bicycle. Each individual

component – hub, rim, spoke – must already be to the highest standard. From there, the engineering of the complete

wheel can begin.

Our goal is to achieve a balance of strength and weight, and to do it better than anything else available. Dynamic Spoke

Alignment, a technology developed by Cole, provides a high tension wheel. The right materials and components are essen-

tial for a Cole wheel to provide durability under this high tension. Swiss-made, cold-drawn butted spokes; high modulus

compressed carbon fiber; cold-forged and precision machined hubs. These components are assembled to build a Cole

wheel by hand, one at a time.

Cole Wheels feature proprietary and patented technology, the result of years of development and testing. Now raced in

the UCI ProTour, Cole offers some of the highest technology available in a bicycle wheel.

Research and Development

05 06

Spoke Tension

Cole’s patented DSA hub allows for a higher spoke ten-sion. This translates to better power transfer, as less en-ergy is lost in the flex of spokes. More rigid wheels offer crisper acceleration and improved tracking through cor-ners.

Durability DSA’s cylindrical nipples distribute the spoke tension and road vibration into a larger area of the reinforced hub flange, resulting in a longer hub life. Straight-pull, butted spokes eliminate the stress and breakage of traditional j-bend spokes.

Perfect alignment

Cylindrical nipples allow for perfect alignment of the spoke, making for easier assembly and maintenance, and allowing for the high-tension spoke lacing that results in a superior wheel.

07 08

TECHNOLOGY

DSA – Dynamic Spoke AlignmentCole’s patented DSA system uses a double-threaded spoke and proprietary cylindrical nipple for increased spoke tension, wheel stiffness, and durability.

Fat Head DSA – a simplified straight-pull version of DSA, Fat Head spokes align freely with 5 degrees of adjustment to allow a wider, stronger rim and lacing pattern. Perfect for DH, freeride, and all-mountain.

DS – Cole Dual-Spoke hub flange allows radial, 1-cross, or 2-cross lacing, without any contact between the spokes themselves. This minimizes and stress areas for the spoke to break.

SS – Single-Spoke hub flange design allows for radial or 1-cross lacing, re-ducing spoke count and wheel weight over DS hubs.

Cole Carbon – Cole high modulus carbon rims are made using a unique organic Carbon Weave process for incredible multi-directional strength.

EZ Snap – The tool-free EZ Snap system allows multiple MTB axle systems with the same front hub. Simply change the end cap to go from 20mm or 15mm thru-axle to standard 5 mm, 10 mm or 15mm quick-release.

Torque Nipples – Alloy Torque Nipples from Atomlab are lighter and stronger than standard brass nipples. Designed to work with DSA Fat Head spokes.

Built slowly by hand, one at a time.

Johnny HoogerlandBetween Tension and confirmation

Most of the pro riders spend a lot of time on their material, since

the riders make a lot of efforts for their cycling career it is a logi-

cal thing that the material has to be perfect too. When I signed

with the new pro team of Vacansoleil I wandered about the ma-

terial we were going to use in the upcoming season. The answer:

the frames come from Batavus and the wheels from Cole. The

brand Batavus rang a bell for me, Cole didn’t, which I don’t get

after my experiences so far.

To get more information on Cole I did some research and asked

my good friend Reinier Honig. I know him since I was 14 and he

had experience with the wheels. He really was content with the

aerdynamics and rotating qualities of the wheels. This message

conformed me and I started the winter training with a lot of

“moral”.

After a good preparation the season started by the in France end

of January with the GP Marseillaise and the Etoile de Besseges.

With a lot of training and “moral” I started in this race looking

for confirmation on my shape and material. I had a good feeling

in training but I was curious about the racing experience and it

was incredible! My shape and material were great. It give me a

lot of confidence and I had a superb sprint. Several top-5 clas-

sifications, two victories, 12th in Tour of Flanders and 8th in the

Eschborn-Frankfurt City Loop. An amazing spring and kick-off in

my first season. I pursued a pro cycling career for years and this

start gives me a great feeling.

The Cole wheels underneath me give me a secure feeling in the

spring classics. Rotation and aerdodunamics are great but also

the looks were pretty hot – the looks are not to be underestimat-

ed for a cyclings. Wheels make the difference on a bike. I don’t

know whether it was the results of the Vacansoleil-team, the ag-

gressive racing style or the good looking wheels but a lot of rid-

ers started to show interest in our wheels. As soon as the pace

drops in a hard cycling race riders start to chat on several things,

often this concerns the material or shape. When riders pop the

question how are wheels are doing? I can – like Reinier did with

me – only give one answer: Superb!!

tervoorbereiding in.

was ongelofelijk!

maakte. Meerdere top-5 klasseringen, twee overwinningen, 12e

bevallen jullie wielen eigenlijk?

David De la FuenteIn the House of the Champion

Winning is always a pleasure but to win in a race named after

one of your idols is even more gratifying. That’s what happened

to me on April 4, 2009, a date that’ll be hard to forget because on

that day, I lived a dream: winning the Miguel Indurain Grand Prix.

At the start I was confident because I knew I was in good shape

but I didn’t seriously think about winning with the likes of Ale-

jandro Valverde, Roman Dreuziger, Carlos Sastre and the brothers

Schleck lined up at the starting line beside me. The week before

I won second place in the Llodio Grand Prix, a demanding clas-

sic race in which I’d broken away in the final stretch together

with Mosquera and Samuel Sanchez. I was riding very strong but

started my sprint prematurely and the Olympic champion, as you

know, forgives nothing. Second place was important but the way

it came about left a bad taste in my mouth. I needed another go.

The Indurain Grand Prix was a punishing circuit through the Na-

varran homeland of the great champion. This year three climbs

to El Puy were included rendering the circuit even more difficult;

an extremely steep, single-kilometer slope that finished the race

and on whose upgrades one really suffers. My name appeared

among the favorites but most of the votes were going to the

home team, to the continuation of Indurain’s Banesto team, to

the Caisse d’Espargne and it’s leader, Alejandro Valverde. It was

they who controlled the race from start to finish, who blocked all

the breakaway attempts right up to the last curve accessing the

final and definitive ascent to Puy. I positioned myself well in the

turn, somethng of extreme importance to the final run when--

Oh no!The television motorcycle goes down and blocks a good

portion of the narrow roadway. Fortunately I’m able to dodge

the motorcycle. Only 300 meters to go and no time to regulate

the forces. It’s time to go for the lead. Kolobnev and Wegman are

right behind me but I don’t think about it. I press my Cole T50

wheels for everything they’ve got and they respond to perfec-

tion. The others can’t touch me. I raise my arms and celebrate

with the public my reaching the top. I’ve done it. I’ve won on the

home turf of the champion. The Great Miquel awaits me on the

winners stand. A dream come true.

¡Oh no!,

Me

Lo he conseguido.

The BRUNI CLANEverything started for me when I first rode on a two-wheeled

vehicle. Taking hold of my moped’s handlebar, I still didn’t have

any ideas that the speed’s sensation was about to completely

intoxicate me. Self-taught, I taught myself to pilot and to fix my

moped. Thus started my long course, all my passion that led me

from the motorcycle to the bicycle. And from me to my son.

From 1987 to 1991, I was an enduro motorcycle rider and I must

admit that I loved that; I had a fire burning inside that I enjoyed

before finally giving myself to the bicycle. I practiced all disci-

plines of this sport – road, xc, and downhill.I spent all my energy

in a way that I loved and invested myself completely in this new

discipline that I particularly liked. In addition to allowing me

to go downhill at full speed, it led me to the most spectacular

mountain tops. In love with nature, the bicycle has this capacity

to make us move to discover new spots always more and more

fantastic.

In 1993, I left my motorcycle helmet for good for my new moun-

tain bike helmet, my passport for great adventures! From 1996

to 1999, I rode as a professional against the best and most prom-

ising newcomers. I won many times the French Championship

(including 2009) and I also won three times the Trans’, a big re-

ward for a big effort! Then I took off to Canada and not without

some trouble I took first place at the World Master’s Champion-

ship, in 1999. Then I did it again on 2000, 2002, 2003 and even

2008. This also succeeds in closing some mouths, including mine,

which usually say that after all those years, we are just good for

retirement. But finally, when I look at my son, I think to myself that

things are in safe hands.

This little piece of man arrived in 1994 and grew up within a biker

environment. Rolling around from race to race, his eyes have al-

ready spied everything. But I don’t rush him, on the contrary I

push him to try different sports for him to find what he likes the

most. Inevitably, he comes back to the bicycle and tries it in all

the different possible ways: 4-cross, slalom, and of course DH.

He is not like me, I surely give him some piece of advice but he

analyzes the situation more than me, he likes the technique and

I love to see him riding, even if I never tell him. He impresses me.

Two consecutive years he wins the French Championship in the

minor category. This year he finished in the seventh place at Or-

res and wins in the junior category at the Megavalanche, in

only his first time! He rides slowly into my wake within a lot

of very promising young riders. I rarely bet on the future

but believe me when I say that things are in safe hands.
