With a theme on ‘shaping an industry-led water strategy to drive Australia’s prosperity’, the focus was to ensure that AWA’s direction was aligned with current and future players in the Water Industry. See later in this Newsletter for additional details. The Summit was also available via a weblink and it was great to hear WA based delegates participating in the discussion. One aspect of the recent AWA restructure will mean that participation via weblinks and video access post events will increase in frequency. Utilising technology to encourage wider participation in AWA events increases the breadth of our influence. We have recently completed National Water Week (NWW). The premier event in WA was our half day conference along the NWW theme of “Water Sources – there are more sources than you think”. Each of the speakers provided catalyst for interesting discussion that was heartily appreciated by both the delegates and the sponsor, Fusion. Preparations are now well advanced for the next ‘big ticket’ item on our Branch calendar – the AWA WA Water Awards Gala Dinner. This is the jewel in the WA Branch crown and, if previous years are any indication, it will be a fun-filled night, celebrating a host of great work that is done within the water sector in WA. The judges have done a wonderful job assessing the array of varied and competitive nominations. Several of the WA Branch Award recipients go on to represent the State at the National Level. The Undergraduate Water Prize winner can even end up further afield representing Australia in an international forum. The Gala Dinner is a valuable opportunity for networking with your fellow ‘water’ colleagues and peers. An opportunity like this would be difficult to find anywhere else.
