FAQsWhen is the program?

June 13 – August 8

Who can participate? Everyone! The program is open to children, teens and adults.

What do I need to do?

l Sign up online at durhamcountylibrary.org/summerreading or at any Durham County Library location.

l Earn Summer Reading points by recording the number of minutes you read between June 13 and August 8. Record minutes online by logging in to your Summer Reading account or bring a record of your reading to your local library. Each minute read is worth one Summer Reading point. You can also earn points for activities such as attending programs and writing book reviews.

l Redeem your points for prizes at any Durham County Library location. Points can be redeemed any time between June 13 and August 8. Prizes will be worth different numbers of points, so visit the library to see what prizes are available (and how much reading you will need to do!).

You can redeem up to 1000 points over the course of the program.

l Earn 600 points to be eligible for the grand prize drawings at the end of the summer

MUSIC AND ART SUPER HEROES: SUMMER CAMP

Monday - Friday, Jul. 6 - 17, 2 - 3:15 p.m.Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St.Explore art and music with instructors from

North Carolina Central University. Learn to use your superhero artistic powers to create beautiful works of art under guided

instruction. Explore musical instruments and how they are used by the superheroes of jazz and other forms of music. Each week will culminate with a superhero experience for the whole family!

Enjoy a special performance by nationally renowned local jazz superhero Stanley Baird on Friday, July 17 from 2 - 4 p.m. on the Main Library lawn.

Recommended for grades 3-6. Registration is required and begins online May 15!

Leap into Summer Reading FunUNCLE TY-RONE: THE KID'S COMEDIANUncle Ty-Rone brings his team of puppets, better known as his cronies, to the stage with music and comedy. He uses the art of ventriloquism to convey his message that, “When you read you can succeed and achieve your goals in life. RAGS TO RICHES PRESENTS “JACK TALES”Join Rags to Riches for a new play by Lou Peters, Artistic Director. Paying homage to the Appalachian tradition from which these tales have sprung, Viola Buxom and Sye Buckwagon try to best each other’s Jack Tale. “Jack and the Bean Tree” is interwoven with “Jack and the Melon Patch” and “Bean Tree with a Beard.” The original music, played and sung by Peters and fellow member Kelly Summers, is sure to bring ol’ Jack to life.
