Summer Reading Program

FAQsWhen is the program? Jun. 11 – Aug. 6

Who can participate? Everyone! The program is open to children, teens and adults.

What do I need to do?l Sign up online at

durhamcountylibrary.org/summerreading or at any Durham County Library location.

l Earn Summer Reading points by recording the number of minutes you read between Jun. 11 and Aug. 6. Record minutes online by logging in to your Summer Reading account or bring a record of your reading to your local library. Each minute read is worth one Summer Reading point. You can also earn points for activities such as attending programs and writing book reviews.

l Redeem your points for prizes at any Durham County Library location. Points can be redeemed any time between Jun. 11 and Aug. 6. Prizes are worth different numbers of points, so visit the library to see what prizes are available (and how much reading you need to do!). You can redeem up to 1000 points over the course of the program.

l Earn 600 points to receive a free book (children and teens) and to be eligible for the grand prize drawings at the end of the summer!

RAISE YOUR VOICEThursdays, Jun. 16 - Aug. 116 - 7 p.m. Raise Your VOICE is a poetry and spoken word workshop for teens, tweens and young adults. Join us as we welcome professionals in the community to teach us how to write and perform original works. The program will feature performances from members of local slam teams as well as poetry organizations. We will publish an anthology of the poems and will perform them at the end of the program! 

MAKE N TAKE WITH THE SCRAP EXCHANGESaturday, Jun. 181 - 3 p.m. Make N Take is an eco-friendly, creative arts activity for people of all ages! Teens will be able to create using Scrap Exchange’s fascinating collection of materials: fabric, cardboard tubes, floppy disks and other clean industrial discards.
