The word of the Month is CHRISTIAN—and the new command (which is really an old word) describes the one thing we are all to do. Love one another! As we live life sheltering at home, hiding from the forces of the ongoing pandemic I am reminded every day how much every one of us needs to know and feel the love of others and how much everyone of us can do to love others. For example—one group I know of created a cookie chain.Everyone in the group made two dozen of their favorite cookies. Delivered 1 dozen to either the police department or fire department—and delivered the other dozen to a randomly drawn member of the group! They were sharing their love—both with the world and with one another! I have been hearing and have made wellchecks on others. Why is this important? Its important because how we love one another tells the world that we are followers of Jesus! How does the world see you? Are you loving or complaining? Are giving or hoarding? Are you hopeful or preaching doom and gloom? Our lives as followers of Jesus should be pointing to the good, the hopeful, the encouraging, the generous. That is the way of love. Steve Jobs said: the juice goes out of Christianity when it becomes too based on faith rather than living like Jesus or seeing the world as Jesus saw it. Why? Pastoral Ponderings….

A new command I give you: Love one another!

John 13:34

A new word—that not really a new word. The word of the Month is CHRISTIAN—and the new command (which is really an old word) describes the one thing we are all to do. Love one another!

As we live life sheltering at home, hiding from the forces of the ongoing

pandemic I am reminded every day how much every one of us needs to know and feel the love of others and how much everyone of us can do to love others. For example—one group I know of created a “cookie chain.” Everyone in the group made two dozen of their favorite cookies. Delivered 1 dozen to either the police department or fire department—and delivered the other dozen to a

randomly drawn member of the group! They were sharing their love—both with the world and with one another! I have been hearing and have made “well” checks on others. Why is this important? It’s important because how we love one another tells the world that we are followers of Jesus!

How does the world see you? Are you loving or complaining? Are giving or hoarding? Are you hopeful or preaching doom and gloom? Our lives as

followers of Jesus should be pointing to the good, the hopeful, the encouraging, the generous. That is the way of love.

Steve Jobs said: “the juice goes out of Christianity when it becomes too based on faith rather than living like Jesus or seeing the world as Jesus saw it.” Why? Because when it becomes more than living and loving like Jesus—we have lost the point! Let’s live like Jesus—let’s love like Jesus.

See you Sunday—Pastor David

School Aged Children’s Ministry Update

Happy May Day Everyone!!

I hope your April went well. They say April showers bring May flowers. Well, they also bring rainbows. The last week of April saw all of the Montessori at Home students explore different ways to make rainbows and they were awesome! So bright and beautiful!

That month also saw us learning about different ways to communicate. We wrote letters, learned sign language, Morse code and Braille. At the end we took all the different ways to make our name and turned it into a one of a kind collage. They are all so creative and lovely!

This month is our Transportation month and we are all a little sad. All those toilet paper and paper towel rolls you have so generously been saving for us to make airplanes with are sitting at school having to wait till next year to be turned into a plane. But when God closes a door, he opens a window and in this case 20 windows. Usually the children only get to pick five friends to be on their plane but because we had to come up with something different, we made a fleet of planes with enough windows so everyone in class can be on their planes!

Our last day of school will be May 21st. The children will still get to make their personal graduation hat necklace and receive a diploma for all their hard work. We just won't be able to have the very talented and heartwarming graduation ceremony that we usually do. We are hoping that when things settle down that we can still do Play Date at Mrs. Agoff’s house and our annual meet and greet this summer for new and returning students.

Now, on a serious note. I want to share with you what I told all my parents. When we are able to go and visit as we used to, we need to remember that it will be like the first month of school. We will be exposed to a lot of other people’s germs and they are not bad germs, they are just not our germs. As we find in that first month of school, we all seem to catch some cold or bug. It is important to keep washing our hands, not putting our fingers in our mouth or nose and then touching people or items that they might pick up. You know who you are! Stop! Keep your vitamins and herbs going so that your immune system is strong and can fight those new visiting germs quickly. Germs are a part of life. It is up to us to do what we can so that they do not rule our life.

I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all you amazing women out there! I have watched you with your children and grandchildren and I just want to say I love You! Thank you for loving us!

Have a fun May and try to find time to get out and smell those flowers. As long as they don't make you sneeze! :) Thank you, Mrs. Agoff

As many of you know, the Children’s ministry has been meeting weekly on Zoom - Sundays at 11am. This has been a big success. Each week we have had between 9 -14 kid participants as well as many faithful members that join each week. Moving our Children’s ministry online has not been without challenges. It is hard enough to engage a group of kids of varying ages in person and this challenge is magnified when we are meeting virtually.

To run this program, a group of faithful leaders are spending significantly more time and resources than previous. Many hours go into each lesson and we have also been mailing supplemental material to the kids each week. A Huge Thank you to Kathy Helms who is a tremendous help with finding and mailing the supplemental material. A Huge Thank you to Catie Welch who has repeatedly taken time from her own school and work to be my technical advisor as I keep learning technology and adapting the program trying to increase its reach and effectiveness.

I think it is notable that we are seeing great attendance. More than half of the regular participants are not current members of our church. Some are local and do not have a church and some have a church that is not doing any type of Children’s ministry program. It is fun for me to see the kids each week and I think it is fun for them to see each other.

Ways you can help:

1. Pray for this ministry. Pray for its reach and success. Pray for ways for us to keep the kids engaged.

2. Jump on Zoom on a Sunday. Keep your camera on so kids can see you! 3. I send prayer requests lifted by our kids each week. Please incorporate these into your

personal prayer time. 4. Keep giving to the extent you can the Church. Our expenses have not decreased but

have actually increased as we have needed to invest in new technology to move to a remote delivery system.

Each week the kids are invited to send back their completed artwork. Our photo this month is from an especially talented artist Nic. He is 11 years old and lives in Spokane Washington.

A WORD ABOUT GIVING

Friends, during times like this everyone it seems suffers financially and in other ways. The church is no different. Churches often times suffer when attendance is kept away or lower than normal. There are many who give when they are in church but when they are not physically in the building they don’t give. Right now very few are actually in the building now. We want to remind you to mail your check in with the included envelope or make your donation via the web page giving portal: https://fcc-jc.com/donate Thank you ever so much for your faithfulness!
